My god what is this beast?

I shot Nikon for 8 years... 8 YEARS! from d3200 to d7100, to d750 all the way up the d810... Every upgrade gave me something slightly better but overall it was still really about the same camera. Better ISO, more megapixels, and so on, But the way I shot never really changed. I could produce amazing results on either one of the nikons without ever really feeling like the camera was any better. The auto focus, no matter how much hype there was with every upgrade, frankly still felt like I still had to do all the work. Tracking, framing, focus recompose, hold the camera steady/"properly", or get a OS lens, shaky hands? sorry shoot higher shutter speeds. ALL on me as if Auto focus was somehow a required skill for photographers... But this...this is a whole new world. would you ever shoot sports with say...a 85mm prime on nikon or canon? probably not. But on the R3, sony says "here shoot what you want, how you want, when you want, and hey here's 42 megapixles at 10fps for the blank of it, oh and only $3200" WHAT?! To get that kind of performance on nikon or canon you would have to spend $6000 dollars, and you STILL dont get a live image preview, you still dont get a true silent shutter, and you STILL dont get a fully customizable button layout. AND I MEAN FULLY custom. Like i can set individual buttons to focus areas with different shutter, iso , and aperture combos. YEAH. Sony litterally said "DO WHAT EVER YOU WANT WITH THIS" its insane. Oh yeah and 5 axis image stabilization makes it so irrelevant stuff like camera holding etiquette can jump off a bridge. Ive shot portraits one handed with the camera parrallel to my body, WHILE holding the camera BY THE LENS! DO WHAT YOU WANT! Best camera on the market for sure.

Purchased this camera at the end of May. Such an epic camera! Love the colors it produces and the mega-pixels on this camera is crazy high. A small learning curve as I am switching from another brand but fairly easy to learn if you have some prior knowledge about photography. Highly recommend!

This has to be one of the best cameras around. The images are beautiful. The menu system has a learning curve but if you shoot with it daily it will become second nature like any other camera. You can not go wrong with this choice.

Got this because of the small form factor and decreased weight. Currently using it for bird photography paired with a Sony 200-600mm. The high megapixel was chosen over the A7III to get a tighter crop.

I had been shooting with the A7ii for a while and wanted to step up my kit considerably. I wanted to shoot low light and astro landscapes and pulled the trigger on the A7iii. I am very happy that I did. The Increased resolution borders that of a Medium Format rig. I have since also purchased the A7iii and with these two cameras in my kit, I feel prepared for anything.

Priced perfect to transition from DSLR to mirrorless camera body. Paired with Sony VG-C3EM Vertical Battery Grip, weighs what it should for balanced weight using pro-level glass to capture images. Whether native Sony glass or using an adapter like Sigma MC-11 as the case is for my use of Canon glass, the small size of the camera body is too small for average to large hands if used by itself. Menu navigation learning curve is best managed with online videos/in-person tutorials vs relying on manual. Resolution quality delivers beyond expectations for images of people, products and places. LCD and viewfinder makes composition effortless and ideal when shooting tethered from camera to computer. Great camera for beginners to pro.

Great for when you get composition wrong

    Pros mentioned:
    Focus

Composition can make or break a great photo. With the A7R3, if you get the composition wrong, the ability to crop maintaining incredible detail is amazing to get that just right composition. The eye auto focus is amazingly fast and the 10 fps shooting is incredible. I recommend getting the UHS-II card for this camera. Keep in mind that only one slot is UHS-II and the other UHS-I. It would have been nice to have both at UHS-II. It would have been nice to have the Sony UHS-II reader as a companion to this camera included instead of separate purchase but that has nothing to do with the camera. As far as the camera, the battery life is nearly all day for the hobbyist but I recommend carry of a second battery. With the prior generation, I had to carry 4 batteries. This is a huge plus on great battery life. I like the dual slots. A pro camera to never miss a shot as I have two SD cards in the camera and the 2nd SD Card always serves as a backup to the 1st. With the great ISO and 5-axis stabilization, I can finally take evening shots without a tripod and really capture the moment.

    Amazing Mirrorless Camera

    |
    Posted .

Jaw dropping low light ability. Detail it captures will amaze you. Even with Battery grip camera so much lighter then my Canon EOS 5D Mark II or Nikon D300s. 42Mp so much detail and battery life is quite good. I am using a Metabones Adapter so I can use my Canon Lens on my Sony A7R III and opens the door to so many more lens. Can't go wrong with this Mirrorless Camera have show little over 3000 pictures since purchase and find this camera easy to use. Highly recommend getting some books on this camera so as to set it up for how you enjoy using it, so many options to configure it how you use it.

The visual fidelity and quality is beyond anything you can imagine. Make sure to run the FIRMWARE UPDATE to take advantage of the eye-af features. I can't imagine needing another camera for the next decade as the 42.5 MP sensor completely future-proofs you. I am pairing with the inexpensive 50mm prime lens by only and the Tamron 28-200 for a total spend of $1,000 in lenses. Remember, with the hi-res sensor which is double the res of a regular DLSR you can take a picture at 200mm and crop to a full resolution 400mm shot so you don't even need a longer zoom lens.

Loving this camera. Overall It is fast, reliable, and well built. There is two big selling points for my upgrade. The battery is one, the second was the 42 megapixels. I can shoot for a much longer duration then with my past Sony a ii camera. Also with the 42 megapixels it helps me to crop into what i want to when I need to with detail loss. My only constructive criticism is if Sony could simplify and better manage their menu system, personally it is a bit difficult to work through. A simple software UI change could make that possible. Only the future will tell. However I will be hanging on to this camera for many years to come. Would definitely recommend to people looking for an overall great 42 megapixel camera.

    Favored mirrorless camera

    |
    Posted .

I have no issues with this mirrorless camera. My first camera I took with me for my trip to Washington, D.C. was a Sony Nex-6 and the exterior build quality of Sony's cameras is very useful and easy to use. The Sony Alpha A7R III takes vastly superior photos to my phone and as an intermediate user I think the interface could be easier but overall as a mirrorless digital camera I will use as my primary camera it is very good. Sony's original founder was always enamored with Hollywood and their exterior build quality as well as their digital sensors shows me as a consumer how far they loved to innovate and experiment with digital camera technology and the design of the photography products is very useful for an intermediate photographer.

    best mirrorless camera of 2017

    |
    Posted .

They don't call it the best mirrorless camera of 2017 for nothing. It was only available for preorder in store and it came a week later, earlier then expected but I wasn't notified that it already arrived till two days after it had arrived at the store. The staff at best buy was pretty clueless of what the thing was since the name was cut off at mirror, so when I called and asked about it they were looking for a mirror or something. But the camera is great, as described. I shoot professionally, mostly video and photos with this camera.
