As with the DS, DS-XL, 3DS, the 3DS XL takes a good product and makes it better. I have no complaints about the 3DS XL except that it doesn't come with a power cord charger so it must be purchased separately. The belief is that you'll have one from previous game consoles but kids lose them, pets chew them up, etc. If no one tells buyer there is no power cord charger included, it can be a real problem once you get home.

I never owned a 3DS before this, and it is a fun handheld to own. The build quality is solid and the buttons and joystick feel solid as well. The 3D is okay, but I only used it for a few minutes when I first got it. This particular 3DS does NOT come with a charger, but you can find good chargers for less than $20.

    Awesome System

The new 3DS is a great system. The updated 3D effect is much easier on the eyes, but you can't move the system around a lot. If you do, the system will constantly try to correct itself and you'll be "seeing double." Admittedly, the 3D effect feels more like a gimmick for some games, but it's still a cool gimmick.

    Great Portable System

This is the third 3DS I've bought and I love it! I have the old model 3DS XL as well and can definitely say this "new" model is an improvement. There are more buttons, which are useful when playing certain games like Resident Evil: Revelations and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. And there are also a few games that are exclusive to this "new" model, such as Xenoblade Chronicles. This version of the system has better hardware overall, built-in amiibo functionality, and a special eye-tracking camera that keeps the 3D effect working regardless of which angle you look at the screen from. My only minor complaint is that the brightness of the screen auto-adjusts itself and it can be slightly annoying at times. Everything else is pretty much what one might expect from a portable Nintendo console, which is to say that it's a great way to play video games. This particular "Galaxy" edition also has a nice look to it, which makes it more interesting than simply buying a generic 3DS. Overall, I highly recommend this system.

Purchased the 3DS xl for my mother who is 93. I had given her my original DS and it had finally worn out. She loves the new system and has been playing it daily. Have not turned on the 3D part yet as she is not comfortable with that part. Game system is fast, clear and easy to understand. Would recommend to others. Love it.

    My MH4U Box

This is my first DS since the DS Lite, I'm impressed with the load times for MH4U, but the screen's pixel density could use some help. If the smaller new3ds was available in NA, I would totally have bought that instead despite the smaller screen size. So the upside is that it comes built in with the second analog stick compared to the older hardware. The downside is that the second analog stick sucks compared to the primary analog stick. I guess it beats buying a circle pad pro? Stylus placement is nice, I don't mind it being a lefty. The better 3D cameras show, its still a niche thing, but its fun to show off to people who don't have a 3DS to show them what kind of cool stuff Nintendo is doing. I wear glasses for distance, so watching 3D movies and stuff requires 2 sets of glasses which is a nightmare. So, what Nintendo is doing with glasses-less 3D is good in my book. The buttons are good. Just the right amount of squish to click ratio except for the L1/2 and R1/2 buttons, these are too squishy. The L2 and R2 buttons I never use, MH4U controls are the same as L1 and R1, which is part of the reason why I never use L2 and R2. With that said, when I grip the new3ds I have more of a claw grip than a palm grip, so its hard to reach the L2 and R2 buttons. The default microSD card size is a joke, I think it was 4GB. Even downloading the few free things on the store when I first turned it on exceeded the maximum capacity of the microSD card. I have a 32GB Class U1 Samgsung microSD card in right now, plenty of space and speed. The replacement required me to have a computer to copy the 4GB contents onto, then copy the 4GB contents from the computer to the 32GB card. Nintendo has hidden the microSD slot behind the back cover which was strange to me at first. But really once you upgrade (because you will) you won't need to open the back cover again. So the extra effort to hide it is worth it because its a one time deal. As always, Nintendo shows they can do some crazy awesome stuff with some crazy underpowered hardware. The new3ds took this too far though, give me more pixels please, when I can see the individual pixels without trying, there is a problem. When looking at the hardware specs of the new3ds I can't help but think Nintendo is living in the past a little bit.

My only criticism is that the charger did not come with it. I think that was silly and just a way to get more $. I cannot think of any good reason it would not come with a charger. Of course you have to buy a charger, it's not optional. I didn't even think to look at it for something like that and I had purchased it online so when my son opened it Christmas Day he couldn't charge it to play it. I've never purchased and electronic device that didn't come with a charger. It almost made me want to return it just on principle.

