It did a thorough job of covering every inch it seemed of the apartment but it left a residue on the floors. It didn’t pick up any scuff which is ok but see the pic. Open floor concept with residue was not a good look. I also tried using with just water and same effect.

You need to clean the house to get this thing to work, every once in a while it doesn’t recognizes the mop module, it loses the map and the configurations constantly making it impossible to use without reseting it and reconfiguring it again and again, it gets stuck on 1/4” floor transitions. Save yourself the headaches and keep away from this thing.

The Shark AI Ultra™ 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop is an impressive and versatile home appliance for keeping our floors clean. Setup and Configuration Unboxing and setup of the robot and base are pretty easy with the included Quick Start Guide. While letting the robot get a full charge on the base, I installed the SharkClean® app onto my iPhone. The app guided me through adding the robot, giving it a name (R2), the configuration of Wi-Fi, and registration. I then prepared my floors for exploration by picking up cat toys and cords that could get in the way. After charging, I used the app to tell R2 to explore and make a map of my floors. My floors are a mix of carpeted rooms, wood floors, and throw rugs on wood floors, with a few thresholds. R2 used a half-hour to explore the house. It handled all floor types and thresholds without a problem, then returned to the base. The app notified me exploration was done and asked me to give names to the rooms. In this case, the names are limited to "Room" and a number. After identifying the six rooms, the app asked me to identify the zones with carpets, high-traffic, and no-go zones. Zones can be sized, rotated, and shaped as needed. Time to Clean I selected a carpeted room for the first cleaning and carpet verification. A single tap on the room in the app, then a tap on the CLEAN button, and R2 played a couple of tones as it rolled away from the base. The app displays an estimated time for the cleaning. R2 made two passes over the carpet in the room in under ten minutes and then returned to the base. The base sucked the contents out of R2's dust bin. With this successful first run, I sent R2 off to do the rest of the house. With a little over 800 square feet of floor, halfway through the task, R2 returned to the base to get cleaned out, then returned to finish the job. Emptying the base dust bin is an easy process. The dust bin slides out from the side of the base with a push of the release button on the top of the base. Holding the dust bin over a trash can and pressing a release button on the bottom will drop the lid and empty the contents. The next assignment for R2 was to spot-mop my kitchen floor. The self-empty dust bin in the robot can be removed by squeezing two releases and pulling the container out. I filled the vac & mop dust bin with water to the water line and added the included cleaning solution to the next line. A fill cap clicks tightly into place, and a mop pad slides onto the bottom of the bin. I then inserted the bin into the front of R2 with a secure click. With R2 back on the base, I selected the Spot tab in the app, dragged the floor map to the area I wanted to be mopped, and tapped the ULTRACLEAN button. R2 accepted the assignment and rolled off to clean the floor. For mopping, R2 made two passes over the area - with a full spin and a slight move, and repeated till the entire area was done. It seemed R2 had some difficulty finding its way back to the base. It entered the wrong room and kept bumping against the door. I think it got dizzy from all the spinning. I picked it up, placed it in the room with the base, then selected return to base. R2 complied, and I removed the cloth mop pad for cleaning. Aside from R2 getting confused after mopping, I am happy with the unit and how it cleans the floors. I'm impressed with how it deals with corners and moving around chairs. I still have to deal with stuff a little too big for it to handle, such as cat food pellets, but overall it does a good job. If it gets confused again after the next mopping task, I'll check with Shark support and see if they have a firmware update. Features • LIDAR radar for sensing locations • Self-empty dust bin for dry vacuuming • Vac & mop 2-in-1 dust bin for mopping and vacuuming • Two cloth mop pads • Bottle of VACMOP™ cleaning solution • Removable dust filter in the robot dust bin • Removable self-cleaning brush roll • SharkClean® app for Apple and Android devices • Voice control with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa • Robot battery indicator lights • Base indicator lights • Manual and scheduled cleaning • Classify zones as carpets, high-traffic, no-go • Explore mode for mapping • Map editing • Base docking tower with HEPA filter and removable dust bin • Remote control of the robot with the SharkClean® app

Just didn’t work. I loved it when I bought it. Within few days, it started throwing tantrums. Didn’t do anything. If you select a room start cleaning using app, it will go few feet ahead and then go back to the Deck. When you check in history, you will see a weird map. I exchanged that one for new one. It did the same. All three attached images are from history for same map.

    Feature-packed robot vacuum!

