Outstanding TV

Quality5 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Finally losing our trusty 55 inch, 15 year old, Sony HDTV, we purchased this Sony, 65", OLED, A8G, 4K UHD with HDR as a replacement. Wow! After installing it (it took a bit to get it the way we like it) we are finding that, so far, the A8G is reliable, capable, with a picture quality that is hard to imagine. For example, we have watched 4K Youtube travel content and the best we can say is: "It's like we were there! We were concerned, reading reviews, about the OLED brightness, but, that was to no avail as we have had to back off the brightness to 10% to stop from going blind. :-) The IR Blaster works great as it controls our Comcast Set Top Box with -almost- every feature (lacking only voice searching and an "info" button). The screen is so thin we are almost afraid to touch it....and the TV was light enough for one person to install it. It remains to be seen how long the A8G will last (it has huge shoes to fill!) but, we hope to enjoy this for many years to come.

Great TV, Gaming not so much!
|Posted .Owned for 4 months when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5So I have had this TV about 5 months now which I wanted to wait a little bit before I reviewed it! This TV is hands down the best TV I have ever owned outside of one factor.... Gaming, and the reason why I say that is because there is input lag between your controller and the response time it takes to notice that motion on the TV. If you can designate this TV for just watching regular shows and Movies and such, you will be very satisfied. Just stay away if you are an avid gamer. Just my opinion and ive tried everything to fix it. Now if someone has this TV and does game on it and figured out how to correct that, then let me know please!

Amazing quality

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I’m not a Sony guy at all but when I went shopping for a new TV I was extremely impressed by what I saw. This TV outperformed all others in the room and had a decent price point compared to the LG (the only other OLED TV). Having it home, I have to say that I really like the sound although I don’t use it because I have a 5.1 setup. I also hung it on the wall with the Sony mount for this TV and really love how close it sits to the wall. I am still exploring features but this TV has also restored my faith in smart tv software. It’s completely flawless compared to my Samsung. I’m thoroughly enjoying this product.

Best in class
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5This television redefines black levels! I know that LG supplies the oled panels, but Sony knows how to drive that panel for optimum color balance. Sony is the only 4K television certified by the motion film association! I have always felt that Sony gave a better picture than their competitors, and still do! And Best Buy is the place to buy it or any other consumer electronics product! They are truly on the ball!

Watched Game of Thrones, battle of Winterfell, and was able to see everything in the episode! Would definitely recommend this tv for anyone! And the sound on it is excellent as it uses the whole screen as speakers!!

Fabulous TV Crisp picture Vivid colors
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Considering we live in an area that cable is not available and too many trees for a satellite, therefore having to use an antenna, we're very pleased with how well the picture comes in so crisp and offering such vivid colors. Plus to mention the amount of stations that we receive. Very pleased with our purchase of the TV.

W O W!
|Posted .Owned for 7 months when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Such a great TV for the price I paid. The speaker built into the display actually produces enough range and volume that you will be satisfied in smaller rooms without a large speaker setup. The screen resolution and color output are remarkable. Blacks are very black and the contrast is wonderful with the OLED screen. It has enough inputs and outputs to keep most tech savvy people happy and switches between sources with ease as they are turned on or off. The smart remote control can take over as a fire TV remote without a blink of uncertainty, which is nice because those things are small and get lost easy! Although the TV is large at 65”, it’s also very light. The screen feels almost flimsy because of how thin it is, but it’s sturdy enough. Overall this is a great TV and should last for many years is taken care of properly.

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5We have had this TV since early January and we are absolutely enjoying the picture quality. We also hooked it up to a SONOS sound bar. We have had several SONY TVs for over 50 yearsand are quite satisfied with it's performance. Highly recommend.

Q: QuestionCan you ad a woofer to this tv without sound bar
Asked by David.
- A:Answer I do not think that you would be able to tie in a wireless subwoofer into the TV and still have the Highs and Mids come from the TV. That would require the TV to have a low-frequency pass-off, which it doesn't have. To be honest, unless you need to have a rumbling bass to go along with your TV viewing experience, the sound built into the TV is really good sound quality. As a matter of fact, unless you wanted to have a full-on Surround Sound experience which you would need to pass off the sound to a soundbar or surround receiver, the TV sound is good enough.

Q: QuestionI have just had this TV installed (XBR65A8G). Directv has previously sent info about upgrading to a 4k UHD package to improve viewing. But this TV already has that or do you have to have the Directv package to activate it. Is it needed? Thanks
Asked by MJ301.
- A:Answer Hi, MJ301! Yes, it is needed. You will need a 4k source in order for your TV to display a 4k content. So upgrading your Directv to a 4k package is recommended. And, please refer to this link for additional information about 4K viewing: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/televisions-projectors/articles/00141961 Hope this helps! -Sam

Q: QuestionDo I need the sound bar, room is not huge? Can I just switch out old tv with new w/o Best Buy installing? Will Samsung sound bar work with tv?
Asked by Tom.
- A:Answer You don’t need a sound bar. Sound is very good. I don’t have a sound bar so I don’t know if yours will work.

Q: QuestionCan you provide box weight
Asked by Ganesan.
- A:Answer 70.5 pounds in box. 49.5 lbs with stand. 44.8 lbs when wall mounted (without stand). I am not sure I agree with 70.5 but that is from Sony. Seems to be 10 lbs as I still have the box and it does not feel that heavy. Hope this helps.

Q: QuestionHow wide are the feet on the stand. Wondering what size surface I need to sit the tv on. What’s the smallest surface i could sit it on.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer This is a rough measurement basically because the stand is shaped like a boomerang. Facing the stand towards the front, the stand is 13" wide, the length is 11 1/2"" long and the back flares out to 26". The stand can be reversed so that width of 26" is in front but also makes the television taller by about 2 inches to accommodate a sound bar underneath the A8G.
