As a father of 2 (3 if you count my elderly parent with dementia) with 2 long hair cats this robot is amazing. You set up the app after charging it and it does a scan of the house and then you can either manually tell it to clean specific rooms or set a schedule and it will just work its magic while you are gone for the day. With long hair pets you do need to remove the bottom roller every 1-2 weeks to take out the ring of fluff but it is well worth the purchase and it takes away one of my chores earning me a small amount of time that would have been spent on my adulting list.

When it works it’s great but it’s constantly stopping due to thinking it’s hit an obstacle or on uneven ground. It also constantly shows as disconnected from the internet so I’m unable to use the app to control it and mostly have to just press clean manually and hope it makes it way all over the house. It also will typically end up in random places that I wouldn’t even need or want cleaned and then majority of the house doesn’t get cleaned. I got it on Black Friday during a big sale so for that reason I’m keeping it but I would absolutely never have paid original price (I believe like $300+).

After our first robot vac experience (Bobsweep model, which was quickly returned), I was not sure what to expect. However, based on previous Shark product experience, we decided to give this one a try. I am certainly glad that we did!
One of the things that made this model attractive was the LIDAR system, which keeps it from being a simple "bump and go" robot vac. The initial "explore" run that it makes is pretty cool. It maps out the entire area that it needs to clean, and when this is complete, the map is sent to the app on your phone for approval. You can divide it into zones, that way you can only hit high traffic areas, or the entire area each time that it starts to clean. This little vac drove around for about 20 minutes and did a good job of mapping it all out.
Second thing that impressed me was how quiet this unit is. MUCH quieter than our previous robot vac. It can run in the room while you watch tv, and you'll only have to turn the volume up on the tv a bit. Even on the super suction mode, it's still very quiet.
We have 3 dogs (1 being a Golden Retriever), so we wondered how well it would really clean our floors. Our Dyson vacuum picks up a ton of dog hair, and we use it about twice a week. The first time I opened the dust bin to empty the Shark (after 2 cleanings), I was surprised to see just how much dust and fur it had picked up! Color me impressed!
The app is quite easy to use, and easy to navigate. Love that you can set up a schedule quickly and easily. The unit is so quiet, you can even set it up to clean in the middle of the night.
Connects well with Amazon Alexa. Easy to start using voice commands. Just a nice feature to have.
Time will tell how long this lasts, but I'm very impressed with the unit so far!

The Shark AV2001 AI Robot Vacuum is a step up from their earlier models thanks to the improved LIDAR navigation. However you have to be VERY patient with the Shark Clean app used to interact with the machine!
Unpacking, assembling and setting up the charging dock are all straight forward. But you have to download and install their app to communicate with the vacuum and that's where things got wonky. Long story short - be CERTAIN that you are setting this thing up on the 2.4GHz channels of your home wireless and be prepared to perform the process more than once! It took me 4 attempts including having to delete the robot and start all over at one point. I still don't know exactly what I did differently to finally get it to work!
Once the software is happy the initial mapping (called "exploring" can begin). This actually went pretty smoothly even though I had to rescue the robot on one occasion when it got high-centered on a sloped table leg.
The actual cleaning is good but you need to set your expectations. This thing is really designed to do periodic spot cleaning. It is NOT a replacement for regular vacuum cleaner. Also - be aware, these devices do not recognize or avoid things like spilled liquids or pet accidents!!!
The robot can almost make a complete pass on a full charge but needs to dock and charge up in order to make a shorter, second pass around my rooms to finish.
In conclusion - this is a good product at a reasonable price. Just be sure to set your expectations accordingly and be prepared to have your patience tested during setup.

Best in Class!

