Great Looking Coffee Maker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great 10 cup coffee maker that is fast, quiet, and really nice looking. Set up was extremely easy for this maker. Take it out of the box, wash it out, pug it in, set time, start making coffee. Simple! The build of this is very nice. It is all stainless steel with some plastic parts. Nothing feels cheap on this coffee maker. There is a nice LCD screen to display the time, though, it does turn off after a couple minutes. I do wish this would stay on at all times. It is not too bright as to blind you, but it is definitely easily readable. The carafe is thermal and keeps the coffee hot cup after cup. I do like that the carafe topper is able to lock as well. The filter cone is easy to remove and clean. One thing that I do really like is that the top lid when opened after brewing will drip any condensation back down into the water container. The one complaint I have is that the carafe has a fairly steep ledge on the inside lip so it does not pour the last bit of coffee out easily and I have to remove the lock lid to get the last half a cup or so out. If this design could be improved, it would be a full 5 star coffee maker for me. It is a bit on the large side, so make sure that you check that it will fit in your space. Brewing the coffee is extremely quiet and I had to actually check that it did, in fact, brew. This is very nice in conjunction with the delayed brew feature. You can set the time to start brewing so that you wake up to a hot cup of coffee. No more waking up to the sound of a loud coffee maker! If you would like your coffee a little bolder and hotter, then simply press the BOLD button. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great looking well performing coffee maker. It does run a little higher in price point, but for a great quality GE appliance, I feel it is justified.

Classic design makes great coffee
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My grandmother drinks several cups of coffee every day and for a long time, she would brew full pots of coffee just for herself. A few years back, we switched to using a single-serve coffee maker because it seemed to work best for our family’s needs at the time. In the past year, my fiancé has been working from home and she is also a coffee drinker. So, it makes more sense now to move back to a full-size coffee pot/maker. Plus, it’s nice to have a full-size coffee pot for special occasions when all of us would like a cup of coffee. The GE Coffee Maker caught my eye because it was all stainless steel. We’ve been trying to move all our appliances over to stainless steel finishes and this coffee maker fits right in. The set-up of the coffee maker was very easy. The main assembly was one piece and it comes with a ‘permanent’ filter. Since we’ve been using single-serve coffee makers, we’ve gotten used to not having to purchase paper filters and we rather enjoy it. So, seeing this reusable filter being included with this machine was refreshing. Cleaning it out is easy and it’s much better for the environment. The main assembly of the coffee maker is quite large. We placed it on an open countertop so the height of it isn't an issue for our house, but I could see how it might be detrimental to some people. Make sure you measure before you make plans for where to place it. When we select new kitchen appliances we always look for ease of use. My grandmother embraces new things, but sometimes she has a hard time learning how to use them. So, even though some coffee makers come with super-advanced technologies or features included, that's not always what’s best for every household. GE made things simple with the operation of this coffee maker. You fill the reservoir with water, fill the basket with coffee grounds, and press the brew button. She had no trouble learning this new appliance and that meant it solidified its place in our home. While I enjoy this new addition to our home, I did have a few issues with it. First, the coffee pot doesn’t allow for an even flow of liquid. The carafe has a large lip towards the top of the kettle that prevents all the water or coffee from pouring out of the container. This is a problem for getting all the coffee out of the pot and when filling the water reservoir. I ended up having to swirl the remaining liquid around and then even shaking the pot so that every drop would eventually fall out of the carafe. In addition to the carafe being an odd shape for even pouring, the water reservoir has a narrow opening so it's really hard to get water into it without spilling some. I also noticed that when I thought I had a full pot of water that I was pouring into the coffee maker, the level only said 8 cups instead of the maximum 10 cups. Despite the small issues I found with the coffee maker, it has some very big bonuses, too. I already mentioned the reusable filter, but I didn't mention the taste of the coffee it produces. The coffee maker has a bold option for brewing, but it produces a stronger brew without having to select that option. The coffee maker is exceptionally quiet and it’s hard to know when it’s done brewing unless you’re in the same room with it. I think the best bonus feature of this coffee maker is the fact that the carafe is thermal. It will keep coffee warm for hours. I poured a cup of coffee 2 hours after it had been made originally and the liquid was still warm. Even though there are some areas for improvement, I would recommend this to others on the basis that it keeps coffee warm long after it’s been made and because the filter is reusable. The coffee maker also makes great coffee.

