They couldn't recover my data. Well actually they could for $1400 more. So I decided to go without. Otherwise it's a nice service that Best Buy offers.

Old hard drive was corrupted. They charge a lot to recover old data but if it is not backed up then you pay the piper.

Geek Squad was able to send my hard drive off and they were able to recover pretty much all of my data!

I had an external drive that failed with 2.2 Terabytes of memory used up on it (out of 3 tb available). I shipped it off to be repaired. I was told at the desk when I dropped it off that if I didn't get a full recovery with every file working, I would be refunded $450. This seemed fair, so I reluctantly paid the $1750 it cost to have it repaired for a level 3 recovery (On top of all this, I'm a college student, so this was a full month's pay). I was told that I would have the drive back within 30 days. I was barely contacted about it, customer service cut my call off nearly every time I called, and I finally had the service completed after 45 days. Only 600GB of files were recovered, and 150 gb were deemed unusable. As it was described to me when I dropped it off, I should have gotten $450 back, but unfortunately, the guy at the store didn't know what he was talking about. What the rule actually is that if I go through the process, there is 1300 Non-Refundable, and if I want nothing back after that point, I can get 450 back. If he had explained this correctly then I could have paid the next three months of rent with the amount of money I spent. Or I could have had money off of my student debt, but instead I got less than 1/4 of my original content back.

The Geek Squad did a Great job retrieving our precious memories and data. Reasonably fast and fair cost!

Data recovery costs pretty high for something they have basically recovered. Invented me to get drive returned and shop around. Immediately offered $200 savings from local recovery company.
