I was relieved that my external hard drive could be recovered. It is a bummer to have to pay such a high fee and to wait (around 2 weeks) but it is better than getting nothing!!

The local BestBuy wasn't able to recover any data from my crashed hard drive so they recommended I ship it into the main facility. I was informed they were able to recover data with corruption levels being in a range of "little to none" and "Slight". Not really sure if that means every file has "little to none" or "slight" corruption or just specific individual files. For the recovery of 53.2 G of corrupted data they want $550 for labor + media + tax. I think I will pass not knowing what I'm really going to end up with.

I had a very old computer that simply was done. Originally took it somewhere else where it sat for 3 weeks with nothing done. Brought it to Geek Squad by appointment and was so impressed with the time and effort it took to recall as much of my old data as was possible. Will not ever go somewhere else again.

My old Mac's HD was dying so I took the whole 27" unit to Geek Squad. In two days they backed up all my data, including WinXP data from a partitioned VMware drive, onto a separately purchased 2TB Seagate external HD. I spent a C-note (look it up) and feel it was worth every penny. They preserved the confidentiality of my data, were amazingly thorough, and made subsequent restoration of data onto my new PC's internal HD awesomely EZ. The Geek Squad gifted me peace-of-mind at a very reasonable price. Thanks, GS !!

The Geek Squad associates listened to the details, attempted to access my hard drive in the store (unsuccessful). They then fully explained the next steps in the data recovery process and estimated costs, which would only be incurred upon my approval. They were very understanding and patient and suggested if I had any questions and/or concerns, to call them immediately. Great Customer Service!

Help desk did their best and explained needed to send out. Appears they do not do opening of USB's there but send out the external hard drives to another Best Buy location. Waiting on final of this since have seen Level3 recovery report and waiting on final product which will use new external that went to shop.

Data Retrieval and Hard Drive Replacement

Initially, I brought my laptop to BB because my hard drive died. I wanted it replaced -- as it was still under the year warranty.
Turns out, my data had to be retrieved at a significant price. And, then - when I heard from Best Buy that my laptop was ready for me to pick up...I go to the store, only to find out that the hard drive had NOT been replaced.. So...off it went ...back to the shop -- out in Tennessee or somewhere. DAH! THe process was not handle well at all. It is taking a LONG time to get my laptop back. I'm expecting it sometime next week.... but as I've lost faith in Best Buy... who knows when I'll actually get it back.

The hard drive in my 7 yr old desk top crashed. Brought it my local store, they were unable to do anything with it, even diagnose it other than to say it crashed. So they had to send the hard drive to a Service Center 1,000 miles away, charge me $35 to ship the hard drive because they could not do it locally. Then want to charge me $1,250 to recover the data. Way too expensive.