This is my 3rd Shark Robot Vacuum, so I do have some experience using different Shark robot vacuum models. This Shark robot vacuum is the best one I have used yet as it has the most features and does a great job at vacuuming. This vacuum really has all of the features you could ask for, especially with the ability to mop and vacuum at the same time or use it as just a vacuum with auto-emptying capability. I am very happy with this device. It has great suction and is a powerful vacuum, does a good job at vacuuming all throughout rooms, comes with a self-empty bin, and includes an attachment that allows for mopping and vacuuming at the same time. This is my first time using a Shark Robot Vacuum with mopping capability, so I wasn’t sure of what to expect with that feature. This robot did a good job at mopping our kitchen floor. It didn’t use too much water or get the floor too wet and it did a good job at mopping the whole floor. It is also really nice that it vacuums and mops at the same time, so it picks up debris before going over that spot with the mop. I will say that while the mopping feature is a nice feature, it does require more manual work than just emptying a dust bin and cleaning filters on occasion like is the case with the vacuuming. You do have to fill up the mopping attachment with water and cleaning solution and once the mopping is done, you will have to clean the mop pad and empty debris from the vacuuming. When the mopping attachment is in place, the robot cannot empty into the self empty bin. Also, while I think this did do a good job at mopping, if you have anything really stuck onto your floor or hard to get up, you likely would need to apply some pressure to that with a mop to get it up. I did not have anything to test that on, but I would assume that would be the case since this does not apply pressure to the floor like you can with a regular mop. But overall, the mopping function is a great added feature! The most important part to me with this robot vacuum is the vacuuming functionality. This device has great suction for picking up all kinds of debris and it does a great job at covering every part of a room, including under furniture. You can have it vacuum the whole house or it can be sent to specific rooms or even specific spots which is great. The self-emptying bin is also a great feature that I love having. The self-emptying bin has a lot of capacity, so you don’t have to empty it often. It is also easier to get to than having to remove a small dust bin from the robot itself which I had to do with my first Shark robot vacuum. I’m a big fan of the self-emptying feature as it makes this robot very low maintenance and hassle free. The reason why I took off 1 star for this device is because of the Shark app. Throughout my use of Shark robot vacuum’s, I have encountered various bugs and glitches with the app and occasionally with the vacuum’s themselves. Recently, the Shark app would forget my login a few days after last use, so I would have to keep logging in each time I wanted to use it. I think that was fixed in a recent software update though. I have also had the app completely glitch out and lose my home map which required re-mapping my home to fix. Ultimately, I think Shark needs to work on quality control for their app as I have encountered various issues over time that can be frustrating. They do seem to be proactive in fixing issues that I have reported to them, but that still doesn’t take away the frustrations that these issues have caused in multiple instances. I am also not a fan of the way this unit maps in the Shark app. My first Shark robot vacuum would map the house and show rooms as even rectangles. For rooms that had items in the floor or in the way of getting all the way to the wall, the map would show those items but would still show the room as an even rectangle. The map created by this unit is not even. If there is a big piece of furniture on the wall in a room, the robot maps it as if that area where the furniture is isn’t even a part of the room, which is just weird (I have included a screenshot of our home map with white spots circled in red where part of the room is missing due to furniture being there). I wish this would map like my original unit did, it made much more sense and showed rooms as even rectangles which is how it should look. Overall, this is a great robot vacuum and I would recommend it to others. While I have had some issues and glitches experienced with the app recently and in the past, most of the time the main functions for this device work well. It does a great job at vacuuming and the mopping functionality with this device is a great added feature.