The Shark AV2001 is the 4th robot vacuum I’ve owned. Thankfully, this one might be the best of the bunch. Fantastic vacuum performance, matched only by its solid Lidar navigation.
Hands down one of the best vacuums at navigating the home. It had no problems mapping, avoiding obstacles and terrains. I was quickly able to map, set no go zones and divide the spaces into rooms/areas. Solid app and navigation – one of the best. Being able to define rooms is an absolute must and the AV2001 really delivers.
I’ve seen some mixed reviews regarding cleaning performance, but in my experience it’s best in class. For daily pet hair and dirt, it does and excellent job. The dust bin is an adequate size the battery is capable. All in all, the cleaning power is more than enough for rugs, hardwood, tile and more.
I was truly amazed by it’s cleaning patterns. With multiple cleaning modes – you could really tell the different levels of thoroughness. A deep clean for spots and a regular clean for the whole house. In general, the unit would outline a space and make sequential row passes over the area. Fantastic experience!

My new Shark robot vacuum helps me out around the house when I don’t have time to do a deep vacuuming, keeps the floors & carpet looking tidy. It took me a few times to get the wifi to connect, I needed to set up a guest acct cause it couldn’t connect to my regular one, once that was set up it was a breeze from there did the house mapping of the rooms I wanted cleaned. You can name your shark & I loved that you can set a schedule for vacuuming. I did have to choose a new housing/docking spot it’s best on hard uncarpeted surface so it rocks & charges properly. We have a fawn pug with dark carpet he sheds like crazy it did vacuum up a decent amount of fur I have it vacuum twice a day to try to keep it at a minimal. Pretty happy with it so far

Nice Robot Marred By Horrible Software
|

Unfortunately, the AV2001 AI Robot is a decent robot vacuum marred by software and app glitches. If you can look past an Android app that is completely broken as of this review and an Apple app experience that is "buggy, but functional", then what you have is a decent little robot vacuum that is gentle on furniture and can easily map and navigate around household obstacles. I wish I could wholeheartedly recommend it, but this was the worst set up and app experience I have had with any robot vacuum.
Setup:
I'm not a stranger to robot vacuums. My very first robot vacuum was a Shark. I called it "Baby Shark". It didn't have the features of navigation or mapping. So, I was excited to see what Shark has been up to in terms of robot vacuums. Unfortunately, set up for this robot vacuum was the worst I have experienced. The Android app never worked properly. I was finally able to get it to work when I used Apple devices. But on my Samsung Galaxy devices and other Google based devices, the Shark App was broken. A quick glance on the Google Play store showed I wasn't alone in my struggles with the app.
On Android, the application would glitch out when running a mapping run. Either the map would come back blank, or the app would just be stuck on processing. When I reset the vacuum and set it up with an iPhone, the initial mapping run worked perfectly.
The Upside:
The AV2001 has a large waste bin. It probably has the biggest waste bin of any robot vacuum I have owned or tested up to this point. Also, the side brushes move slower and, in my opinion, did a better job of scooping up debris.
I'm always nervous with new robot vacuums with how they will handle obstacles like tables, chairs, and other objects on the floor. I was very impressed with how gentle the AV2001 was with household items and how well it navigated around house obstacles.
As a vacuum, the Shark AV2001 did a good job picking up debris. It's not the fastest robot vacuum, but it seemed to be thorough.
On iPhone, the application does sport several features such as the ability to set up rooms, spot clean, target heavy traffic areas, change suction levels. For the most part, those features worked well. The map created in the mapping run wasn't the best map, but it was detailed enough that I could make out areas that I specifically wanted the vacuum to target.
Other robot vacuum manufacturers will have the app tell you either via text or with a dot you can track on the map where the vacuum is. The AV2001 doesn't do that. It has a locate button you can press from within the app to get an audible response. I do prefer maps that track coverage. I know that's a nitpick, but it's a nice feature to know where your vacuum has been and how much more it has to cover and I wish Shark had a similar feature.
Bugs, Bugs, Bugs:
As said before, the app on Android is just broken. On all apps, the robot never reports that it charges to 100%. For some reason, even after charging all night, it won't show higher than 90% charge. The app tries to segment the house and create numbered locations based on its initial run, those locations overlap, have gaps, and need to totally be redone. On iPhone, those changes are a bit cumbersome, but it worked.
Even when docked, the Android App would occasionally show the vacuum as still cleaning. And if I tried to issue a command, the app would just return an error message. At this point, all I can do from the android app is view the
Battery Life: I didn't get great battery life. On a "full / 90% full" charge, I was only able to get a handful of rooms cleaned before the Robot had to return to the docking station to charge. Now, you can set up the vacuum to continue cleaning after it has reached sufficient charge, but it takes roughly three hours to get up a charge and continue the task.
Conclusion: This vacuum nearly broke me. I was so frustrated with it. It took me three days to get this thing working. As I said above, this isn't my first robot vacuum, but this was easily the worst set up experience with any robot vacuum I have had. I hate giving bad / mediocre reviews. But the experience with Android devices is just broken. This is a decent little robot and I did like it better once it was finally working (on an iPhone and an iPad...). I hope patches for the app and / or a firmware update for the robot fix this. But, as is, it's just such a glitchy experience that I can't really recommend it.

