    Working Great in Synology DS220j

I ordered two of these in 4TB capacity to use in my Synology DS220j NAS. No problems getting them formatted and set up in the Synology Hybrid Raid (SHR). So far these seem to run cool and fast. When copying data I was hitting the 1 gigabit transfer limit of my local network. Will update if anything changes.

Let me start by saying that this drive is a great value when considering the capacity for the price per Gigabyte. If my math is correct it is about $0.03 per GB of storage. The WD Red series have great capacity for the Network storage niche. I have been using Western Digital drives to store my important files and information for over 10 years now. I have yet to have a drive fail on me from WD. I still have all my older drives. The only thing that changes is capacity. Western Digital's warranty is great too!

Do NOT buy the model that replaced this one...

This NAS drive has been pretty reliable, but they seem to fail once the warranty expires after three years. This model has been replaced by an newer Red drive, the WD40EFAX which uses SMR technology, this drive uses CMR technology. While WD does not state it, you CANNOT mix CMR and SMR in a drive array as it will cause errors. The SMR drive also takes a lot longer to rebuild in an array. Unfortunately, if you want to buy a CMR drive you will now to buy the Red Pro line of NAS Drives.

Love these hard drives. I added this one to my current array for 4 drives total. The other 3 drives have been running rock solid for the past 4 years with zero issues. Drives are healthy perform well.

I really like the Western Digital brand and the RED NAS drives really pack a lot of stability and storage into a consumer affordable package. I'm not currently using RAID with this but plan to eventually build out a real NAS when I can afford another 1 or 2 of these.

Hard drive was exactly as expected. It was an easy install into my QNAP NAS, the screws all aligned correctly, and following the instructions got everything working with no trouble. We've had no problems at all.

I have a decent sized storage server (24 4+ tb drives). I've been slowly moving from more consumer drives to more enterprise drives. So, far these have been fast, consistent, and reasonably priced. I have four so far and no issues.

I got this drive because I've wanted to set up a NAS unit with a good drive instead of a portable drive as they don't seem to last. This drive works great, it's much faster than I thought it would be and very cool & quiet.

Popped these 4TB drives into my NAS and so far they passed all tests and are running fine. I had to replace a 3TB red that started reporting SMART errors after only 2 years and I'm hoping these will have a longer life.

I recently purchased a NAS by Synology, the DS415+. I researched HDD drives and found the Red series by Western Digital to be exactly what I needed: fast read/write speeds, reliable, and good value. I saw the same drives on another website at a lower cost. However, BestBuy offered me a price match, and I also opted to have them ship my drives to the local store so I wouldn't have to wait for shipping. Quick and painless; good deal!

I trusted Western Digital brand based on my experience. Hard drives actually do last but all will eventually fail after a few years so we need backups of course. Some fail sooner, some fail longer than the manufacturer's expected lifetime. This is the first time I'm getting the hard drive designed for NAS type. I hope this lasts longer than a standard hard drive.

I was skeptical of paying so much for such little storage because I always hate when a typically reasonably priced item is branded "x". As such all the reviews I have read said that you should buy NAS branded drives for their speed, efficiency, and reliability. So I did, and so far I am not disappointed. My initial setup is not in a RAID configuration because right now I just need the space, however I plan to add an additional 16GB and place that in a RAID 5 configuration.

Purchased this drive for my Netgear NAS server and it works quite well. I did prelimenary tests on the drive to check it for defects and it was all good. Placed the drive into the NAS server and it was recognized right away and was able to fill it up with lots of data. Drive runs cool since it only runs at 5400 rpm, which is more than enough for a NAS. It's been a couple months since I installed the drive and so far everything looks great.

Purchased a couple of these drives to use in my NAS and they have been working perfectly. Read/write speed is faster than most people need but for NAS use, lower power consumption and reliability are priority. These drives are designed exactly for that and definitely deliver. I compared to other NAS drives and decided on the WD Red line because of lots of positive reviews and long-term usage.

I have only had this drive for a couple weeks, but so far it's been working very well. It's been very quiet, which is an improvement over my older HGST drives. I'm using it in a Synology, which I reinstalled the OS in an attempt to fix some other issues. Access has been much faster since installing the new drive, although that's probably due to the reinstall.
