Half a cubic foot is about equivalent to a regulation size basketball. Three-tenths is about a regulation size volleyball. In other words, the difference between a 4.0 and a 4.5 is that a 4.0 can wash a king size comforter. A 4.5 can wash the same king size comforter, as well as the fitted sheet AND the flat sheet.

Please try again later.In Layman's terms that's sort of like asking the group should I buy a small commuter car, a mini-van or a Suburban ... its more of a decision of your personal style and needs. For me, it boils down to this question: Do I wash large loads of the same type of stuff frequently so the larger capacity would let me get done in fewer wash cycles, (i.e. whites, colors, darks - done) or do I target my cleaning cycles and wash more smaller loads strategically (dirty whites, not so dirty whites, sheets, towels ...) The price difference between the sizes is large, but what is the value if I can wash 1 or 2 fewer loads of laundry a week, (think 50+ a year) IF my laundry style allows...
