QuestionHow good is the wifi signal going vertically to the floor above? The room with my cable modem in the basement will have to be where I put my main Orbi, and the eating area above is a common area we need good wifi, but it will be right above the Orbi. ??

- Answer I have a similar set up in my house. My modem and network equipment is in my basement and my dining room and living room are directly above. The main unit is next to my modem and the satellite is upstairs. The satellite connection is very strong, no noticeable signal loss. My speeds have been consistent and above what I pay for from my ISP. I’m also usually maxed out, for the WiFi connection, for file transfers between computers and my NAS.

QuestionI have a nighthawk X6 router connected now and everything is running pretty good except one dead Spot upstairs.I bought the AC3000 with one router and the satellite .How can I make both work together? Or not

- Answer Not quite sure of what you are asking. Are you going to replace the X6 with the Orbi AC3000? If so, it is an easy install using the included directions. Essentially bringing up the Orbi router and then the Satellite and placing it somewhere in the middle of your home. If you are talking about installing the Orbi in addition to your X6 then that is a whole different situation and you would have to get more info somewhere as I don't know the answer..

- Answer yes I have the 5000 sq ft Orbi in a 2000 sq ft home and the signal reaches out way beyond my home into he back yard and front yard not sure on vertical coverage. we have Frontier we have CAT 6 cable into the Orbi they are OUTSTANDING I get 150 /150 wirelessly and each hub has ethernet plugs fastest device I ever used steady signal we run a smart home on it so I have 15-20 connections at any time on the network.

QuestionSo comcast has a monopoly going at the apartments I'm living in, my question is can I use this instead as my internet service and completely cancel comcast? The only devices I use for Internet is an amazon firestick, my tablet and phone and a laptop.

- Answer No. You still need a service (Comcast) to supply internet connectivity. This system creates a wireless network that connects you to that service provider.

QuestionI live in a rural area and do not have any wifi now. We did have Hughes net but did not care for the service we received. If we were to purchase the router and satellite combo, would we still need to use a service provider?

QuestionQuestion for Nest thermostat owners. I see several recent reviews across the internet stating this router combo still is not compatible with Nest cameras, however does anyone have experience (issues) with the thermostat? Thanks for any advice & input.

- Answer I just installed this router & satellite combo and both of my Nest's worked like a charm. I changed the network name to match the old one and there were no issues 30 minutes after the router and satellite came out of the box.

- Answer I believe that you can ad all Wi-Fi devices including your ADT security system cameras.... right now I have over 16 Wi-Fi devices connected all day, everyday and three items hard wired to either the router or the satellite base.

- Answer No. You would be trying to force the system to bypass it's greatest feature. - Answer I have a 2600 sqft home and use both the main Orbi and the satellite on the middle floor and it gives me great coverage upstairs and down in the basement. Hope that helps.

QuestionI am torn between the Orbi and the Luma systems. The Orbi seems to have the performance edge, however the Luma seems to have a better app interface - specifically parental controls. We have two pre-teens, and this feature is important. Thoughts?

- Answer I just purchased the ORBI and it's working great as I had had several deadzones/dropped signals to my 3 Nest cameras and deadzones in the house where my wife's I-Pad wouldn't work.. Before purchasing the ORBI I did a good bit of research and the ORBI came out on top most of the time. Can't remember what it was but there were several negative reviews on the Luma. I would suggest you contact the ORBI Rep to get more details about parental controls. My kids are grown so I don't have to worry about controls, but do understand.

- Answer Not as of 12-2016. There is a USB port and, apparently, future firmware updates will allow for this feature soon. Most recent firmware added the ability to create guest networks as promised by Netgear.

- Answer Just a router and Satellite. It acts as one network unlike a regular extender but you must have a cable or DSL modem to connect to.

- Answer I saw no way to use the primary as a satellite when setting up the Orbi system. Netgear will be selling Satellites separately, though. I'd suggest waiting on that. Also, "big home" means different things to different people. I don't know if you're talking about 15,000sf or 4000sf. If closer to 4k, then the single base and satellite may be sufficient.

QuestionI currently have a main router in the house and a secondary in the shop connected via cat5e. This requires 2 different wifi networks. Could the satellite be connected via cat5e to maintain the same wifi network in the house and shop?