One of my favorite things to do is not vacuum, and these past few days I have had the pleasure of using this Shark AI Ultra vacuum to do just that. To be honest, this is my fourth Shark Robot vacuum that I have had and every time they keep improving over the previous generation. The first one I had did not have any smarts, it just bounced around randomly and would eventually clean the entire area somehow. Now we have a model that you can make a map of your house and you can direct it to go somewhere and avoid other places in the app without having to use magnetic boundary strips. Shark has come a long way in that short amount of time, and I am impressed. Still, I think this robot lacks a few features that other brands may have, but I am ok with that. The LIDAR navigation is good, and it will avoid most obstacles that are higher than a few inches, it will still get caught up on shoes or my dogs food bowl. Setting a no-go zone in the app I can avoid the dog bowl, but not shoes since my kids will leave them wherever they happen to take them off, so you do have to be vigilant with picking up small items before setting the little robot off to do its thing. Setting up the robot in the Shark app is very easy and you do have to charge it for a few hours before you can set it off to make a map of the floor plan of your house. The charging station now includes a landing pad that sits under the base and a pad for the robot to rest on. I am not quite sure why Shark has included the landing pad, but you can choose not to use it if you don’t want to. UPDATE: I believe the pad is there so you can keep the robot in mopping mode all the time and the base will protect the floor from the mop pad. Also, in the app you can set the name of your rooms, this allows for you to use google or Alexa to send the robot to clean a room if you use the default names in the app. I was not able to get my robot to be recognized by either device, but my previous Shark IQ robot does work this way. I am reaching out to Shark for assistance with this and I hope to have it resolved. Another feature of the app is to set up high traffic zones and as I mentioned before, the no-go zones to avoid things that the robot may get stuck on. The app does allow for multiple robots which is great for when you have multiple floors in your home, you can just easily toggle between your little guys and send them off. The map also offers a history of cleaning from the last 30 days, and if you dive deeper into those days, you can see an actual map or maps of where the robot went. In the box Shark has included the base station that will hold up to 60 days of dust, a self-empty dust bin (vacuuming), a Vac& Mop dust bin (mopping), an extra side bristle, and two mopping pads that are washable. I have to mention that attaching the mop pad is very cool to do, there is a little plastic channel on the bottom and the mopping pad has a cord on the end that routes in the channel and Velcro will hold the flat part down. The nice feature about the mopping mode, it that it will also vacuum up dust before it mops it, so you don’t have to vacuum beforehand. However, it will not self-empty with the Vac & Mop dust bin on, but it will go back to the docking station and charge facing the opposite direction, so there are two separate points of charging. Another innovative feature of this device is the little “edge clean” feature that is on the left side of the robot, it will do an edge clean after the clean pattern is done for the room and this blows air on your baseboards and is supposed to dislodge dust from there to allow the robot to suck it up. A few odd things I have noted on the cleaning pattern is that it will not clean along the wall that the base station is placed on. No matter what I did, reset robot, remapped the area, etc., it would not go within about a foot from the wall that the base was against. Every other room it will clean the full room. Another thing was the cleaning pattern was sometimes random and the robot would do part of the room, then dart diagonally across the room and start cleaning in a different area. This did not affect the overall performance since the entire room will get cleaned, just an odd thing I noticed. The mopping feature is nice to have with my hard floors. Shark includes a small bottle of the mop cleaning solution, and you fill up the water reservoir to the water line and the remainder of the solution. As the robot moves with the mopping pad on it will use sonic mopping that moves the pad back and forth to help scrub the floor. I found that this works fairly well but will not get stuck on gunk from the floor, but I don’t think anything automated out there would either. Cleaning the mop pad is easy, I just hand wash it and it comes out clean, but you can toss it in the washing machine if you like since they are durable. Right now, I keep this robot strictly in mopping mode, and I let it do its thing every day on my floors. This has helped greatly with keeping the floors clean between the two kids and two dogs. I have not noticed a huge hair build up on the brush roll, but a few pieces here and there get tangled on it. Shark does make some good products and in the past the customer service has been great so you can buy with confidence.

We’re sorry to hear that it hasn’t been meeting your expectations, especially with the clogging, mopping performance, and difficulties handling pet hair. This is not the experience we aim to provide for our customers.

To improve its performance, we recommend ensuring the brush is securely attached and that the filters, dustbin, and brush rollers are cleaned regularly. For optimal mopping results, using the appropriate amount of cleaning solution and checking the mop attachment for proper alignment can make a significant difference.

Today we're reviewing the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop with XL HEPA Self-Empty Base and Matrix Clean. What we like: - Self-emptying! The robot has a tiny debris collection bin. Once filled, the machine travels back to its charging station and empties itself into a larger bin. This allows you to run the robot several times before you have to dump anything into the trash. - Cartography The first time you let this vacuum loose it makes a map of your living space. You can delineate different rooms and spaces, such as living room or den. After you've created all your rooms, you can send the robot to clean only the rooms you choose. In addition, you can create no-go zones. These areas will be off-limits for the vacuum. This is great for avoiding rugs when using the mop function or to avoid a tangle of audio-visual cables behind the tv stand. - Mopping Not only does the robot vacuum, but it can also mop! The mop attachment has a reservoir to hold water/cleaning solution. There's also a washable pad that acts as the mop. I admit that I was skeptical about this feature at first, but it actually does a pretty good job. What we think could improve: - Mopping There's a small price for utilizing this feature. You have to switch out the dust collecting compartment with the mopping compartment. This presents the issue of where to store one when using the other. Our mop-able floor areas do not make up a lot of square footage, so after two whole-house moppings we still have more than half a reservoir of cleaning solution. Also, while the mop attachment does have a dust collection bin, it is not possible for the dock to empty the contents of the bin. It must be emptied by hand. This process is a little clumsy. Expect to get your hands wet and dirty from the mop pad and the likelihood a good portion of the dirt/dust/hair will miss the trash can. We thought it would've been nice if a tiny brush was tucked away to help wipe out the collection bin. - The App We find the app to be a little cumbersome at times. Making no-go zones for rugs is simple enough, but pinpointing the exact spot for a small rug, like a doormat or small area rug at the kitchen sink, can be difficult. We realized we didn't have one set properly and somehow deleted the whole map trying to edit the rug's location. We would also like a little more control over the robot once it starts a cleaning session. Say you tell it to clean only the living room. It finishes to your liking and you decide you'd like it to mop the kitchen. You stop the robot to switch out the proper components. Now you turn it back on, but you can't give it any instructions other than to go back to the charging dock. To think about before buying: - Space Shark recommends quite a bit of open space around the charging dock. Several feet to either side and in front. Understandably, there needs to be some space to allow the robot to line up with the dock, but this can be challenging in smaller homes. The dock is also a bit tall, making it difficult to hide under a console or side table. We have found that the extra space suggested on either side of the dock isn't nearly as necessary as the space directly in front. Our Shark is hidden behind our tv stand, which is angled in a corner. There's less than a foot of free space on either side and we have had no issues whatsoever. The challenge with it being tucked away though, is that emptying the dust bin requires us to slide the tv console out of the way.

