The agents I talked to throughout the process seemed knowledgeable and friendly. But in order to get the data off my hard drive, I was gonna have to pay $1,500, which is something most people can't afford, and certainly not an unemployed full-time college student like myself. I give huge props for them refunding part of my deposit (obviously they couldn't refund it all, 'cause they did ship it there and back and tried to recover what they could). They were understanding when I explained my reasons for turning down the Level 3 recovery, and they shipped back both the dead hard drive and the replacement I had purchased. They said to just send it back in when I can actually afford Level 3, and I do plan to do so because I have precious items on that hard drive that I hope they can extract using their extra-advanced methods.

I am so relieved! It took a little longer than I thought, but basically getting all of my (30 years!) worth of data back. I can't tell you how much that means, though most anyone would totally get it! A huge THANK YOU to the Geek Squad!

My computer had a heart attack and died. With the recommendation of the staff I got a great replacement. They recovered all my data even though the hard drive was corrupted

Still pending but they are extracting data for me so that's good news for me after a failed HD left us helpless with pictures on the drive. Taking awhile but the people are nice.

    Garbage Data Recovery

I checked in my camera’s SD card for the store to recover the accidently formatted data. And I purchased the membership option because level 1 recovery was included in the benefits. Before than I already attempted try to recover the photos and video by myself using free software, most of the photos were recovered but the videos were corrupted. Since the videos are important to me, I sent in the SD card to BestBuy and hope they’ll recover it. However, after two days when it is time to pick up the SD card I brought my laptop to check the files, the videos were all unplayable and some of the photos were corrupted. I basically paid the $200 just to get the same results that I couldve done myself. So I proceeded to call to cancel the membership immediately after checking the files. The when I told the customer service representative to cancel my membership, he told me to hold and cancelled it without telling me how much I’ll get back. In the end, he told me that I’ll only get $47 refund for cancellation. I told him I would rather keep the membership if that’s the only amount I could get back, he said he couldn’t cancel the refund because of company policy. So I basically paid $169 ($216 taxed - $47) for a garbage recovery service that I literally could do using free softwares. Such a disappointment. I would not recommend for anyone to this service.

My external hard drive failed but the GS agent want able to recover the data in store. He recommended mailing it out for a level 2 recovery. Even though they were only able to recover about 25GB of data or of the 1TB external drive the process was seamless.

Geek Squad was able to recover all of the data on my damaged drive. However, getting there was a struggle. Three weeks after I dropped the unit off before anyone contacted me about the unit and another two weeks before they recovered the data. They did a nice job on the recovery and placing i on a new drive, so all is OK.

I had a HDD drive crash on me and I had about 10,000 pictures stored on it. I took it to Best Buy Geek Squad and they could not get it start up, the same problem I had. They sent it out to their recovery lab and recovered about 75% of my photos. After the recovery process they put my recovered photos on a new WD easystore drive. I will never get the photos that I lost back, but I appreciate Geek Squad doing a fine job on recovering the ones that could be saved. Thanks Squad! Also always back up your photos and data on multiple drives. Don't learn the hard way like I did.

I was kept updated during the data recovery process. The recovery team received and analyzed my hard drive which took about 2 weeks. Once I approved going forward with the data recovery, I was told it would take 6-8 weeks to complete. It actually only took another 2 weeks. Fortunately, the damage was minimal and nearly 100% of my data was recovered. The missing files were unimportant.

I am kind of disappointed that they deemed my external hard drive unrecoverable because there is no water damage or any major broken pieces. the drive was kicked/slid across the floor. The control arm was not working properly so it couldn't read the discs. I don't understand how not a single thing was recovered. I'm definitely getting a second opinion. The Geek squad in the store told me that is would be no more than $600 and I paid $1940 something and he also told me it would not be that hard of a fix the way i described what was going on. then i get an email saying the complete opposite. Also a customer service rep said i made a reservation on the 10th to pick up the drive but nobody ever called me to let me know the drive was back at the store ready for pick up..

    Successfully recovered my data

My hard drive crashed recently and was hoping to recover pictures and other files that I should have backed up. I had gone to another place but the price point was way higher (over $1,000) and decided to take my dead hard drive to Geek Squad. They told me they could send it to their special data recovery facility where they would evaluate if they could recover my data. Thankfully they were able to and at a price that was probably less than half what I would have paid elsewhere. But be forewarned, this really depends on damaged your hard drive is. If it happened to get badly damaged perhaps in an power surge or anything like that where your hard drive components got fried it may either be a) unrecoverable or b) very expensive to get your data retrieved. So this is on a case by case basis. However, my review is based on Geek Squad successfully being able to recover the data under my circumstances, thank you!

My hard drive that crashed was sent away for a non-local Geek Squad to attempt data and file recovery. They were able to recover much of what I had lost, but communication with them was VERY DIFFICULT. I received an e-mail message and attempted to call in response - could never talk with a live person after three attempts. I did leave a message and received a response more than 24 hours later. An additional device was needed for storage and when this was returned to me there was no users manual or further instructions. They were able to recover much of my data, but the long wait and poor communication were frustrating.

Data recovery services wasn’t as expected . Also I didn’t get enough time to pay for the services to fix the hard drive which I only ask for three additional days to be able to do she way. Store didn’t reach out tell me they couldn’t fix the hard drive and had the process on hold for a week until I called. Then I had to go to the store and basically make them send the hard drive to a specialist. Before then they tried to upsale me to pay for the membership instead of buying just the data recover from there third party.

While the personal data that was recovered will ease some emotional stress on myself and my wife, the price for the recovery was a little overboard. But, I guess overall, who can put a price on memories? I'm satisfied with the outcome.
