Customers are saying

Customers regard the PIXMA MegaTank G7020's print quality and ease of use very favorably, with many praising its sharp prints and straightforward setup. The wireless functionality and compact size are also frequently cited as positive aspects. However, some users find the small, unlit display and control panel challenging to use, and a few note that the printer can be somewhat noisy during operation.

Very slow reaction speed and print speed. No back light on the display screen so you can hardly see what the screen displays. Color is not bad and ink is very affordable.

I bought this printer because I don't print a lot of things. The ink in my previous ink jet printer was constantly drying out and I was always having to buy new cartridges. I was hoping this tank style printer would solve that issue. Unfortunately it did not, the print heads still dry out and every time I want to print something (once every 1-2 months) I have to go through the process of deep cleaning the printer. I guess I am saving myself time and money so I don't have to buy and replace the cartridge every time I print, but it still seems a big waste of time and paper. It's been 30 minutes and 4 pieces of paper and finally I am able to print something successfully. This printer is very big and you need space on all sides of it for various trays to open and close. The display is difficult to read (I need to grab a flashlight). It's very slow to start up and print, and beeps a lot. Overall I would not recommend this printer. The ink tank idea is great, but this product is not.

Don't Buy if you need to scan or copy with ADF

I purchased this printer to replace an older model Canon MX870 which had served me very well for many years. That printer had features similar to this one, but used cartridge ink. Ink cost and availability were becoming an issue so I looked for what I thought would be a suitable replacement, and found this model. I can't say I'm particularly pleased with this printer. The ADF on this printer is terrible. VERY picky about paper, low capacity, and only single sided scanning. Some brands of standard 24lb paper only jam occasionally, other brands of 24lb paper jam constantly. The uncertainty makes it not worth using. I only scan using the platen now. The display is difficult to see unless the lighting in the area is very good, and the menu isn't very intuitive (I shouldn't have to research that you must turn off automatic "Copy Intensity" to copy using the ADF). B&W printing looks good, and color print quality is fine for home office type printing. Photo print quality is acceptable on appropriate paper, but that's not really the aim of this printer. The waste ink tank on this printer is not replaceable, so the printer will become e-waste when it's full. YMMV will vary as to when that day comes. Given my experience with this printer, I probably won't be replacing it with another similar Canon unless I can be certain these shortcomings are addressed in newer models.

    Cannon printer G7020 Assement

I'm going to be honest here and give an unbiased rating. I have had my fair share of printers... I have the Epson 15000, Epson 8550, BrotherJ5855JW, Brother LaserJet, HP printers (3), and even 2 Officejet portable printers. This ranks third from the bottom. This is not a printer for those who are not tech savvy because it has issues that might exceed your know-how to fix. The main issue I have with this printer is 1. For the amount you pay it should have a touch screen that is easy to read.. with tax this thing runs close to 400 dollars and it has a basic screen up front that you have to use buttons to move around with. 2. It does not go into stand-by.. meaning you have to turn the printer on every time you want to use it unless it has been not too long since you last used it. For those who like to leave theirs alone for extended periods and know it is just waiting for a command to print the next paper this will disappoint you. 3. If the screen you see with the buttons is titled out at a 45-degree angle it will not work. You must tilt the screen out for it to work. 4. It needs warm-up time.. if you forget to turn it on before you print you could be waiting up to 5 minutes for the thing to print a page.. it will display printing on the screen but as nothing happens for about 5 minutes then it will print.. if you like to just print and go this will give you issues. 5. It does not have high-speed printing.. for the amount this thing costs you would think it would spit out pages like a demon...umm nope.. it just prints at the same speed as any other printer I am aware of. The only pro I have been able to find so far is it comes with lots of ink and it seems to print nicely on photo paper... Because Cannon has such a great reputation for photos and stuff people will buy this (like me) expecting much from this printer. I am not saying you shouldn't but this printer I have only given you the facts about this so you can make an informed decision But I can say that after having over 15 printers from different brands the price of the printer seems to not match the expectations. the things they need to address 1. Printer can enter standby mode indefinitely waiting for a print command 2. Don't need to tilt the display to use the printer.. mine is on a shelf equal to my eyes so I have to get on a stool to see what is happening when I tilt the display 3. For this much money HAVE A TOUCH SCREEN

I've had this printer for almost a year now so I think I can give it a fair review. First print quality and speed. It prints and you can read it and if speed isn't an issue you're good, but if you want to get done today this isn't the printer for you. The printer also has a scanning function or at least it is advertised as being able to scan. Scanning quality is poor and speed is even worse than the print function. Speaking of functions I keep a flashlight handy for when I need to try to change a setting. The display screen is so small and hard to read that it generally just isn't worth the effort to try to change. Paper tray is flimsy and thus hard to insert without getting it in a bind. On the plus side it does seem to be easy on ink but even there the system to load the ink wells seems a little like it could become a genuine mess with very little effort. I also print envelopes with this printer and due to the speed at which it prints the envelope I have found it is a good idea to set the postage date for the next day. I work from home and have for many years and I was in the corporate world before that and this is without a doubt the slowest printer I have ever encountered.

    Pay for your ink savings!