Better Than Previous Robot But Still 'Meh'

I am a neat freak. If there is a cleaning gadget, I probably own it. I have multiple vacuums, all with different uses, as well as an entire collection of quick disposable dust/mop options. I have always been enamored with the *idea* of robot vacuums but have been continually disappointed. Unfortunately, the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop with XL HEPA Self-Empty Base and Matrix Clean Navigation (Whew! Say that 5 times fast), while better than any of my previous robot vacuums, it is still not good enough for me to justify the price/work. Wait, did I say that the robot was work? Isn't the robot supposed to lead you to a life of luxury where your house is spotless and you can eat bonbons all day? Yeah, no. The Shark AI Ultra (I named it Rosie), needs a lot of work to set up properly. It needs supervision it would seem from my testing, and whoo boy does this thing clog/need emptying and/or cleaning regularly (and I've only had it for a little over a week!). The whole kit was easy enough to set up. The robot is already put together, you just need to attach a single 'corner brush' (this is a problem in and of itself - more on this later). The base station is also all ready to go, just plug her in and place her on the robot/base station mat. Put the two together and let the robot charge up over night. While it is doing that, you can download the Shark app to control your wee cleaning beastie! The next day, I turned Rosie loose on the first floor of my house, about 1500 sq/ft, and let her find her way. I cleared the cat toys up and any stray cables that might throw her for a loop, but upon examination of the map that she recorded, she missed A LOT of places in my house! I didn't have the robot try again because I now really wanted to see how Rosie did with vacuuming. I set 'her' off to do her thing and went to sit and monitor the whole situation from the comfort of my easy chair. I was dismayed that within 10 minutes of setting out, I had to come and extricate her from the dreaded 'open corner of floor'. Wait, what? Yup, the little robot got caught, had a hiccup, program freeze, whatever just trying to round the corner on tile. I waited for quite a while assuming that the little robot would be able to back up, use its wheel lift ability, or just bully on through but after a minute of it going crazy, I felt sorry for it and gave it a nudge. I decided to NOT just let it do its thing while I sat (which is kind of the point of these things), but to instead follow it and make sure there weren't any other hang-ups. There weren't any other 'hang ups', but I did notice some things that I wasn't too happy about. My previous attempts with vacuum robots often had the robot get stuck under my furniture which has some pretty good clearance for many of the pieces but not all. Rosie doesn't have the problem of getting stuck, she has the problem of not even trying to go under the furniture she can make it under, or if she does go under, she doesn't clean under there and just makes a beeline to the other side! This was a big issue with the coffee table in the middle of the living room. There is a ton of room for this robot to go underneath, and I WANT it to clean the rug under there because it is a favorite sitting place for my cat and therefore is a repository of fur, litter, nails, and whiskers. I'm going to attach a photo to this review but I don't know if you will be able to make it out. You can see the treads go right under the table diagonally without stopping. All the other places it vacuumed were in nice tight rows (I'll post a picture of that as well). I also noticed that Rosie didn't go into some areas that she could easily maneuver in and cut corners around some furniture and appliances. On top of that, the robot has a 'corner brush' but it is only on one side. Therefore you would assume that the robot would pass by walls and corners with the brush side towards the wall. You COULD assume that, but you would be wrong. More than half the time, the brush was towards the open side AWAY from the wall/corner and sweeping nothing extra into the path of the vacuum. Perhaps the robot needs two brushes, or is programed to clean they way I would think it would? As for mopping, I only tried it once and was again less than impressed. I had spilled a bit of sauce from a meal on the tile floor and thought that it would make for a great test. So I filled up the reservoir with cleaning fluid, swapped out the modules and let Rosie go at it in the kitchen (which I had delineated via the app since the house is open concept and there really isn't a separator). At first I thought Rosie had done a decent job because the spill looked like it was gone and the mop pad had an obvious stain from the sauce, but later that evening my wife was walking barefoot in the kitchen and noticed that the floor was sticky there. Sure enough, upon closer inspection, there was still a sheen of dried sauce. So much for ultra-vibrations cleaning up dirt. One thing that I will say is cool is that I like how the robot will stop and head back to the base station when it is full up, the basestation will suck out all the nasties, and then the robot will resume its job. Doing the first floor of my house took two passes from the robot and it almost seemed like the robot split it pretty evenly. I don't know if that is programed in or if it just so happened that it filled up at the half way point. Once Rosie was done with the first vacuuming of the floor, I checked out the storage bin in the Base Station and was surprised how much the robot was able to pick up. While I did let things get a *bit* dirtier than normal, it was still pretty clean prior to turning Rosie loose. That little robot has a lot of suction for such a small device and that was having it set to 'medium' suction. That being said, you WILL NOT get '60 days' of hassle free cleaning from this robot unless you have a 250 sq/ft apartment with no pets and no windows/doors to let in dust. Also, after seeing how much was in the storage bin (which was absolutely filthy), I checked the two filter bays in the Base and the storage/filter for the robot. Just after one complete pass of the first floor, the filters were darn near clogged with the exception of the one just below the storage bin, which looked like it hadn't had any air pass over it. Maybe this was the problem. Perhaps there is something wrong with the Base Station air flow, but the Robot filter and the little wedge over it were clogged with dust and fibers. The main filter to the side of bin in the Base, which is a really weird short tube of filter in a big bowl of a bay, was brown and there was a ton of dust coating the side of that bay. Shouldn't more of that stuff end up in the bin and not stay on the device or in auxiliary areas of the system? I can see me having to clean out the base and the robot and that taking almost as much time as I 'saved' by having a robot vacuum instead of doing it myself. All in all I don't feel like the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 will end up saving me enough time and effort (especially when I still have to clean areas that the robot won't seem to go AND I have to babysit the thing), to justify its purchase. MAYBE if I had a smaller place with absolutely flat surfaces, and furniture that sat way high above the floor, then maybe it might be worth it, but then it also would be a breeze to clean myself and I wouldn't have even bothered to get this thing.

