Best Printer for the price on the market!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this printer 3 years ago for friends. The printer is very easy for them and has continued to be trustworthy. No problems or issues and the ink that came with the printer is still printing nice copies. We are so happy with their experience that we bought this model for ourselves this year. Easy set up. Pretty quiet printing and it is a nice size. The printer does have a lot of features like a FAX option and Air Print. High Praise for this Brother INKvestment printer!

I Love This Printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seriously, this printer checks all of my boxes and then some. It’s perfect for a home or small office set up. It prints good photos and fast documents. It has a manual tray in the back for loading a variety of documents and a standard paper tray in the front. It has a loading scanner tray on the top of the printer, but you can always put documents and photos directly on the scanning bed as well. The big push for this printer is the “investment ink”. At full, Brother estimates you can get page yields of 1,200 color pages and around 2,400 back and white pages. Brother estimates that these tanks will last a year based on standard usage, but obviously, your yield is going to vary depending on the type of content you are printing. I have had this printer a week. I have printed about 70 documents and about 20 fine quality pictures. So far, I have barely made a dent in my remaining ink (see attached picture). I would have run out of ink in my standard inkjet a few photos ago. But this printer keeps on going. And, when I eventually replace my ink tanks, I expect I will pay less for the year as these huge tanks aren’t all that expensive. I was spending $50 on my HP cartridges that were empty in a few months. I expect these tanks will last much much longer. The printer is easy to set up. Documentation with the printer is fairly limited. There is a QR code on the front of the included documentation that will take you to online files in you need more info, but in my experience, everything was pretty straight forward. You can download the latest drivers from the Brother website or install from the included DVD. For my test, I fully installed the brother software on my laptop, but the other PCs on my network required no software installation. Windows found the device on the network and installed basic drivers for them with no prompting on my part. I would still recommend installing the software as you get more features and can easily monitor the printer’s ink chambers, but if you just want to print office documents, you don’t really need more than the basic windows driver. The printer works great on both Samsung and Apple tablets and phones. In both cases, I could download the Brother iPrint&Scan from Google Play and the Apple App Store to print photos, but AirPrint worked great to just print documents from my iPad and iPhone. The feature set on this printer is amazing. You get dual sided printing. You can fax. You can scan to email. You can scan a document into an editable Word document. You can scan to One Drive, Drop Box, e-mail, or Google Drive. You can even scan a spreadsheet directly into Excel. Scanning to mobile produced a QR code that you can scan with your phone to download scanned document. There are tons and tons of features for this printer and, in my experience, they all worked well. So far, printer maintenance has been easy. In the last week, the printer itself has had two firmware updates. Both times, the printer notified me of the update and installed it quickly and effortlessly. I’ve had no problem with streaks or lines in prints. Everything has come out looking great. I like the quality of my photo prints on this printer much more than a HP printer I picked up a few years ago. The images just look brighter and truer to the screen image. With the right photo paper, images really pop. I got the best results from premium Fujifilm, but even pictures on HP paper looked good. If I had any complaint, the manual paper tray on the back of the machine could be a bit finicky. The printer would say paper is loaded, but sometimes when I went to print I had to reload the photo paper in order to get it to go through. It’s important, I discovered, to make sure your photo paper is fully in the slot. Beyond that, the Brother MFC-J995DW has worked flawlessly. I have been testing this printer for a week. I have documents and photos everywhere and my family thinks they look great. I love the features and simplicity of the printer, the quality of the prints, and the size of the ink tank. This printer really does check all my boxes and I recommend it to anyone in the market.

A solid home office all-in-one
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Brother MFC-J995 is a very nice, compact all-in-one printer, FAX, copier, scanner that is well suited to personal or home office use. It’s a solid product for a reasonable price. However, even with its large ink capacity, it’s really not intended for heavy or enterprise use. The build quality is good as I would expect of a Brother product, and I found the installation to be especially easy. If you’re adverse to reading even the setup guide, the prompts on its LCD screen will walk you through the process. Plug it in, and it turns on. It then prompts you to install the ink tanks and allow them time fill its internal tanks. After connecting to your home WIFI, its banner and test pages automatically print. It does have its demo mode switched on which scrolls through all its features after a short period of disuse. It took a little searching, but this can be canceled in the Setting/Initial Settings/Misc menu. I purposely did not initially load the Brother software on my computer. Windows 10 found and installed the printer/scanner and provided basic functions with generic drivers. After a quick test, I installed the Brother software package. As always, I went online to make sure I had the most current software. Even so, it immediately called home and suggested three recommended updates. This included an update for the firmware and two program modules. During the install, you are given some choices. I skipped the FAX software since I no longer have a landline, but I did choose to install the separate PaperPort program. PaperPort has been around a long time, and it’s pretty much a Swiss Army knife for accessing printer and scanner functions, managing files, and conversion to different formats. This is Version 14 SE. If you want the pro version, you’ll have to pay. I should mention that if you let Windows install the printer initially rather than first loading the Brother drivers and software, you will have two instances of the printer show up under devices. You can leave them both, but to reduce confusion I deleted the initial Windows generic version. As stated, this is a very compact unit. Even with the bump out on the right side to accommodate its “INKvestment” tank system, it’s just a slight bit over 17” in width. The Inkvestment system is the basis of the claim of “one year of ink in the box”. Obviously, time will tell on that count. The printing is clear and sharp, and Brother has come a long way in improving its photo printing. I found that to get truly nice color you need to set the default to “vivid” in the properties menu. For normal printing and scanning (plain paper printing and 200 dip scanning), it has acceptable but not exceptional speed. Photo printing is fairly slow at over a minute for a 4x6 print, but the results are very good for a four-color printer. It does duplex printing but the document scanner does not duplex and has a capacity of about 10 sheets. There is a manual one sheet feed slot on the rear. Connectivity is extensive with WIFI, Ethernet, USB as well as NFC for Android and Apple print. You can print and scan with any and all devices connected to your WIFI or in close proximity. There are USB and an SD Card ports built in as well, so you can print from or scan to connected cards and devices. The software and printer LCD touch panel have a lot of options which attest to Brother aiming at the home office market. The Brother iPrint&Scan appears very simple on its opening page. There are buttons to choose either print or scan, and once you choose you are given basic options. However, if you dig a little, there are lots of potential presets and workflows you can set up with a high level of control. It allows you to scan directly into a variety of programs and several cloud services. Also, there’s the PaperPort program that you can use if it suits your needs. PaperPort can access all the printer and scanner devices on your network, not just your Brother unit. There’s a Brother program called Control Center 4 which is their version of a command and organizational system. Both of these programs have OCR and PDF creation abilities. My conclusion is that the MCF-J995 is a pretty good jack of all trades for family or small home business use. It’s very compact. It’s well built. It has a very large ink capacity for a small unit. It does everything pretty darn well at a very reasonable price for the high-quality results. It’s not a class leader in any individual task, but that’s the nature of all-in-ones. It well surpasses the cheap under $100 units that often break the bank with ink costs and do everything marginally. It’s a good choice that’s worth the money if you’re looking for an actual tool for home use that will last a few years.

