QuestionThis specs states that it has GPS. Does it record GPS location and speed on the viewed camera footage? There is a GPS powered mount that is available for these types of cameras. Are these extra mounts needed to record GPS and speed on the footage?

- Answer Personally, after spending the past 20 years as a expert witness testifying in court cases all around the US, I prefer NOT to have GPS information stored on my dashcam. Most highway average speeds are approximately 5 mph over the posted speed limit, with the average speed RANGE going from the posted speed limit to about 10 mph above. If you document the fact that you were exceeding the speed limit (even if the video shows you were actually the SLOWEST vehicle on the road that day and cite the fact that every piece of research ever published shows that DEVIATION from AVERAGE speed--not speed per se--is what causes accidents), the other side at your court case will focus exclusively on YOUR speed at the time of the accident (regardless of whether that was actually an issue or not). The simple fact that you can SHOW video of what occurred in the accident is far more effective than anything else you can do. If the other side asks you to prove that the video is from THIS accident, simply ask them exactly how many catastrophic accidents they think you have with cars identical to the other side's client?

QuestionMy dashcam 522GW is making a fast kind of beeping noise when I start my car. If I take it off the holder and hit the reset button, it stops until I hook it up again. What could be causing this? Thank you.

- Answer Hello Pat, Please remove the SD card, then press the reset button on the underside of the Dash Cam. Then, without the SD card inserted, please turn on the Camera. Does it now start normally? The alarm is usually symptomatic of a failed SD card. SD cards only have limited lifespans. In our manuals we recommend formatting every 2-3 weeks to prolong the life of the card. Without this regular formatting, or if the card is non-compatible or damaged, the card could corrupt which would cause a failure of data writing. Symptoms of SD card failure are: an audible 'alarm' tone, non-functional buttons, freezing, corrupted files on playback, image missing from files, lack of file recording etc. Please ensure you're using a compatible SD card and formatting every two weeks. QuestionCan you disable the GPS monitoring on it ? I don't want it recording my speed. Just like almost 90% of the drivers, I tend to drive with the flow of traffic and most flows are 5 - 10 miles over the speed limit.

- Answer As long as you have it plugged into a "live power port" ,(meaning it still has power with the key off), it will continue to record.

QuestionI'm interested to know about cloud backup on this device so that, for instance, a crooked cop cannot take the SD card and destroy the evidence. Is there an easy way to quickly trigger a file save to the cloud?

- Answer In my opinion, the two provided window attachments do not lend themselves for use as a backup camera. Suggest purchase of the 522GW or similar model and one of two accessories which are meant as a rear view camera, i.e.; 1) Rear telephoto camera attaches directly to the 522GW or similar model and shoots directly through the cabin out the back window just like the rear view mirror; 2) Rear camera is mounted on the rear window and attaches to the 522GW or similar model with a long cord. I purchased option one and really find it functional because I did not want to run a cable through the cabin even though it can be hidden.

QuestionHow does Alexa give you directions to your desired destination? Do they show up on the screen, or is this Alexa feature not available on this dash cam?

- Answer Once you are connected to Alexa on the Dash Cam, you simply ask Alexa for directions to your destination, as you would normally. Your Cell phone will dictate which navigation APP you use and open this to perform the navigation. Car Play / Android Auto mirrors the map on your Car Stereo if available. If you have Bluetooth connected your Cell phone to your car, you should get the turn by turn instructions via your car speakers, if not the spoken words will come from the Phone itself. Works very well using tried and tested Google Maps, for example.

- Answer Hello, All settings will be retained, even if the battery runs out of charge. The only time the settings would be lost is if the battery itself has expired, which usually takes multiple years of usage.

QuestionHello, I'm having a difficult time inserting (and removing) the SD card in the Nextbase-522GW Dash Cam. It's the exact type recommended and when it (eventually) stays inserted, I'm still getting a message saying, "Insert SD card". Dazed and Confused am I.

- Answer You need to use your nail to push the card slightly below the level of the camera for it to lock in place. Or, if like me you bite your nails, (carefully) use thr corner of a credit/debit card to push it far enough down.

- Answer Hello, There's two different type of fuses in a vehicle- switch live fuses and permanently live fuses. A Switch Live Fuse provides power to the ports only when the car's ignition is turned on. When the car is switched off, the ports will also be turned off and the camera will not receive power. A Permanently Live Fuse will provide power to the ports at all times, whether the car's ignition is on, or off. You'll be able to identify this as the camera will be permanently on. The Hard Wire Kit will allow the camera to draw nominal current from the car's battery, preventing the cam's battery from being drained. The Hard Wire Kit has an in-built voltage cut off which protects the car's battery from being drained below 11.2V. If you want to use Parking Mode, we'd recommend using a Permanent Live fuse position, and then enabling Parking Mode on the camera. Parking Mode will turn the camera off when there's no movement in the car (e.g. parked), and prevent the camera from unnecessarily using your car's battery power.

QuestionMy next base 522 has been hardwired in. When in use it now shows continually my speed in large letters across the screen. How do I get back to it showing video of my journey instead of continual speed reading across the screen.?

- Answer Hello, you have Screen Saver Speed Display enabled. Please disable this setting by following these instructions - 1) Turn the Dash Cam on. 2) Stop it recording (by pressing the red circle). 3) Go into Settings (the button in the top left). 4) Go into Setup settings. 5) Scroll across to ‘Screen Saver. 6) Select the Speed Display setting. 6) Disable the Speed Display here.

QuestionJust got my new Nextbase - 522gw yesterday and used it today for the first time. It worked great all afternoon. I put it back in the car tonight and it does not come on. The blue light is on but that is it. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

- Answer Yea it does continuous filming. It overrides oldest footage first. It depends on the resolution on how much it can record. Requires no data plan. I love mine so far. Very good resolution and video looks great.

- Answer Hello Jobir, The 522GW has three options for resolution- 1440P @ 30FPS, 1080P @ 30FPS or 1080P @ 60FPS. We usually recommend putting the camera on 1440P @ 30 FPS, however I'd also recommend trying 1080P @ 60 FPS so that you can see the difference in the footage quality.
