I am a universal remote skeptic. Others I have had simply were not usable in a real home theatre environment. So , I found my self "surrounded" by 4 remotes at all times. Now the others I had were cheaper or came with equipment I purchased. This is the first "premium" remote I have owned. I was convinced by the reviews and Black Friday pricing to give it a try. This remote passed my useability test easily. I can now use one remote for 99.99 percent of the functions for my equipment. Getting to the commands is not a difficult or time consuming task. The auto start scripts you can program into the unit make selecting starting a DVD movie or Satellite TV a one button push process. For non-techie types they have made the programming process fairly easy. But to be honest a techie type will be able to make better use of this remote because you can setup some fairly elaborate startup scenarios that make the remote a really good investment. The only programming issue I ran into is an advanced scenario that predates the design of the remote. In my case I am using my TVs RVU capability that allows it to get video data from a central settop ( direct tv ) box. Direct TV has a handy "red button" sports scores update button on its remote that is not emulated in the TVs RVU function. Since my TV is not in the same room as the set top box the Universal Remote cannot access this one special button feature ( becuase the TV RVU function does not recognize it ). But that is a minor minor issue. If you always wanted a useful Universal Remote and if you wanted it at a Black Friday price........... this is your opportunity. There are some who dont like the rechargeable battery. Why????? If you dont you can use regular batteries. Oh the other GREAT feature of this device is that it turns on when you pick it up............. aka no turn on or off step required. That and the back light / screen features make this an easy to use remote. It gets my recommendation........ espeically at a Black Friday Price. Oh this device also controls my specialty ceiling lights which are dimmed via a LED remote control.......... one less remote again !

It is a universal remote. It does control multiple devices. Setup was relatively easy. A couple of times the software hung up at the end of a programming / update session, so I had to unplug, replug, and do it over. The good: - I like the fact that the buttons illuminate automatically when the remote is moved, without having to press a button first. - It controls all of my entertainment equipment (but does not perform all of the functions that the dedicated remotes can perform). Gripes: - Why are the buttons above and next to the display not illuminated? Those are the buttons I need to use most often! - Not enough Favorite Channel slots available. Memory is cheap, people! - Cannot perform even 20% of the functions that my AV Receiver remote can perform. - Need increased ability to edit commands and sequences. Complicated example: My Samsung Television and Samsung DVD player talk to one another over HDMI, so in cases where I was last watching a DVD before I switched everything off, when I press the button on the remote to turn the television back on and watch TV, the television will initially turn on with the DVD input active (before the remote switches it to the Cable Box input). When the DVD player sees that the TV is looking at its input (even for an instant), that causes the DVD player to switch on, which in turn causes the TV to switch back to the DVD input, even after the remote has switched the TV to the Cable Box input. Then I have to manually switch the DVD player back off, and switch the television back to the Cable Box input. I could probably fix this problem if I could edit the commands that the remote sends when it switches everything off, or if I could add commands to turn off the DVD player and switch the television to the Cable Box input a second time when turning on in watch TV mode, but the remote doesn't allow me to do either of those things. More Opportunities for Improvement: - Would like to have a charging cradle. Plugging a micro usb into the nose of the remote to charge it is a little cumbersome. - Would like the remote to have Bluetooth, since my television remote has that capability. - Would like more than three action buttons, so I don't have to make multiple button presses and look at a menu in order to start listening to music or playing a video game.

So I bought one of these remotes 5-6 yrs ago (same model #) & loved it. Recently I decided to buy one for my mother: I discovered that there was an updated version of the same model. Whereas mine had a smooth, glossy coating that made it slippery at times, the one I bought my mother has a textured surface that feels more comfortable in the hand. The newer one also came with its own rechargeable batteries - chargeable via USB cable plugged directly into the remote - whereas my older one did not. What remains the same between both is the responsiveness of the functions and the customization options. I love the macro option where I can program a single button to turn on my TV+receiver+Blu Ray player and be ready to go. Use the downloadable software and you can program equipment by just entering the model number - Logitech stays up-to-date & had my mother's 2016 model Samsung TV in the database when I bought the remote during the summer. The backlit keys are a major plus, as is the color display for your custom keys. The infrared learning scanner is simple to use - but please note that newer Samsung TV remotes seemingly cannot be scanned to learn new keys. I loved how my mother's new remote worked out - enough that I decided to buy myself a new one, too! And that's where I came across the one caveat. I'd been used to utilizing the downloadable Logitech Harmony software to program the remote - allows for 6 items to be added. But Logitech has the new MyHarmony tool that can be used now.... Unlike the old program, this one allows the remote to have up to 8 items added. BUT a lot of antivirus programs red-flag the program as harmful for some reason. I've seen that customers have been complaining for a LONG time but not much has been done to fix it. Lucky for me I only need to control exactly 6 pieces of equipment; I'm not sure if MyHarmony truly is a risky thing to use but I tend to prefer relying on what my antivirus tells me. It sucks that there isn't some firmware update that makes it possible to use the old program to add 8 total items. (shrugs) Aside from that, it's a pretty great remote.