Only 2 things that kept it from 5 stars. First is the battery life is horrible and it takes hours for it to charge. Second is that it will not go under furniture that has plenty of clearance for the vacuum. It does do a great job cleaning and the empty feature is convenient. It is super quiet compared to the other two we had. It does a great job mopping. No streaks and cleans well. One thing I don't like are the flaps that partially cover the area where the filters are. Debris catches in those and you have too scrape it out. If those weren't there that would empty into the bin. Also, mop feature does not use the self empty. You must manually empty that. It does vacuum and mop at the same time and good back to the base to charge...... just won't empty. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with the price and performance.

This is the third robot vacuum we have owned and by far the best. It not only sweeps and vacuums but mops too!! And did an excellent job on my vinyl plank flooring. And it’s quiet enough my cat didn’t run and hide from it. Setup was very easy. Snap on the side brush, set the base, place the landing mat just under the front of it, place the robot up against the base and let it charge up. See instructions for details. Use the QR code to get the app, set up an account, link to your WiFi and you’re ready to go. If you already have a Shark account then just add device. Voice prompts and replies are easy to understand and helpful. You can name your Shark if you want to. You will need to let it map out where you want it to clean the first time you use it. The built in LIDAR navigation makes mapping the areas to be cleaned a breeze. Once the map shows on the app you can easily name your rooms and areas then set up no go and carpet zones. See app screen grab photos. You can have it clean only certain zones and add zones if need be. It will return to its base if it needs emptying as often as needed, then resume until it completes the job. The same is true if the battery gets too low and it needs to dock and recharge. With the “self-empty dust bin” attached, you have three cleaning options to choose from: Eco, Normal and Max. With the “vac & mop, 2 in 1 dust bun” attached, you can choose between Clean and Ultraclean. Depending on which you select will impact how long it takes, how many passes it makes and how clean it gets the floor. The dust bin in the base is easy to remove and empty. It doesn’t auto empty the dirt collection bin in the vacuum when you are using the “vac & mop” attachment. You’ll have to manually empty it. It has two small filters in the base, a pre-motor filter and a post motor filter. There is one in the vacuum attachment and one in the vac-mop attachment. As a vacuum it does an excellent job. I purposely let my vinyl plank floors get dirtier than usual just to see how good it would do and it did an excellent job every time I ran it. We have a little chihuahua and cat in our house. I used it 8 times over a few weeks to see how well it performed before writing my review. I used it in vac-mop mode twice and both times it did an excellent job. Better than I expected it to. I also ran it a few times in the bedrooms that have carpet and it did an excellent job in those rooms as well. However, I will be using it almost exclusively to keep the vinyl plank flooring clean and mopped. It includes two mop pads that are easy to remove, wash and replace. Also includes two side brushes and a 12oz bottle of Shark’s multi surface floor cleaner. You can link it to Alexa, Google Nest Hub as well. I had mixed results with Alexa. I told it to turn on the living room light and Maggie started to vacuum the floor. I ended up removing it from Alexa. Not tested with Google Nest Hub as I do not own any of their bases. Build quality looks and feels very good. It’s the quietest we’ve ever had compared to another Shark Robot vac and a Roomba. We own several other SharkNinja products and all have performed well for years and never failed. Highly Recommended

