QuestionDolby 5.1 and digital surround soundIf I have a home theater blu ray system running the optical out from home theater to optical of the TV. Will this give me surround on recorded shows that are in 5.1 or dolby digital since,it was mentioned Tivo doesn't , have a a digital sounnd connection.Bottom line will I totally lose having surround sound on recorded shows with this model.

- Answer All your speakers will work, mine do, but will it seperate the sounds to give that surround feel, I only have my Fri=ont 3 speakers up so far and they all work.

- Answer netflix uses its own closed captions that tivo doesnt have control of. Whatever netflix has for its app per video is what netflix is using.

QuestionReduced receptionThe connection through the TiVo reduces the reception of the antenna (e.g. If I connect the antenna directly to the TV, several channels are clear vs. intermittent freezing when connected through the TiVo). Has anyone else experienced the same issue and is there a solution? I tried an antenna amplifier but it actually made the problem worse.

- Answer You need to purchase a HD TV antenna such as the LAVA 2605. It works great with my TIVO OTA. The range for the LAVA 2605 HD antenna is more than a hundred miles. Cost is around $58.00 when on sale. It is an online purchase only to the best of my knowledge.

QuestionIf I have more than one Tivo, can they be connected?The standard Tivo's have the capability to "talk" to one another, so what is recorded on one can be watched on the other. Are the OTA designed to do this?

- Answer as far as I've read in some articles as long as they are connected to same network they will be able to see each other and access each others recorded content as well. contact tivo tech support or their website chat support maybe they have a better answer.

QuestionWithout the Guide Subscription, will Tivo Roamio OTA scan for channels and...What I'm wondering, is if this Tivo, without a subscription, will still be able to scan for channels off the antenna and build the channel list for access, at least listing the channel and broadcaster ID and allow, at a minimum, setting up recordings the old way... day, time. If yes, then will it also pull the content info from each channel's data and show what's playing now and for the next few hours at least? For those who know the Channel Master OTA DVRs, they do that without a subscription. In fact, the older Channel Master box no longer has a connection to the guide info they used. So it's more limited, but still pulls the show content info from the channel's data stream. So I wonder if this Tivo would do that. My other question, is with the subscription, is there anyone in or around Buffalo, NY or in zipcodes 14174 or 14131 or 14092 (in that general area). What I'd like to know from anyone who has this box, is if the guide is showing information for the channels from Toronto, Ontario Canada (i.e. 57.1 City TV, 9.1 CTV, 35.1 CTV2 and others). I've talked to Tivo support and the tech did confirm that he does see those as available, but since he's not in this area, he can't confirm that this actually works. I want to get this box this Saturday, but would really like to confirm if those channels are there, besides the channels in and around Buffalo. Thanks in advance for any confirmation :)

- Answer although late reply I'd like to do so..... as far as channel lineup its based by your actual antenna. The better your antenna and range of it will define what channels or areas you can pick it up from. A lower end budget antenna can only go so far compared to an longer range possible more $$$ type of antenna but it will bring in more channels as it will have more range. That's the key part of it. As far as without a subscription chances are you wont get guide data much less record or playback or use any other features as far as I've read ... so double check on this if anything but as far as the channels scanned and available it will depend on the antenna itself range and what directions its pulling the channels from one direction bi-direction multi direction etc... more directions more chance it finds more channels.

- Answer Depends on what you mean exactly. All TiVos since the Series 2 let you copy shows off of them, although the software to do that used to be free, and I think now costs something (unless you already have it). I watch shows from my Tivo both on Windows 10, and my Windows Phone all the time.

- Answer Not directly. It only has an HDMI jack for the TV, but you can buy small converters to do this. They range from $10 to $35.

QuestionCan I add this toi my existing service to repalce a box that is failing?I was quoted 4 times this price by Tivo for the same unit. DO I need to get another service for this to work or can I use my existing service and use this as a repalcemnt box for the one that failed?

- Answer This will not accept a cable box card. It is for over the air broadcast TV only. It only has an antenna connection. I "cut the cord" to cable about 2 years ago and have never looked back. I bought this and a Roku 3 and have all the programming I could ever want to watch (with Netflix and Hulu Plus subscriptions). I went from paying $105 a month for cable to paying around $30 for my current combination.

QuestionHow does it work with the Insignia Roku TVI am confused. Is the TIVO a recording device or an antenna? I am in need of a device to record local programs received through an OTA antenna. I have the Insignia Smart Tv that has a Roku box built in. I watch both streaming via wifi and OTA via antenna and watch mainly the PBS channel which I access both through the streaming ROKU PBS station as well as OTA on my local PBS channel with an enhanced antenna. Problem is that I still cannot watch my favorite shows because (a ) the streaming on the ROKU PBS channel is too delayed (ie. I don't want to watch the PBS NEWS HOUR a day late) and (b) I am not home when the shows are broadcast over the air. Can I use a TIVO to record my show off of the over the air broadcast ? If so, does the TIVO obviate the need for the good antenna that I am using for OTA channels so that I can use that antenna on another tv?

- Answer Ldfbze's answer is nonsense. This "OTA" (over the air) unit in fact ONLY works with over the air broadcasts, not cable. (Most other Tivos work with over the air or cable, some only work with cable.) As others mentioned, you hook up your antenna to the Tivo, and then the Tivo to the TV through HDMI.

- Answer recording is only for anything dealing with the guide information such as live tv which can be accessed recorded and played back multiple times until you delete it or it deletes itself depending on setup ... streaming can't be recorded it can only be accessed and viewed that's all.