I like the layout and design of the new 3DS. Quality is top notch and 3D graphics are impressive. My only complaint is that Nintendo does not include an AC adapter (power cable). Seems ridiculous to me, but a Nintendo rep that I spoke to at a game store said they did this to keep the price of the unit under $200.

Nintendo has been doing these minor revisions of their handheld lines since the early 90s, so you can compare this new 3ds to an iphone S model. So with that expectation you do get a better screen with more processing power and some little extras. So if you are a Nintendo fan or a person in need of a 3ds then this is the one for you.

New 3DS XL is worth the upgrade

I'm upgrading from my 3DS to the new 3DS XL and it was worth the cost. The updated 3D tracking makes a huge difference in games and the faster processor means games and apps load up twice as fast. I've not been disappointed since I got it. Only downside is that it doesn't come with an a/c adapter, but I was able to use my old one.

It’s a decent system, but the price is too high for an outdated tech that only supports the older ‘n’ WiFi, no ‘ac’ WiFi. Plus one of the included neighborhood software for the mii characters is already not supported and does not let you even launch it. Can’t even delete the software it’s not letting me use cause it was discontinued. Should be sold at half the price, especially considering the Nintendo switch. Only exclusive redeeming feature is the 3d effect.

I've waited for the New 3DS refresh as the 3d glass free effect was much more stable. I'm glad that I waited as the features works extremely well. Games such as Legend of Zelda Ocarine of time in 3d is given new life with the 3d effect. Bonus is that It is also backward compatible with DS games. Definitely recommend.

3D that finally works as promised, an analogue nub that is surprisingly effective, and much faster processor make this a big (if unnecessary) upgrade over its predecessor. However, there are some drawbacks to be had. The screen is still a grainy 240p, the switch back to glossy plastic makes it a fingerprint magnet, and the stylus and MicroSD card slot were repositioned for the worse. Also, history suggests that a next-gen successor could be arriving soon. Highly recommended for those who use their 3DS often. Everyone else can pass.

To be honest, I purchased this system for use with one game in particular. From this I can tell you enough about its success in some areas and faults in others There are three big selling points for this upgraded version of the 3ds, and all of them seem very well done. The face tracking 3d is done very well, although you have to still be a certain distance for it to work well. That said, once you start playing you will most likely fall into that range and only notice an occasional dip in the quality. The second upgrade is to the systems speed, and I do not have a comparison from the older model to help anyone out personally. I have seen a few videos online that showcase this from Nintendo themselves and from customers, so I recommend looking those up if you are interested.I'm fine with how quick it tends to load my game. The addition of two shoulder buttons and an analog nub rounds out the advantages this has over the older model. Having additional buttons always welcome and they seem well placed. The analog nub is not as comfortable as the analog stick on the left side but performs well and is easy to get used to. I have only two complaints about the system, one being that its square shape is not very comfortable to hold. The back is flat, and the system itself is thin so it is ergonomically unpleasant. There is an attachment you can buy that helps out but it is so far only in japan and also extremely popular and often sold out. The second complaint is the battery life is very short. If using all the bells and whistles-online, 3d, screen brightness that self adjusts or just a high level of brightness-you can expecta short playtime. With a powersaving mode, a lower brightness, 3d turned off and online disabled, I can get slightly over 5 hours out of it. Thats with turning it on and off as I do not play five hours in a row, it may last slightly longer in that case but by then I expect your hands to be cramped. Overall not a bad handheld with an easy setup and easy access to options that customize all that it has. If you want a 3ds I see no reason not to buy this new version, but I have no opinion for those who are upgrading as I must again state I have no previous expereince with the older model.

I got this so I wouldn't have to share my regular 3DS with my kids. I love the fact this model is much bigger and feels alot better in an adults hands. I couldn't play the regular 3DS as long because my hands wanted to cramp up being wrapped around it. The face detect 3D works really well. I'm very pleased with this device.

I had bought my son his special edition Pokemon black and white special edition so I wanted a new one as well. I collect hand hld game systems and I very impressed with the galaxy model. Faster load time and larger screen are keys here. Pick one up. You won't be disappointed.

Upgrading to the New 3DS XL is worth it for the improved 3D alone. If you use the 3D occasionally or keep it off all the time, the upgrade becomes less important, in my opinion, as the screen size is identical to the 3DS XL. I've traded in my previous 3DS XL in exchange for credit towards this one, which I recommend doing.