Keeping It Classic
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know if you have ever used a thermal coffee pot before. I'm going to pretend like I know you haven't and I'm going to tell you this simple truth. Once you get a thermal coffee pot, you will never have the desire for a glass pot again. The GE Classic Drip Coffee Maker is a great entry level thermal pot for your home, office or dorm room. Not only is it a gorgeous looking appliance, but it keeps your coffee hot for hours. I mean HOURS. It comes with its very own forever filter. So the need to buy coffee filters are out the window. This pot brews up 10 cups of coffee quickly for those days that you just don't feel like setting the auto brew feature( Yes. That is an option.) The clean layout and nonintrusive screen allows for the atmosphere around the room to stay undisturbed when it's not in use , as the screen times out and goes to sleep to reduce that unseemly glue. The only drawback is the fact that it only brews 10 cups of coffee. And that pretty much equates to a couple mugs. In an office setting or a heavy traffic area, this will mean that you'll be brewing multiple pots of coffee in a day. But if it's just you and you like to sip a cup throughout the day, this is the pot for you. Because this baby will keep the heat. That being said, this thing will run you $119.99 USD. But again, this is GE we're talking about. And they definitely know their way around aa appliance. I definitely recommend this coffee maker to anyone who loves coffee all day.

1 Word...THERMAL!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Out of the box it is a snazzy looking coffee maker and so far this is my most favorite one I have had. It may be low on features, but the Thermal Carafe is such a game changer for my coffee consumption. Pros -Low ‘plastic smell’ when unboxing, which was nice. Got a bit of a plastic flavor in the first batch even though I washed everything, so I’d recommend doing just a water brew cycle at least once before brewing coffee. -Thermal Carafe is great! I’m the only coffee drinker in the house and at that I don’t drink a lot. Making 6 cups will take about 2 hours to drink normally. Which by the time I get to that last pour it's already burned. The thermal carafe definitely takes care of that problem. I made an 8-cup for the first pot and I’ve been drinking it off and on for about 3 hours and kept the same flavor profile throughout and stayed hot in the thermal carafe. Brewed an 8-cup pot before Church and just filled up a 12-oz thermal cup. Came back 3 hours later and the remaining coffee in the pot was still hot enough to enjoy! And That is the sole reason I wanted this maker. -Very quiet when brewing. -Don’t have to unscrew the lid to pour like a thermos and as already stated holds the temp really well. Cons -Water Reservoir is pretty tight and technical to fill. Definitely want to be awake for that one, with good lighting. -Clock does not stay on, tapping the hour or minute button turns the LCD back on, but that is kind of weird for it not to stay on all the time. -LCD Screen keeps shutting off. Takes about 2 minutes and it shuts off. Observations -Carafe pouring is pretty slow and you definitely have to tilt it more than a traditional pot when pouring. Just something you will have to get used too, it doesn’t rush out, so that is good. -Height of the maker is pretty tall, so check your counter to bottom cabinet height. -Carafe seating on the warming plate I notice I keep double checking it is sitting where it is supposed to. Will take a bit to get used to its positioning. -Instructions for the thermal and glass carafe version are different. The thermal states that you are NEVER to leave the carafe on the warming plate, but doesn’t give any context. So does that mean don’t let it sit for extended periods of time on the warming plate? No context is given. -When is the brewing done? No indicator when it is done brewing. It's nice it is a quiet brewer, but there is nothing to notify you when it's done, outside of not hearing the brewing sound, but it is very quiet. -Cone mesh filter. I prefer paper filters just because they are easier to clean and I have a septic system and don’t like putting the grains down the drain. -Coffee temp seems a bit cooler than what I am used too. Bold setting doesn’t seem to make it bolder, but did seem to add just a bit more heat to the finished brew.

