I was skeptical going from a separate modem and router to a combo, but I'm glad I made the switch. My old combo didn't support Comcast's new speeds, so I needed to upgrade to realize the full benefits. My 5GHz wireless d/l speed went from about 100Mb/s to over 300Mb/s. Wired stayed the same, but probably because I have an outdated ethernet cable. As far as range, I live in a three story townhome. Router goes on the top floor and has no problem reaching the bottom (third) floor. Remember, internet signal is like an umbrella - it branches out and down. Overall, extremely happy with this deal of the day (99.99)! Also, make sure you rename your SSID and use the same passwords to match your old settings so your devices will reconnect seamlessly. Download and activate through the app, then get on your PC to set up your SSID/passwords. Don't forget to change the default admin password as well!

So this router modem combo is only decent. It does not pull 1 gig speeds as advertised. I set it up correctly and plugged it in the most efficient way. Brand new Ethernet cable. I have the 1 gig plan with suddenlink and when I ran a speed test, I was only grabbing like a maximum of 480 mbps download, 25 mbps upload and a ping of 14. I had a suddenlink tech come out yesterday to find out what was wrong. On his end nothing was wrong and he said I should be pulling at least 750-800 mbps on download and that a lot of router modem combos and just routers and modems separately that advertise 1 gig speeds, dont usually pull speeds like that. Now it could just be a faulty model that I have but nothing seems wrong with it other than the fact that I’m averaging 390-430 mbps download when I’m paying for 1 gig speeds. That’s really all I have to say!

    Constantly drops signal

    Posted .

This worked great at first then after a few months became unreliable. Xfinity came out twice checked everything and replaced outside cables. Finally they said it’s got to be the modem. Arris customer support was very nice but the factory reset didn’t work. I work from home and the internet does 4 or more times per work day plus at night is unacceptable. I will be replacing this! I got this in January 2021 and problems started in July 2021. Now it’s HIGHLY unreliable.

In trying to get a grip on unnecessary expenses I decided to buy a modem & return $10/month one to WOW. The Arris got decent or better customer reviews so I bought. Before installing I looked further at tech reviews & found the warning against buying a product labeled “with Intel” - can’t remember what issue was but without opening returned Arris, bought Motorola.

When Comcast hooked up my service, some devices worked and some didn't. Comcast couldn't figure it out. I had a 3-way call with Comcast and Arris tech service reps. Arris guy figured it out. Something on Comcast's end wasn't sending the signal right. They are supposed to have an IPv4 and an IPv6, but the IPv4 wasn't working. Once the Arris guy confirmed it at a site called IPDV6-test.com, we finally got it resolved. Was very impressed with the competence of the Arris tech service guy!

I called Comcast to double-check this modem and model will work with Comcast. "Yes". Only concern is it new? They can't take a previous customer off that internet acct to activate modem without that user calling in and going through closing process. Buy New Only! Within 10 minutes it was going. Took rented modem into Comcast the next morning. They said call in (or Chat) to have the modem activated with specifics on the account. Did that through chat. It took 5 minutes and now on Xfinity acct can see the exact modem and you can do things with it through Xfinity.com. IT'S FASTER THAN THE RENTED MODEM I had from Xfinity! Update: It uses less 'data usage'!!!!!

Best Buy is offering me points for completing a review, but this does not affect my rating of this product. I had to replace my previous modem because of an electrical storm knocking out that modem. So I had to replace my modem quickly. I bought this and after setting it up and getting it running, I have not had any issues that would upset me. It works perfectly well so far. A modem is not something I want to spend time with - once I get it up and running - I don't want to think about it - it should be like electricity - it just should work all the time. So far, that is what I have experienced except for one day when I had to turn it on and off. Not unusual as I have had other modems and had to do the same thing every once in a while. If something really goes wrong - I will try to post an update in the comments to this review. But so far - I am very happy with this purchase.

    One small and mighty modem/router

I went into Best Buy to exchange a Netgear cable modem I purchased. I needed a modem/router combo. I did some research online and also searched up which modem/router combo would be compatible with Xfinity internet. I stumbled upon the Arris Surfboard SBG10 modem/router combo. I was not familiar with the Arris brand. I saw on best buy.com that it had great reviews. The setup was very easy and Xfinity got it configured and added on their end in no time. I love how it offers 5ghz wireless connection as well for faster speeds. I had all my devices connected in no time!! I would definitely recommend the Arris SBG10 to anyone.

Love this router/modem. I was tired of paying a month fee through Xfinity since we had regular connection issues. We were told several times that we couldn't use a store bought modem but we found out through a friend that that was a lie. We haven't had one issue with our connection since buying this dual-band router with modem.

Excellent product! Just had Xfinity internet connection. Will have a substantial savings by purchasing a modem/router vs renting the equipment thru Xfinity. Excellent customer service. Best buy salesperson was very knowledgeable on the unit. Very easy to install. Internet worked without any issues. At first, Xfinity wanted to send a technician to install the unit. The charge was $99. I insisted that was not necessary. Highly recommend.

If you are tired of paying those Comcast equipment rental fee's look no further. I purchased this and it was easy to setup and had me skipping all the way back to Comcast to return their equipment knowing I'll be saving money monthly. I'd recommend getting a battery backup that way if you happen to live in an area where power outages are frequent you will have no down time.

I'm not technical. I plugged it in and connected the cable from Spectrum. Called them and gave them the info they asked. Five minutes later it was working and has been working ever since. I had 2 Arris that died (two different locations) after about 4-5 years. I don't know if this is normal, but I hope it will live until I decide to upgrade and not have it forced on me.

    Tricky to set up

    |
    Posted .

This is the second Surfboard I have had. The first one was plug and play. This one very much was not. Confusing. I had to replace the first one because it died, and I did not have internet access. Without internet access, it was virtually impossible to set up. Adding to the confusion was in the instructions it said that you had to download a phone app to install. When I called for tech help, I was informed that THIS version of the surfboard did NOT require that app. So after two phone calls, and a lot of frustration in set up, it is working well.
