This EOS R5 MkII has several significant upgrades from the original (which I still have and use). The autofocus tech is substantially better. I shoot a lot of sports, birds, and wildlife. Once the autofocus locks on, it rarely looses the subject, whereas with my original R5, the lock would drop if the subject moved behind a branch or if another person got between an athlete and my subject. The Mkii stays on the selected subject much more consistently. The high-speed top end for burst is a double-edge sword...yes, you can almost be certain of capturing a moment of fast action. But using the full 30 fps along with 1/2 second pre-shoot selected is too much for all but the most intense circumstances (15 frames for the preshoot and 30 frames for every additional second). I will absolutely use it for photographing birds diving for fish and other once-in-a-while super action events, but I will likely stay away from it otherwise. It's super cool to have as an option though.
Along with the various burst modes, they have also included a menu to allow you to limit the number of frames in a burst; that's something I've mentioned to about a dozen Canon reps over the time I've been shooting with my original R5 and I'm really happy they've made that option available.
I wish they would have included a GPS in-body. I do a lot of hiking and like to know specifically where on various trails I've taken my photos. But I do have and use the external GPS and it works fine although it's cumbersome.
All in all, it's a great camera and I'm super happy to have it as my primary shooting camera.
A True Game-Changer for Professionals and Creators

The Canon R5 Mark II has completely redefined my photography experience! The autofocus is lightning-fast and incredibly accurate — it locks on subjects even in low light. The dynamic range and image clarity are simply next-level, and the 8K video quality is breathtaking. I love how Canon improved heat management and added smoother handling compared to the original R5. It’s the perfect hybrid camera for both photography and videography. If you want top-tier performance, reliability, and color science — this is the one. Highly recommend it!

Upgraded from the R100 (as a starter for mirrorless) and the R5 Mark ii is just in a league entirely of its own. The versatility of this camera and every lens I have collected just continues to impress me. The touch screen and flexible shooting makes any shoot possible, you can zoom in and delete or flag photos. Shooting in Raw allows correction of any post shoot edits. Just very excited to continue to explore this camera

This is the camera I've been waiting for. Canon has knocked it out of the park with this upgrade to the vaunted R5. The new auto-focus is amazing, and the stacked sensor makes for great action shots. No doubt it will only improve as firmware updates are released.

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II is a professional-grade mirrorless camera designed for both photographers and videographers who demand exceptional performance. Featuring an advanced full-frame sensor, it supports stunning 8K video recording as well as outstanding still image quality, making it one of the most powerful hybrid cameras on the market. Its high-resolution output, improved autofocus system, and fast shooting speeds make it particularly appealing for wedding photographers, wildlife enthusiasts, and content creators who need both precision and flexibility.
The camera body alone is priced at $3,899.99, reflecting its professional positioning, though it’s currently discounted from its $4,299.99 list price. Reviews rate it at 4.6 out of 5 stars, suggesting strong satisfaction among users, especially in areas like sharpness, color reproduction, and low-light performance. The robust build and weather-sealing also make it suitable for demanding environments.
However, there are a few considerations. At this price, it’s a serious investment that may not suit casual users. Additionally, handling 8K video requires powerful storage and editing systems, which can add to the overall cost. Some users may also find the body-only purchase limiting, as high-quality RF lenses are needed to unlock its full potential.
Overall, the Canon EOS R5 Mark II is an excellent choice for professionals or advanced enthusiasts who need top-tier photo and video capabilities in a single system. It’s a future-ready camera built to deliver exceptional results, but it comes at a premium price with added costs for accessories and supporting gear.

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II is a remarkable upgrade to its predecessor, offering a blend of high-resolution imaging and advanced video capabilities that cater to both photographers and videographers. The 45-megapixel full-frame sensor delivers stunning detail, while the improved autofocus system, featuring enhanced AI-driven subject tracking, ensures sharpness even in challenging conditions. For video creators, the 8K recording at 60fps and 4K at 120fps provide exceptional quality and flexibility. The camera's build quality is robust, with weather sealing that makes it reliable for various shooting environments. Additionally, the in-body image stabilization is highly effective, enabling handheld shooting in low-light situations. The R5 Mark II's interface is intuitive, and the EVF is crisp and responsive. However, the camera does come at a premium price, and some users may find the high-resolution files demanding on storage and processing power. Overall, the Canon EOS R5 Mark II is an excellent choice for professionals seeking top-tier performance in both stills and video.

The EOS R5 Mark II is arguably today’s ultimate hybrid camera. It outpaces its predecessor and rivals on performance, image quality, autofocus, video, usability, and even introduces game-changing features like Eye‑Control AF and in-camera upscaling. While it commands a premium price and slightly dips in battery stamina, I believe this camera is the best full-frame mirrorless I ever owned.

The Canon R5 Mark II is incredible. It's genuinely a quality camera, I love it a lot. For me, it's been a steep learning curve, but after a couple of weeks of reading the manuals and books on the R5 II, I can see daylight. The photos are truly of gallery quality. Team this up with Canon's high-quality lens, and it's hard to beat. 45MP and 8K video, this is like driving a race car.

Coming from a 5d Mark 4 this is really amazing. The autofocus alone is worth the asking price. Mainly used for photo. I noticed it does breathe new life into my older EF lenses and the images are sharp more times than not. Build quality feels pretty good. Not as good as the 5d Mark 4 or even the R3 but it should hold up well. I have normal sized hands and this does feel a tiny bit small in them which may be an issue on long wedding days but there are 3 different grips you could add onto this camera. Overall it was time for me to go mirrorless but still miss the amazing ergonomics of the Mark4.

The M2 is a slight upgrade to the M1. I shoot wildlife, so the biggest improvement is that the stacked sensor allows for faster focusing of moving objects, though high ISO performance may be a bit worse that the M1. The GPS pairing via Canon Camera Connect app still doesn't work well for me; my 10-year old 7D M2 still captures GPS data without an app, so this is the biggest disappointment. Overall I'm pretty happy with the upgrade: I seem to be able to get more keepers shooting animals from flying birds to tiny insects.
