I did not charge mine prior to taking it to TMobile to get the smaller sim card, there was plenty of juice in from the factory. As for contacts and numbers coming over, easy-breezy. Everything came over when they activated the new nano SIM card, and then the images came over via Bluetooth. You will either need to tether the two or use Bluetooth to transfer your files over, worked like a charm transferring from an older Samsung model.
