Picture/Sound Quality: Superb
Battery Life: Acceptable
Gps: Not 100% accurate
Originally I wanted to get a Go Pro camera as my dash cam. The reasoning being that the quality would be superb and very easy to keep hidden. I changed my mind after reading online that the gps feature on the Garmin cameras had been used in court to throw out faulty red light tickets and to contest accidents where the perpetrator was blaming the victim for the crash/accidents by making sure that the video in the footage was geo-located at the site of the event.
After buying this Garmin Dash Cam I can easily say that it is very handy and brings me an ease of mind when it comes to making sure I have a safety net in case someone tries to blame me for their choices.
That being said the only reason that the device gets a 4 star is because the GPS isn't 100% on the dot. It was made more accurate after I updated the Dash cam software but it still needs work. Don't forget to get a 32 GB memory card. The videos it shoots are full 1080p at 60fps. You will need a lot of memory if you plan to store any videos for future use.

I tried a couple of the imported dash cams to save money and sent them back. If you want a dash cam that works do yourself a favor and get the Garmin. It's a little more expensive then the others but it is worth it if you truly want a dash cam that works. The video is crisp both day and night, snapshots are sharp and it just works without constant attention.

Have been using this item for a bit over a month. Overall, I'm satisfied with it considering I got a pretty good deal on it (was on sale and had some BB Rewards bucks to use toward the purchase), but there are pros and cons that potential buyers should be aware of:
PROS:
-decent video quality (1920x1080 res) that can capture license plates when mode is switched to capture still images
-adjusts fairly well to darkness / high contrast situations
-easy to mount
-quick and easy to calibrate
-small size and light weight allows it to be carried very easily
CONS
-automatically starts recording when turned on. This may sound like a good thing, but it gets annoying when something other than recording needs to be done
-prone to occasional freezing if left in coat pocket. This is because is the device's 'on' switch is quite sensitive and will inadvertently power up when someone goes to reach for his/her keys, sits down, etc. Easily remedied by holding the power button for about 10 seconds (appears to be a hard reset), but again, an annoyance that could have been avoided with a better design
-buttons are easy enough to use but interface lacks intuitiveness. Takes a little time to get familiar with usage.
-4GB micro SD card, which is included, will be used up quickly (about an hour, give or take a little) when shooting at 1920x1080 video mode. Advise users to purchase a card with significantly more memory, especially if driving for long durations
-internal battery drains quickly. Using the adapter (included) to plug into car's cigarette lighter becomes a necessity for even modest distances
Overall, decent if and only if the price is right. It does what it's supposed to do, but the designers and programmers should be tested for hard drugs...

I've been researching for a dash cam after watching a few videos of insurance fraud crashes and because there are crazy drivers. I looked all over and after reading reviews, this Garmin unit came out on top. It was easy to mount and memory card was a decent size (comes with 4GB but upgraded to a 32GB for 1080p recording). I've, unfortunately, had to use it already after getting backed into and it's great knowing that I have evidence of what happened. Great peace of mind. Only negative I think about this is the Garmin software for Mac. It does not recognize the camera when plugged in and it can be a little tricky to move the files to your computer and converting it to .mp4 format requires 3rd party software.

I got the GARMIN Dash Cam 20 for Christmas. It does record high quality .avi video files on to a Micro SD Card (4GB included). This product mounts on your windshield by suction cup. You can see a road video I did at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njFBhiVIyac.
PROS: High quality video, USB connection to PC (cable included), very compact, unique informitive "time stamp," and easy to use.
CONS: No pause and stop record functions. Starts recording when connected to your car. No function to turn off "time stamp."
OVERALL, it's a great product to record your trips. I would recommend using a 32GB Micro SD Card instead of the supplied 4 GB card.

I purchased as I was always curious about in-window dash cams. This was a very petite clean look camera! HD pictures and video. As soon as you turn it on it IMMEDIATELY starts to record I would've like more control on the start/stop. Comes with cigarette lighter accessory power or has a rechargeable battery inside. I used with a 32gb micro sd card and was able to travel from Virginia to Florida without having to change cards (13hr drive).

Camera operates very smoothly. Does and performs exactly how it should. I like that it comes with two different types of mounts. Only changes that would be nice would be longer cord so you can hide it along windshield and a bigger memory card. With that being said. I would recommend this product to anyone. I would also replace this product if it were to be lost or stolen. If you want a dash cam this should be your choice. This is my 3rd one and the others were cheap and very sub par to this one.
A:AnswerYes..... it records over the earliest recording. You can always protect any recording and it will not erase then. Each segment is 4 minutes long but there is no gaps in the time
A:AnswerIt will be fine - mine lives in car in the sun all the time - its not garaged. No trouble even when the outside temp was over 100 and the interior was way hotter than that.
A:AnswerThe Dash Cam 20 records as long as it is plugged into a power source. It features automatic Incident Detection (G-Sensor) with customizable sensitivity settings. When an incident – like hard braking or a collision – is detected, the current, last and next recordings are saved. This ensures you can see the whole incident from start to finish. ^DK
A:AnswerThere is not a button that can be pressed to change what angle or direction is being recorded. The Dash Cam 20 uses a swivel style mount on the windshield, so the camera could be turned to the side for this kind of application. ^DK
A:AnswerIt should be constantly pulled into a cigarette lighter in the vehicle. If you do take it off to take pictures of an accident or such, battery will last about 10-20 minutes