The Shark AI Robot Vacuum and Mop is a household asset, but not in all scenarios. It’s easy to get behind on home chores, but the “Shark” does a great job of allowing me to catch up and clean daily. Unfortunately, experience depends on the initial setup which can be a nuisance. For starters, setup is done through the Shark app which is very buggy. The app froze at least 3 times while attempting to setup different configurations and numerous times during regular usage The explore feature worked well in not navigating to intentionally blocked off areas. However, the robot ventured into unauthorized areas during sweeping and mopping despite me setting up restrictions. The No Mop zones weren’t honored even with me redoing the setup multiple times. All isn’t bad with the Shark. It did clean well and stayed within boundaries 75% of the time. Mopping performed decent and works best for small jobs. Disposal was a breeze and did effectively help me to save time and effort. The battery charges 4-5 hours, but holds enough charge for only 1 full cleaning cycle. Overall, I enjoyed using the Shark, but I will need go over some areas more than expected due problems with precision and cleaning boundaries/zones.

This is the best robot vacuum. It is even better than I could have envisioned it. It offers everything I would want in a robot vac. Setting it up is pretty quick. It has a hepa filter which is very helpful with our allergies. The children got a kick out of choosing how they wanted to name the vacuum. There’s an instruction booklet that provides just the basic of preparing the dock and charging the robot. I was surprised it didn’t include instructions for using it as a mop. But no worries, it also came with a 1-page double side cheat sheet to get you started quickly. That sheet also has a QR code which I used to download the app and finish setting it up. The app is great and easy to use. It tells you what’s next to do when setting it up and when you need to put in the mop part in. You definitely want the app, as the vacuum goes around the home and creates a map of you home. This way you can label rooms, areas that you don’t want the vacuum going into, and areas where you have carpet or rugs so the robot won’t go there during the mop part. You can then vacuum whole house, certain zones or areas and you can even spot clean a specific area. It is so great having this! What I love most about this is that not only can I vacuum but I can mop with the included mop attachment. Another great thing, which I was really excited about when researching this is that it self-empties when you use the vacuum. Remember though it doesn’t self-empty when using the mop part of it. But that was quick and easy to clean. And if you need to mop and the floor is dirty, I didn’t need to vacuum and then mop, I just used the mop feature and it actually moped while vacuuming. You can keep vacuuming for over a month before needing to empty, but mine might be sooner with such a full household. It’s very easy to empty. You can also choose your power level for cleaning, economy, regular and max. And with mop attachment, you can also choose your water flow level. I have a 2-level home so was curious how to make it work with both levels. Primarily, I am using this downstairs since that’s where we spend the most time and gets the dirtiest so I did the map of downstairs and labeled the zones and rooms. But I wanted to test it upstairs so while off, I just pick up the vacuum from the base and walked it upstairs. I put it down and pressed clean. I shut the doors I didn’t want it to go into, like the closet and laundry. It cleaned upstairs very nicely. So it’s great to know that I can still use it upstairs even though I can’t program it specifically for the rooms up there. And yes, it did notice the ledge of the steps that go downstairs and it stopped itself and clean all upstairs without falling. The children were watching with anticipation the first time it cleaned upstairs to make sure it didn’t fall downstairs. I wondered how well this would clean the corners around the home and the area under the kitchen sink that indents. And it did both as well as it could. The vacuum is low so it was able to reach that area. It did well around most of the corners but of course, it didn’t get into every corner perfectly since it’s a round-shaped vacuum. But it did pretty good for regular usage. I schedule it to run every 2 days for whole house vacuum, 2 days a week for moping and then use spot cleaning as needed. So this is a great time saver. I only used my regular vacuum once a week now, and that’s just cause I feel better getting in the tight corners and around the plugs and litter where I set as off limit for the robot vacuum. Kids and pets are great and can also be messy. Another thing I just love is that it gives an option to recharge and resume. So if the vacuum needs recharging in the middle of cleaning, it will go back to the base, charge itself and then come back and continue where it left off. Just amazing! The only improvement I can think of is one for notifications to also have an alarm or audio sound along with the notification section on the app. It does have a notification section so if any issues, you can check there to see what the issue is and how to clear it, like I got a notification that the fluid reservoir was detached because son really wanted to help and I forgot to double check before we pressed clean. I simply removed and inserted it and it worked. It was my only notification so far, so it’s possible that it was audible too and I just missed it. But if not, that would be a suggesting when app updates.

