QuestionIs it normal that I keep hearing the ventilation/motor noise after the timer if off? It usually stops after few seconds. And if so is it safe to open the door? It looks like a defect/unsafe as all microwaves we used would shut down Immediately.

- Answer Just got a Smooth Wave yesterday and popped corn (NordicWare microwave popcorn popper) in the evening. The first attempt didn't go so well, but fortunately I'd recalled someone mentioning having to place their popcorn popping bowl on something to elevate it a bit. I tried that and placed a pyrex pie plate, upside down, then the popping bowl on top of it. It did the trick.

QuestionCan you manually select a time and temperature of your choosing instead of using a preselected temp?

- Answer Yes. One knob changes the temperature from 10% to 100%. It even tells you if that temperature is considered reheat or soften or defrost as a guide. The other knob allows you to select how much time, which seems to be in 10 second increments for times over 1 minute, 5 second increments between 20 - 60 seconds, and 1 second increments for less than 20 seconds. Then just hit the start button. In addition, you can change the time and temperature on the fly! So, you entered 60 seconds at 50% power and hit the start button. Now you realize you wanted 60 seconds at 30% power. Just turn the knob down to 30% without stopping the microwave. I love this microwave!

QuestionI just purchased this model. Contrary to several reviews detailing experience with a popcorn button, there is no popcorn button and that is unfortunately confirmed by the pictures posted in the same reviews. Please confirm no such button - I will return

- Answer We have had the microwave for about a month and love it. Yes the popcorn setting is under the smart cook button. Press smart cook and then there will be a drop down menu. It is the first item in the list. Allow the curser to point at popcorn then press start to select popcorn and start again to start popping.

QuestionIs there no timer on the Breville smooth wave? Also, is there a way to keep the LCD clock illuminated full time?

- Answer The Breville® BMO850 Smooth Wave™ Microwave has a timer for the functions only, not a separate kitchen timer that can be used without a function being engaged. To extend the life of the LCD screen it is not designed to stay fully illuminated at all times.

QuestionI bought this microwave just over 2 years ago and it is DEAD. Runs but doesn’t heat, makes a bad burning plastic smell. Other microwaves have lasted so long I got rid of them because they were ugly. Has anyone else had this issue??
