This is my fourth Roomba. The others didn’t work so well out of the box and lasted less than 2 years before we gave up on them. This model worked beautifully and my floors have never been cleaner.

Best Mopping Robot I've Used, Not Without Flaws

There is a lot to like in this floor cleaner and a couple things to fault with it. This is not the first vacuum, nor the first mop I've tried. I will say it's the best mopping robot I have tried in terms of ease of use, operation, and functionality. Pros: 1. Self-cleaning with water tanks for clean and dirty water. Fill up the clean, empty the dirty, and you're not limited to a small tank on the mop you have to keep messing with. Great feature. 2. The vacuuming portion uses rubber rollers so it does a good job of picking up larger pieces of debris instead of just pushing it around. 3. The mopping portion has rotating pads that do a good job of "mopping" and get pretty close to the corners. Not a lot of untouchable spaces. 4. The intelligent mapping feature is high impressive. You set it on a mapping run and you can watch it as it builds the map. Afterward, you can modify the rooms to your liking to keep it within bounds without using any other hardware. I tested it and it is highly accurate. 5. It doesn't mindlessly wander within the room to clean, it approaches it methodically. You can watch the path it takes and see how efficient it is. 6. If you add something to the room, it is smart enough to map around it, but not modify the map permanently. If you move that item, it'll clean the space without remapping. Cons: 1. It's big so you have to have the right location to store the dock. It's not just going to tuck under a counter or hide in the corner. You'll know it's there. 2. It's loud. When it self cleans, it's noisy. When it's running, it's noisy. I don't think it's a flaw, I think that's the nature of the cleaning power. 3. You have to use a different app than you already have for other iRobot vacuums/devices. I don't understand this at all. I set it up in our kitchen with hardwood floors. It's not huge, but a decent size with a table and chairs, an island, and a trash can for the primary furniture. Unpacking, assembling, and installing it was a breeze. I ran into no issues as it comes 99% assembled. Just snap the cleaning brushes on, the ramp to the base, and the power cord to the base. As I mention in the cons, I had to download a different app to control it and then I couldn't add my other iRobot devices to the new app. Meaning, I now have 2 apps for one brand which I find incredibly odd. The robot is chatty. It tells you exactly what to do or what it is doing. Luckily, there's a volume control in the app so I set it to a lower volume. It is nice to hear what is wrong, or progress, etc but for regular use I don't need the prompts to be loud. The first thing it wanted to do was map the kitchen. I put all the chairs up, moved the trash can, and let it map. I followed along in the app out of curiosity. It mapped it quickly and accurately. We have a single step down into the next room and it tried to make part of that room into the kitchen, but the app let me edit the room and just reset that area as another room. After mapping it was ready to use. I ran it without sweeping or mopping before hand. It did a good job of vacuuming up bread crumbs and other detritus. The mopping portion also did a decent job and you can see the cleaning path as it goes, but it dries quickly so I'm not worried about damage to the floors. It doesn't have the weight or scrubbing ability to do a deep clean, but it does a good job of surface level cleaning (dust, small spills, etc). I think put the chairs and trashcan back down and scheduled it to run the next day. I wasn't watching it run this time, but looked at the map afterward and saw it bounced around the chairs and trash can. I purposely put down a few small messes in the corners and it got them all. I waited a few days before running it again just so there would be more to see in terms of mess. Luckily (?), my son dropped unpopped popcorn all of the floor for a great test. We picked up the majority of kernels by hand and then set the Roomba off to do the rest. I picked up the chairs since some of them went under there. It did okay with that clean up. Some of them were pushed, but most were picked up. The mopping function ensured none were missed altogether. It beeped to let me know that it couldn't continue and then told me to empty the collection bin. That's when I realized the vacuuming portion had to be manually emptied (it says so right on the product and I knew it, but didn't think for some reason) - not a con. Dumped them into the trash, put it back on and let it finish. It did a decent job over all and much better than any other ones I've tried. For the record, I do have a cleaning solution I use and just load it into the tray. It gives a decent shine, but not quite hand mop quality. Overall, I'm very happy and impressed with it.

    iRobot Gets LiDAR

I've learned that brand reputation only carries you so far, eventually, you need to keep up with the tech. The Roomba Plus 405 Combo represents iRobot's attempt to catch up with competitors who've been eating their lunch for the past few years. While there's definite progress here, particularly with the long overdue addition of LiDAR navigation, this robot vacuum/mop combo still feels like it's playing catch-up rather than leading the pack. Setup was refreshingly straightforward: the AutoWash dock found its corner in my kitchen without dominating the space, and the sleek black design definitely looks more premium than my previous robot vacuum. The new ClearView LiDAR mapped my house quickly, though it took two attempts before it successfully captured every room (lighting seems to make a difference here, more light seems to be better). The revamped Roomba Home app did crash once during initial mapping, and it seems like the app could use a little bit more work still. Coming from someone who troubleshoots enterprise systems daily, having to restart a consumer app or workflow process a couple times just to use a product can get annoying. The hardware tells a more promising story. That 70x suction claim sounds impressive, and on hard floors, it handles daily dust and crumbs adequately. The new single rubber brush design resists hair tangles better than other brush systems I’ve used, a welcome change for anyone with pets. What really caught my attention was the spinning dual mop pads that automatically lift when hitting carpet. Smart feature, right? Well, yes and no. While the pad-lifting works reliably, the mopping itself leaves puddles behind. The AutoWash dock does its job washing and drying the pads, but when the fundamental mopping performance is this flawed, even the best maintenance system can't save it. Daily usage revealed both the potential and limitations of this refresh. Navigation is precise, the LiDAR keeps it moving in efficient patterns rather than the drunken wandering of older models. But here's the thing: it lacks any real obstacle avoidance sensors beyond basic bump detection. My charging cables, cat toys, and that rogue sock under the couch? The 405 plows right into them. For comparison, competitors at this price point use AI cameras to identify and avoid obstacles. The cleaning performance on carpets also disappointed, in my tests, it left behind more pet hair than other robots. If you're deeply invested in the iRobot ecosystem and want their latest tech without jumping to a Max combo, the 405 makes some sense. The AutoWash dock reduces maintenance, and if you primarily have hard floors and minimal obstacles, it'll keep things reasonably clean. You’re paying a premium for the Roomba name while getting mid-tier performance. Is it perfect? Not by a long shot. Is it worth considering? That depends on what matters most to you. The Plus 405 Combo shows iRobot is listening to what users want: LiDAR navigation, self-cleaning capabilities, and a more modern approach to mopping. While it stumbles in execution (looking at you, app stability), these are largely software issues that could improve with updates. For die-hard Roomba fans or those who value the AutoWash convenience above raw cleaning power, this represents real progress. After years of the same old tech, it's refreshing to see them trying something different.

It is not that smart, not as I expected. It keeps cleaning a certain area again and again, but leaves the rest area untouched. I tried to find out a solution, looked into the menu from internet, but failed to solve the problem. Finally I gave up and return the product.