Almost 5 stars if it weren't for.....
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I almost rated this 5 stars. We will get to that later. Coffee maker is great. Sleek modern stainless look that matches my oven. Comes with reusable filter. Easy to program. Easy to clean with stainless. The carafe kept coffee warm for hours. I brewed it at 5:45 am and it was still hot past 7 am. Bold option allows for darker brew. I am not a coffee snot so coffee is coffee to me. The only thing I could ding this on is it is hard to fill by using the carafe. You need to use something else to fill the reservoir. Great job GE. I would recommend this product.

Great looking, but not perfect
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the look and build quality of this coffee maker, but not the instructions or controls. Pros - Great build quality and finish. Stainless-steel looks great. - Stainless-steel carafe keeps coffee warm and is durable - Cord storage - Brews quickly and quietly - Reusable mesh filter Things to Consider - The stainless-steel carafe version depends on the carafe to keep the coffee warm and it does not stay hot enough for me over time - the stainless steel carafe version does not have a keep warm feature like the glass version - this is evident in the instructions, but not made clear unless you note the differences between the two versions. - The recommended amount of coffee grounds in the instructions is 2 tablespoons per cup, this is twice as much as my previous coffee make and was way too strong for my taste. My favorite combination was 1 tablespoon per cup with BOLD selected. - The instructions are lengthy and hard to read. The booklet includes instructions for both the glass carafe version and stainless so make sure you are following the correct ones. - There is no brewing complete indicator, which means you have to check before grabbing a cup. There is a valve that stops the flow of coffee when the carafe is removed, but it is not mentioned in the instructions, so I am not sure if you can remove it while brewing even though it appears possible. - You get used to the controls, but they are not always intuitive (reminded me of setting an old VCR). The LCD shuts off even if you set a time, so you can't actually see the clock or auto brew setting unless you press a button. This also leads to confusion as my older aunt could not figure out why sometimes she had to press BREW/CANCEL twice to start the coffee and sometimes it started on the first press (the first button you press "wakes" the coffee maker and then the buttons work normally after the LCD is on). - The stainless steel carafe is not as smooth and harder to clean on the inside compared to a glass one. - The included coffee filter works well, but takes a little extra time to clean compared to a disposable paper filter (which you might be able to find, but is more of a challenge due to the cone shape). Despite its short comings I would still recommend this coffee maker, because of the build quality and appearance. I might consider the glass version, which likely has the same great build quality with the keep warm feature - unless you normally take the carafe on the go.

I really wanted to love this coffeemaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This GE 10 cups coffee maker provides a very classy design with an elegant looking. The quality is outstanding, the stainless body is nice and matches my other kitchen appliances. The display is bright and numbers are readable and easy to program. Cord storage on the back is a good feature. The carafe is breakable and insulated/ thermal which is made to keep coffee warm for a longer time without a machine is needed to stay on. However, this coffeemaker has numerous issues; From my experience, the thermal carafe does not keep the coffee warm for more than an hour, also the water filling is an issue, the reservoir is poorly designed where it is hard to pour the water into it, and leads to mess as well as leaving about one cup of water inside the pot and can't be poured completely or emptied. Moreover, due to the pot lid design, pouring coffee out of it leaves an amount of coffee inside even with my attempt to tilt it down. The display turns off automatically after 2-3 minutes which is kind of odd.

Q: QuestionDoes Carafe have to be heated prior to making coffee. In other words, do you have to put hot water in the carafe prior to making coffee, in order to hear the carafe? I found this is the case with stainless steel carafes.
Asked by TommyG.
- A:Answer Putting hot water in the carafe would certainly help warm up the carafe making the coffee warmer, but I’d never bother.
