Q: Does the sim card assign you a number?

A: FreedomPop will give you a new cell phone number unless you pay to port your old one. If you want to keep your old number, I would recommend porting it to Google Voice instead and just never using the FreedomPop number because the app FreedomPop requires for texting and calls is virtually nonfunctional. From the advice I read, most people with FreedomPop seem to use Google Voice/Hangouts/Hangouts dialer -- it is working fine for me and is a free workaround.

Q: Does this annual plan include voicemail & mms texting?

A: Freedompop plans are data only GSM SIM plans despite claims of "talk and txt" they are only with their VOIP calling over the internet. You can also use Hangouts with Google Voice but those mins (data) aren't ignored like the Freedompop included "200mins" or "unlimited" or whatever they claim are included. Back in 2018 a website ( https://bestmvno.com/freedompop/freedompop-launches-best-buy-exclusives/ ) claims that FP claims that MMS was included, but with recent surprise changes I've had on their CDMA plans (they are all gone, Sprint is done) I wouldn't be surprised if the MMS was an extra fee like it was when offered on CDMA. It's a good cheap plan if you get used to the data only limitations, and have WiFi around at home because 500MB or 1GB isn't much. Best to use the LTE/4g/HSPA in the car and try to hop on Wifi at every shop you visit.

Q: I see that FreedomPop is changing its plan structure on its website. What is the future of current and new activations of this "legacy" plan?

A: I just recently activated a FreedomPop SIM I had purchased at BestBuy. According to everything I have been told by FreedomPop representatives after activation you can then upgrade to the new SIM which allows you to use the phone's native calling and messaging apps instead of the FreedomPop app. Whichever plan was on the SIM you purchased will be transferred over to the new upgraded SIM. Technical support has actually improved since FreedomPop was bought by Red Pocket. There is now a chat option for technical support as well as voice call technical support.

Q: Is this a real phone activation or does it require wifi to use

A: It does not require WiFi. But the technology is VoIP. You must use the FreedomPop app for making and receiving calls, not your phones native app. But calls do not count toward your data limit.

Q: I just wanted to confirm that there is no time frame within which I have to activate the FP plan, so I can just hang on to the FP SIM and not activate it until the plan with my current phone company ends, at which point the 12 month countdown begins?

A: Yes, usage doesn't start until you activate the sim. I bought this sim over a year ago $49.99, liked it and bought on sale for $39.99 before my usage was up. Unlimited time limit, who knows.

Q: can I downgrade to free plan with this 19.00 card from best buy

A: No. You would need a different SIM Card to move to the Free Plan. I recommend the SIM Card For the 12 months with 1 GB per month Plan only. After 12 months it will renew at $60. For another 12 months. I figure that’s a bargain at $5.00 per month. I love mine. But it does require that a Credit Card is on file with them. That’s to cover them, if you exceed the 1 GB in a given month. But, in the past I have never exceeded the 1 GB in a month. Buy it, you will love it.

Q: Will freedom pop work with a recently non active ttacfone

A: Your Tracfone would first have to be unlocked (by Tracfone). Search "Tracfone unlocking policy" for more information about that. Freedompop recently sold their company to Ting and Red Pocket. As of today, June 18, 2019, it is unknown if the Freedompop annual plans will be honored. Red Pocket told me they might have answers tomorrow. I purchased a Freedompop annual plan 17 days ago. It has not been activated yet but I am stuck with it because of Best Buy's short return policy.

Q: What happens after the year is up? Can you keep your number? Does this require an app or will it function normally using the standard phone icon? Att service? If you are a current FP user how do you switch?

A: Yes you can, and pay 49.99 for another year. It does require an app to call or message, but data can work without app. Data service is ATT.