I have some very old components that are still functioning. VCRs, Audio sound Systems and Multi-disc DVD players. My sound system is 20 years old, however the buttons on the remote that came with that device, sticks, jams or just plain fails. Did some research, and saw this Universal Remote, and thought I'd give it a try. After all, Best Buy has a return policy, so if this did not work on my devices I could return it. The Logitech - Harmony 700 8-device Universal Remote, has easy to follow instructions, and best results if you set aside a good hour to program the remote control. The Logitech - Harmony 700 8-device Universal Remote, was able to identify ALL of my equipment including the Comcast DVR and to my surprise, the 20 year old Panasonic sound system. All together I have consolidated 6 remotes into this 1. No more swapping remotes, or looking in the cushions for another. The Logitech - Harmony 700 8-device Universal Remote combines them all. After a couple of weeks of use, I actually liked this so much that I purchased another one to use in another room. Definitely saved me from having to replace my sound system, and no longer have to get up, walk across the room to manually push buttons. Harmony has a website, that will assist in assigning functions to buttons, and customizing the commands that you choose. I suggest setting aside and hour or so to thoroughly understand how to organize your new remote. I found that to re-charge, its best to just swap out the batteries, rather than try to charge via USB. Be sure to use 2000 mAh NI-MH rechargeable batteries. A full charge last approx 2 weeks. To charge via USB takes several hours. Remote has a nice solid feel to it, and easy to navigate the controls once you have programmed it using the instructions provided on the Harmony website. Programming/Set-up via USB works better with USB 2 than USB 3. Ordered from Best Buy and used their Site to store option. Process was very easy, pickup at store was simple and quick. Very pleased with the Harmony 700 remote.

Needed a new remote because puppy used the TV remote for a chew toYou, so I didn't do any research ahead of time. Went to Best Buy because I knew the staff there would know more about remotes than "they are in Isle 12". A vvery nice, knowledgeable lady walked up and talked me through what would be best for me (I dont see a need to spend 100-200 on a remote). Setup was really easy, the builtin color screen talks to me in sentences, not cryptic codes or blink sequences. ithe display isn't touch screen, but I'm happy about that. The buttons around the screen you use to select things on the screen work very well. Everything on the display is crisp, we'll lit and easy to read. Plus all the buttons glow in the dark, so I don't have to angle it at the TV to see which button is which. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is sometimes it doesn't turn everything off when I hit the off button. However, the display always asks if everything did what it should, and has a 1-button process to resolve it. A minor annoyance at most. (See attached picture. The display is crystal clear, my iPad just didnt capture it well) Plus, the following week it went on sale for $10 less, spoke with customer service and they gladly rebat d the difference.

If you are looking for an all in one remote that will control just about all your toys, look no further. For the price you can not go wrong $40-$50 bucks on sale. I am currently using this remote to control a Vizio TV, Channel Master DVR+, Samsung Blu-ray Player, Roku 3 & a Samsung Sound Bar System W/Sub and it works very well, it takes a minute or two to get the hang of it, but after that you will not miss having all those other remotes. Setup was a breeze and it is done by creating an account with Logitech online and bamn, you are all done. The only issue that I can see, since I had the remote for a while, is the slippery backside of the remote, it has no grip at all, or should I say very little grip, other than that it is a very good remote with a back-lit keypad and LCD screen. One more thing save your self some time and pick up some rechargeable batteries, it does work with regular batteries, but rechargeable ones work better and last longer. My package did say 2 rechargeable batteries included, but quality control must have been on lunch when the packaged mine, luckily I all ready had AA rechargeable batteries.

This remote always works. Sometimes when I hit the activity button (such as watch Bluray) to turn on the systems my receiver would revert back to "TV". However, I adjusted the settings on the remote so that the TV would turn on first and others would follow. This way I don't have to hit the Help button. I like lots of buttons because it makes using the remote more efficient. The screen is helpful, but the interface is way too time consuming when configuring the screen when you have tons of options like I do for my receiver. But, I can totally customize which order the options show up on the screen. I wish it were radio frequency and I wish it had a cradle for charging so I wouldn't have to connect it to the charger. Other than that, it's a great remote. For beginners I could see how they could get frustrated with how to use the remote. It takes time to understand the concept of using the activity buttons and switching from device to device.

My first smart remote, I was anticipating a long complex configuration process, but much to my surprise, it was super easy and quick to program the remote to what we want to do with it. Also easy to make changes. Start out by having available the brand and model numbers of your gizmos, as you will need to know exactly what you are trying to control. Download the Harmony software, plug the remote into your computer via included USB cable, and start in. There are a few pre-defined actions, e.g., Watch TV, Listen to Music. By telling the Harmony software what to turn on, you build an action. For example, to Watch TV, I have the Harmony turn on my display, my tuner, and my receiver, and set the receiver to the appropriate HDMI input. When the remote executes an action (e.g., Watch TV), the display will ask if everything is working...if you say no, it will try to turn on the gear that didn't turn on. Pretty sophisticated. Is this One Remote To Rule Them All? So far, yes it is: I have four remotes in a drawer and one sitting on my table. Well, two: I like the remote came with the AppleTV 4, but I could drive the Apple TV with the Harmony. Why is this my first universe remote? Well, I couldn't bring myself to shell out big $$$ for "just a remote." At this price point, it's ridiculous not to buy one. And rest assured, this is a very sophisticated device that is very easy to program.
