Brush roll isn’t really self cleaning, hair gets caught in it. It did the job but I wasn’t blown away.

The Shark robot vacuum with AI and laser vision does a very good job cleaning dust and debris from wherever you need it to. During setup, it syncs with your wifi and the app on your phone rather easily provided you use your 2.4Ghz network. It's first run is for exploring and mapping out your house so it knows where your furniture is for reference. Once it's done, the map appears on your phone and you can edit the rooms to better resemble the shape of your house. Then a cleaning schedule can be set complete with a selection of the rooms you want cleaned and the times. I already have a robot vacuum, but it's kind of dumb compared to this, though it's brushroll is quieter. Among the features on the Sharkticon (what I named it) is a brushroll that doesn't wrap hair around it. To accomplish this, it uses some nylon fins that constantly tap against the edge of the housing while spinning making a noisy tapping sound. It looks like it has a pair of sunglasses on it, likely where the laser vision is located. I know it sees things like shoes or toys in it's path because rather than hitting it, it stops and goes around, which I find impressive. I really like how you can program it to do certain rooms on certain days and whether it does 1 or 2 passes. There's even a suction setting that can automatically increase when going over rugs or previously set high traffic areas. It's a feature packed device that, once programmed, will ensure a dust free floor with no missed spots thanks to it's map. While the suction sound is quiet in any of the 3 modes, the brushroll clicking sound is quite annoying. But all things considered, it's a very useful product that will help sanitize your home and filter the air in these challenging times.

We did not give this a chance because it was too loud and had our dogs rowdy. We have tile flooring and I would not suggest this unless you are ok with a noisy vacuum echoing off the floor. It’s a bummer because I was eager to see it’s up and down systematic cleaning route versus the rhoomba random cleaning route pattern. It was just too loud.

Some setup difficulties, but then works well

I've used and been pleased with Shark products before. This is the first robot vacuum I've used, and if the first hour of my experience were typical of use, it'd be my last. However, I worked past the difficulties and so far this has been a pretty good addition to our house. Setup consists of charging the device with its dock. It has some specific guidelines for dock placement so you can't just place it anywhere. Once charged, you use the app to complete setup. There's where my frustration started. Now this was particular to my network configuration, so hopefully this will help others. I use an Orbi mesh network. The Orbi uses both 2.4Ghz and 5ghz networks, but it manages them in the background so there only appears one network name. The robot only uses 2.4Ghz band, and your phone must be on the 2.4ghz. Switching these doesn't work in a mesh environment. So you have to go into your router settings and temporarily disable broadcasting your 5ghz network (for good measure I also turned down the radio strength). So after a frustrating hour of trying to get it to connect, I finally managed to get it to work. Then you can commence upon the mapping process, which takes under an hour, with time varying with the size of the house. I mapped the high traffic areas of my downstairs. Once done, it returns to the dock. The app, which needs some fine tuning, reports a map for your approval and editing. I had to restart the app to get it to display the map for me. After that though, it was a single click to tell to begin cleaning. It does a good job cleaning! And it's not terribly loud, and it does seem to intelligently find its way around. The app is decent but probably needs just a little work, but the overall package is really nice. The setup frustrations I'm sure would be avoided with a more traditional router setup in which the two network frequencies are clearly delineated. But as more and more people move to mesh networks, this may be something they need to address. I wish I'd had a way to manually configure the wifi directly. Overall, though, once it's working, it works well, and I'd recommend it to others looking to automate some of their housecleaning.

I've been using a robot vacuum in my home for the past 3 years and its been great. I have it clean everyday, but only in specific areas of my home. When I got the opportunity to try out the new Shark AI vacuum, I was excited to see what changes had been made in the world of vacuum robots. Set-Up: Initial set-up was ok. Place the dock in an open area, place the vacuum on the dock, and let it charge for a few hours. Downloading the app, you can connect the vacuum to your home network. The Shark vacuum only works with 2.4 GHz WiFi, so I had some issues connecting it to my eero network. Thankfully I was able to set my eero to only send out 2.4GHz for a few minutes, enough time to get my vacuum connected. Once WiFi was set up, I had remote access to the Shark. Mapping and First Run: This robot can map your entire home. I ran the first "Explore" run around my home, and after around 20 minutes, it had a somewhat accurate map of my home. In some rooms, it did a great job of capturing the entire space. In others, the robot seemed to not go fully into the rooms and only mapped half the area. I ran into some issues with rotating the map and labeling areas. In the end, I had to delete 3 maps and did the Explore run 4 times to get the most accurate map. At this point of owning the vacuum, I'm happy with the map. In the app, when I tell the robot to clean specific rooms, it immediately goes to the rooms and starts cleaning. Cleaning: So far, it seems to do a great job with cleaning. You can program what type of Power Level you want the vacuum to clean with, and even tell it to do multiple passes. The dust bin is a bit small compared to my other vacuum robot, but I don't really mind. It also doesn't have a Full Bin sensor, so you need to empty it at least once every other cleaning to be on the safe side. It would be neat if they made an add-on dustbin that would work with the Auto Emptying docks. That would take this vacuum to the next level. Also something that I like is that the robot can recharge mid cleaning and then resume where it left off. Issues: So I have run into some problems with my vacuum. When I first got it, it would always say to refill the reservoir, even though this model does not have one. Something else is that the vacuum has gotten lost before and just randomly stopped. Some improvements that I would like to see are with scheduling. I'd like to schedule my vacuum to clean specific rooms on specific days. Other then some minor annoyances, I think the Shark AI vacuum will only get better over time with software updates. There are many options out there now for vacuum robots. The Shark AI Vacuum stands out as being a mid-priced option with some of the higher tier features. After owning the vacuum for a few weeks, I'm very happy with it and am excited to see what else can be added to it.

Like most Shark vacuums, funtions and cleans well. Software, however, needs a lot of work. Starts and stops outside of scheduled times, along with other software glitches. Nobody likes being woken up by their robot vacuum repeatedly in the middle of the night.