Some things are better not combo’d

This is my 3rd robot vacuum, but my first robot mop, and my first vacuum/mop combo. If you have your heart set on a single unit that does vacuuming and mopping, this may be a good choice for you. However, one of the main convenience factors of having a robot vacuum, particularly one with a large disposal canister, is the ability to set it up and forget about it, as it regularly cleans your house for you. My biggest problem with the combo device, is how impractical it is to switch out separate cleaning bins based on whether you are mopping or vacuuming. The mopping feature does also include a vacuum to pickup debris, but the dedicated vacuum mode has a separate attachment you use in place of the mop container. To me, this defeats the whole purpose of “set it and forget it”. Additionally, there’s nowhere to easily store the container you don’t actively have inserted into the robot, so you have to go fish the other container out of storage when you want to change modes. If there was something built into the base to store the other container, that would at least make it easier to locate and swap them as needed. I’ll probably just leave this unit in mop mode and using my other robot vacuum for the actual vacuuming. Aside from the practicality of a combo unity, I was not impressed with the built in sensors that normally prevent a robot from bumping into things like furniture, pets, toys, or kids. Compared to another model I’ve tested, it rammed into things fairly aggressively, and reminded me of how the technology in my 7 year old robot vacuum behaves. The mopping feature itself was very thorough, and the mixture of cleaning agent plus water dried very quickly on the floor. By the time the unit had finished mopping, in a 30 minute 1 room test I performed, 70% of the surface covered had already dried. I ran into an issue after first inserting the mop container, where the robot still only showed vacuum and not mop options in the app. I had to actually tell the robot to dock in order for it to realize that it had the mop container installed and provide different commands within the app. The app itself was fairly easy to use, though it did become unresponsive at one point while trying to edit rooms. I eventually was able to create and label rooms like kitchen and living room, and setup “carpet” areas so the mop knows to avoid them. Overall, the app was a 4/5 for usability and functionality. Another surprise, which was probably information available prior to receiving the product, is that the mop doesn’t empty into the large storage bin, so it had to be emptied separately every time, along with washing and cleaning the pad, which I had expected. As a whole, my recommendation would be to buy a separate robot mop and vacuum rather than this combo, but if you have your heart set on a combo unit, this does get the job done. I did appreciate not having to separately vacuum up crumbs before mopping though so there is some merit to having a combo unit.

This device has been on my wishlist for many years. I live in a split level home and robot vacuums still can’t climb stairs so they tend to be stuck on specific floors which made me resist the idea of getting one. It turns out that is okay here though since the 400 sq ft area that I have it taking care of which includes my kitchen is a good sized space for it to handle since it can vacuum about 100sq ft in 10 minutes and lasts about 30 min before needing to recharge. It would take a very long time to finish a cycle with a larger space to deal with. Packed in the box is the robot, the self empty dock, the mop attachment, and a starter bottle of mopping solution. Setting it up was incredibly simple, attach the two pieces of the parking plate to the emptying station, drop the bot on the charging point and download the shark app to your phone. Getting it attached to your wifi and account is also simple and similar to many other devices on the market these days using your phone/app to connect to it. Right out of the box it doesn’t have enough charge to get started so after it has the chance to do that you can send it on an exploration cycle where it uses it’s LiDAR sensors to detect and analyze the space it will be cleaning. You can see the map it creates and name rooms, set no-go zones for mopping so it doesn’t get carpet wet, as well as setup a schedule for what days and times it should set off to clean. I have 2 dogs who both shed a great deal so I have my bot clean every morning, and it does a great job. It’s very thorough and the space has never looked this clean so consistently before now. It knows from the initial exploration to avoid the stairs and as long as there aren’t any surprises on the floor like a drying cloth that fell down and became a trap for it the vacuum bot will take care of the space I have it taking care of in about 40 minutes during which it always has to take a charging break. Unless I want to switch it to mopping mode with the attachment I can leave it to its schedule and hardly have to think about it. When I have watched it work I am also very impressed with how gentle it is around my furniture and cabinets. It does not slam into things the way other bots I have seen do, rather slowing down and very slightly nudging around things to get all the corners and crevices. This keeps the bot from damaging itself or my things while it does it’s job. I have yet to have to empty out the dock in the week plus I have had it running daily which I also appreciate as it keeps everything very simple. I am so happy with the cleanliness of the rooms my robot vacuum takes care of for me, and how simple it is to use. It is quiet and thorough, and makes things easier for a busy family. I intend to get another one for one of the other floors in my house I like it so much. I absolutely recommend it.