This printer functions adequately, have not had any major issues - other than it does not have a web interface for performing print/scan functions. The big benefit of this printer is the large capacity ink wells - over time they should save money on ink. However, as a printer, it's functionality is not on par with other printers in this price range. It prints extremely slow, has mediocre web interface, and is built pretty cheaply. The buyer is paying a premium for a mediocre printer in order to offset the premium for ink cartridges - essentially paying ahead for the ink cartridges you plan to save (which means no real savings in life cycle costs for the printer). It works, but, I'd rather have a more robust printer that is in line with the $375 price tag. My $80 HP 6970 printer performs better, faster, has more functionality, but, eats cartridges. So, if you want to save on ink, this printer will do it, but, at an up-front premium that erases any ink savings.

    Good photo printer bad All-In-One

This prints excellent color photos with the right photo paper. And, a little patience in getting the printer settings just right. The MegaTank option makes ink much more affordable than using cartridges. The biggest drawback to using this as a photo printer is that the largest print size is legal paper size, it might be worth buying a printer that handles larger size prints. The cons: as an All-In-One printer it doesn't cut it. The scanning functions are slow and software is obsolete, paper jams, it's always dropping off-line, cryptic error messages abound and the tiny LCD reader is impossible to read in low light and is right out of the 1980's.

I will never buy another Canon printer again. It does produce excellent prints. And cost per page should be low as it is a tank printer. But I have come to hate it because of the software that runs it. 1} It turns itself off. So instead of pressing print and then going to retrieve the printout, I have to go to the printer to turn it on. 2} the scanner software is far more complicated than it needs to be. 3} mechanically, it's too finicky, especially when feeding paper in the back.

Love that the ink lasts a very long time. It copies fine but scanner is a piece of crap. It barely remembers one page most of the time but usually sends an error message. If I have multile pages to scan it takes 15-20 minutes having to rescan and rescan until it finally gets it.

    Slowest printer I've ever owned

This is by far the slowest printer I have ever owned. Well, I can think of one exception. I had a printer once upon a time that worked like a Selectric typewriter with the ball of letters that it would print. But beyond that, even my dot matrix printers did better. It is very slow to start a print. It can literally take several minutes for some of the prints to even begin. Folks, at least as important as any physical printer that you might ever buy are the drivers that run it. And apparently Canon's aren't very good. So why did I give it 2 stars? I bought this printer because it had ink tanks. That much about it at least is very good. But I think I might look for my favorite brand to produce an ink tank printer for my next printer purchase. As frustrating as this Canon printer has been, that might be sooner rather than later.

The print quality is fine, but the printer display screen is terrible. I had a Canon pinter I bought in 2009 and the screen was much better than this one. This one is not even back lit and it's very small, so the messages scroll across rather quickly. If you have any kind of visual challenge, do not get this printer!

I absolutely loved this printer. Very efficient on ink and cheap refills, large main papertray and a second paper tray. Great color printing. The LCD display is quite difficult to operate and connection with airprint from a phone only worked if using the Canon app. Well, now that I had the printer for 1 1/2 years it seems that the printhead is damaged. Of course the warranty is now expired. Every time I print I can hear banging noises and I continue to get error messages and continue to have to restart. Very disappointed that I now have to shop for a new printer again.

I wish I liked this printer. I ended up returning it. I love the Mega Tank system. However, this printer had to be returned for two reasons - 1- No speed dials or quick buttons or address book. The thing that I do most with the printer is send myself scans to my email. My old Lexmark printer, I could scan to different email adresses. Push the address in my touch screen the address book and walk away. I have my work email, personal, my wife, etc.. This printer only lets you scan to Outlook from a computer that must be on to accept the scan. So, you need to be at your computer open the Outlook and request a scan to Outlook for it work. You have to load the software in everyone's computer who you want to scan to and train them how to request a scan from the device. Bring your laptop to the printer. It is going backwards in technology. 2/ the interface is terrible. I spent half an hour trying to navigate with the arrows to scan on two sides. It is not touch screen and the navigation and instructions in the tiny screen are not intuitive. No address book. I know if I kept this - my family members would need me to help them do anything except the most basic printing. The quality of the printing was just fine. The interface - terrible..

Frustrating to set up, frustrating to use. Overly complicated, control panel not intuitive. Prints very slowly. Hoping I get used to it over time, and its inadequacies are offset by savings on toner. Really liked my old HP printer/scanner, but the toner costs were insane.

Terrible ! Had been a problem since purchase! I only had it a couple years, barely used it but EVERY time I did I’ve encountered error messages ! Paper jam, wrong paper slot, not printing! Most times I could never figure out what the matter was! Alas, I purchased a laser jet printer! MUCH BETTER!!

Devil of a time getting it setup, but part of that is on me as I am only half tech savvy; I finally prevailed. Never loved the color prints when compared to my old Epson, but I hear that is a common complaint for tank printers. Biggest complaint is that after a year and a half, color printing no longer works satisfactorily - I mean flesh tone is now green and red prints fuchsia. Looked online and found this is a known problem with this printer and cannot be fixed. Canon recommends a new printer. I should have bought the Geek Squad Protection. I am going back with an Epson photo printer and keeping this one around to print documents.