Cleans okay. Bin that holds rubbish is cumbersome to clean since you have to take off 3 screws to clean filter. Will not charge if power switch is OFF. When electricity goes off, the vacuum will start to run unless you turn OFF the power switch every time you use it. Had a hard time connecting to Wi-Fi.
PROS like the flexibility to mark off a zone where you don't want vacuumed. Fairly quiet and does have a setting to return to base to recharge if it doesn't have enough battery to vacuum.

I must admit I was a bit disappointed in this newest version of the Shark Robot vacuum compared to several other Shark Robot vacuums I have owned in the past. But I've come to like it - for the most part.
The most unique quality this Shark Robot has over my previous Robot vacuums is the navigation and mapping out of your home's floor plan. It took me 4 tries to get the floor plan correct - it seems to be very, very dependent on where you locate the base station. Having the base station in any kind of 'tight area' and you'll get a very small floor plan. I moved the base station to our dining room under a large wine hutch and it mapped out the floor plan much better. I also added a couple of high traffic zones which helped a lot (kitchen and entryway)
The cleaning power of this Robot Vacuum is very impressive, especially when you run it in "UTLRACLEAN" mode - which does chew up the battery faster than regular "CLEAN" but it is worth it.
This Robot Vacuum has a better capability than others to handle multiple floor types - we have mostly tile and wood floors, with a few chunky throw rugs and it did a fine job navigating around once the floorpan was defined well.
Overall, I would recommend this vacuum to anyone looking for a decently priced, relatively smart, robot vacuum. The floor plan issues were eventually solved - so give it a chance.

GREAT cleaning performance; glitchy app

This Shark is the third robot vacuum I have owned and I had mediocre expectations. They were partially met. I'll just sum up my experience in a few pros and cons:
PROS
Very good cleaning performance --- doesn't get caught on wires and objects easily
Cleans all pet hair, floor trash etc
Not loud at all; very smooth operation
Comprehensive AI technology - maps my whole living area
-Large waste bin, less "emptying"
CONS
-VERY glitchy and inconsistent app; the Shark constantly "disconnects from the app" for no reason
-The schedule doesn't stay consistent. I set it for a specific time and it still randomly runs
-Battery life isn't clear --- it will be at 90% but then will just "die" and need to be placed back on the dock
Overall --- the cleaning performance is nearly outstanding, but that is only when the issues above are not stopping it from cleaning. For the price point, this item and the corresponding app should really be without such issues. The setup should have been much better but the app was so difficult to use it was more frustrating than anything --- plus I needed to set it up directly next to my router to get it to connect.I hear the Apple app works much better so if you dont have android, you may just be fine

Just arrived today and I am super impressed! The first thing I noticed was the precision - it goes around permanent fixtures like couches and cleans as close as possible to them which is really nice, no missed spots! Has a precise cleaning pattern and it picked up just as much as our upright vacuum in it's first use. The set up on the app was a little complicated and took a bit but it's worth it. We have two dogs and it got up A LOT of hair that was stuck in our carpet. The mapping capability is amazing and is pretty accurate. I am very impressed, I did get it on sale but I feel like it's worth the original retail price for sure. Has the ability to climb over slightly elevated surfaces, too. Charges pretty quick. Has a voice that alerts you to various errors like an obstruction, dust bin not installed properly, or uneven surface. I highly recommend this Shark!