Improving upon an already excellent device

After getting everything unboxed, I was initially underwhelmed. Straight away I noticed that there was only a single side brush on the base of the unit, yet two physical brushes were in the box. Now, if I didn't have a previous Shark vacuum, I may not have noticed (the older generation model has two side brushes on the base of the unit providing sweeping action on both the left and right side of the vacuum) but I quickly realized I was worrying for no reason. Then it started to dawn on me as I was continuing to unbox everything. By having a brush on both sides if brush 1 misses something the chances of brush 2 picking it up are slim to none - you have identical methods of cleaning going on. With the new AI Ultra 2-in-1 there is a "CleanEdge Technology" feature on the side with no brush that shoots puffs of air out as it goes to help push and clear hard to reach debris. When the unit spins around the brush does its thing, you are more than likely going to end up getting a more thorough cleaning. Aside from that I noticed the unit was a few inches taller in the very center, meaning I knew it would not go under some surfaces that the older model could. This, is unfortunately, not something that can be made up for by puffs of air or the like, unless you use some manual means or run another vacuum (we just run our old Shark in the specifics areas where there is furniture to get under) you are not going to get as deep of a clean on those hard-to-reach spots. Having said that, everything else is a welcome improvement. The aforementioned heigh difference is due to the improved scan/track system which provides more accurate scanning of rooms upon setup as well as being significantly quicker in not only scanning, but also reading the rooms and mapping everything. For this reason, I avoided getting too hung up on the fact it can't get under particular areas like the old one, a trade off worth doing for the extra accuracy and quicker turnaround time. The Self-Empty bin is the big new feature, in my opinion. Some might say the mop element, but for me it is the base. Knowing that you can dispatch your Shark and that it will keep going back to the base to empty itself so that it can complete the entire run is great peace of mind. In the past once the bin was full your Shark would simply head back to dock itself and wait for you to empty it. Didn't matter if it cleaned 10% of the area or 99%, it was done. With the Self-Empty bin, so long as some other error doesn't take place or it runs out of battery, 100% of the job will get done so long as you don't have a completely full Self-Empty bin. All the material says you can get up to 90 days before having to empty this, and I don't see why not. Having used ours for a week straight in a home with three dogs that all shed I would say our bin is about 3/8 full. So for us in such a pet dander heavy home to only have to empty the bin once per month is very welcome. For our older Shark I would usually have to empty the bin two or three times PER RUN. Again, a very VERY welcome addition to the product line. Back to the mopping. This is a very close second as far as the Self-Empty bin and being a welcome addition. Initially I wasn't sure how good of a job it was going to do, but that was nothing more than me applying my own previous experiences with various mops, both manual and electric. You are provided with a second bin and cleaning solution that is designed specifically for this aspect of the job. Add water to the bin up to the fill line and cleaning solution to the fill line for it, then make sure your mop pad is secure on the velcro/hook on the back of the bin, and you're ready to go. Results were great! The pad area itself oscillates ever so slightly to provide the scrubbing as the Shark scoots around. Water/cleaning solution application was extremely consistent in application and coverage. I noticed no dry spots or missed areas: wherever the vacuum went it mopped, scrubbed, and cleaned 100% of the intended location. Speaking of location, the app itself is where this all starts to come into play. You are going to want to let the vacuum go around and map everything out. This was barely a ten-minute process, but I also made sure to move chairs and a couple items that were easy enough to get out of the way to provide as much cleaning area as possible. Once the scan is done you can go through and allocate rooms, carpet areas, as well as mop zones. This allows you to schedule runs room by room, merge rooms together to create zones for areas that might be higher traffic (hallways, entry ways, etc) and then others that might not need as much attention. The entire process of opening the box to having a completely vacuumed and mopped home was a little over an hour on that first run. Now that everything it in place and I have all the features in the app squared away, the only thing that takes any time at all is swapping the vacuum bin out for the mop one and getting said mop bin set up and then cleaned out when you are done. But none of that is even remotely an issue as it takes 1-2 minutes tops. A full vacuum run and mop job takes ~35-40 minutes for our first level (~1600 sq ft minus furniture) which is entirely hardwood minus two rugs which I have assigned as no-go zones within the mop portion of the app. At the end of that time our floors look absolutely pristine. As a result, I highly recommend the AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop system for anyone looking to free up a little bit of time (and money if you are using a cleaning service) as this 2-in-1 is a worthy investment!