A fantastic printer at a reasonable price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Brother MFC-J995DW is a wonderful 3-in-1 printer that does every task beautifully. I tested all three functionalities and will share my experience with all of them in this review. Installing the printer was relatively hassle-free, even though it took me over an hour. I highly recommend following the Quick Easy Guide. The process of installing the ink cartridges was easy and took maybe 5 mins including the wait for the ink to transfer. Setting it up to the WiFi was a bigger task, but only because my router (Sagecom) has issues with new devices. A static IP fixed that though. I tried first to set it up on my iPhone 8, but was unable to print and unable to update the firmware on it, so I had to do it on my iMac. Before being able to update the firmware on a computer (at least through WiFi), you have to download the Java Development Kit, which acted a little bit buggy, but I was able to update the firmware this way. After updating, I could start printing, both on my iMac and my iPhone. As a printer, it works fast and the quality is great. Printing from my computer and my iPhone was easy and quick. You need the Brother iPrint&Scan app both on iPhone and your computer to be able to print, which also allows you to scan. You can also print by clicking the “Print” button in an app menu. When I printed a document this way, the printer was already selected and ready to go, and the document started printing as soon as I hit “Print.” As a scanner, it produces a rich, vibrant scan of the original, and it does it quickly. The color and detail were quite impressive, even on lower settings. With the app, it’s easy to select the destination of the scanned image, making it very convenient. This is easily the best scanner I’ve ever owned. Many of you don’t have or use a fax machine anymore, but if you do, I can assure you it does a fine job at faxing a document. Nothing wrong with the quality of the scan, and it’s pretty easy to save numbers and set up your fax information. The user interface is designed pretty well. You do pretty much everything on a small touch screen, and I had no issues using it. In addition to the touch screen, there’s a back, cancel and home button. Sometimes you have to hit back, other times cancel. Just one button would’ve been fine, because if you hit back when you’re supposed to hit cancel, the printer acts like it doesn’t understand, when you clearly just wanted to back to the previous menu. It’s a minor complaint but I wanted to mention it. Overall, this is a great printer at a great price. I’ve had several printers over the years, and this is definitely my favorite so far. One last thing, remember to pull that little thingy out, or the paper will just fall on the floor.

Oh, Brother!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had a lot of experience with ink printers over the years. With each printer that I have owned, there has always been a sense of compromise. Whether it was high ink consumption or slow recognition of my request to print, each printer had its drawbacks. My pleasure is genuine as I write this review for the Brother J995DW Wireless All-In-One Printer. The set up is extremely simple. The touch screen display guides the user with the quick set up and calibration. Connecting the printer to your Wi-Fi is as easy as linking up your phone or tablet to your network. The printer does come with a small phone cable if you just want to connect the printer directly to your phone line and need to send a fax. I have to mention that the touchscreen display is a decent size, easy to read and recognizes my interactions whereas other printers felt short in those areas. The response time to process my printing request from my laptop was almost immediate. The print time is amazingly fast. For a full-color photo on 8x11 paper, it printed out in 35 seconds. If you’re needing to copy a small document that is several pages, there is an automatic document feeder that makes fast copies while not destroying the original document(s). There seems to have been a lot of thought in the little things like how easy it is to load the paper into the tray or how the paper support tray unfolds to an angle which prevents the paper from falling to the floor upon printout. I also have the option to load a single piece of paper in the manual feed slot for those times where I just want to use a single piece of photo paper without having to pull out the standard paper tray. The manual feed slot also allows for envelopes to be printed on. The Brother J995DW also has the option to print directly from a USB or a memory card directly to the printer. The touchscreen display allows you to preview the photo/image that you are wanting to print. I’m really impressed with this Brother printer. This printer delivers without compromise.

Q: QuestionI don't do a lot of printing but occasionally do need a printer to print out documents or photos for greeting cards. If I don't print for an extended period of time, will the ink dry up and not work?

Q: QuestionDoes it print fast? and can I scan multiple pages at once and does it scan fast/slow/normal?
Asked by Jeana2b.
- A:Answer I believe it scans multiple documents pretty fast! You can only put about 20 or so pages into the doc feeder at a time when scanning, but the app lets you "Add Pages" to keep going until all your pages are scanned into ONE document.
