• A:Answer Your UPS/BATTERY BACKUP beeps so that you are aware that power is either out or there is a possible UPS battery issue. Since you asked WHY DURING AN OUTAGE, the beep is reminding you to consider what you may need to do and HOW QUICKLY. When you purchased the unit, you may have noticed on the box that the UPS has specific performance limits. On the box in which your UPS came, you should note some estimates of battery runtimes. A higher WATTS UPS provides longer estimated runtimes than a lower WATTS UPS. BUT IN ADDITION TO THAT FACTOR, WHAT EQUIPMENT YOU HAVE PLUGGED INTO THE BATTERY/SURGE OUTLETS OF THE UPS REALLY DOES AFFECT THE RUNTIME. For example, if the only device you plugged in was a modem, you may have quite a long time. HOWEVER, if you plugged in a desktop home computer and your modem and your router into those battery/surge outlets, you may have FAR LESS time in which to act. TO ACT:: In addition to surge protection, a key reason for purchase of an UPS is to avoid a sudden loss of power to your devices. In some cases, a HARD DOWN, as it is sometimes referred to, can be catastrophic. THE BEEP SHOULD SAY TO THE USER: "YOU HAVE ABOUT x MINUTES to NORMALLY SHUT DOWN YOUR SYSTEMS AND POWER OFF YOUR DEVICES" IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE ONE PURPOSE FOR BUYING THE UPS IN THE FIRST PLACE. That beep is your money working for you. IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU KNOW HOW MUCH SAFETY TIME THAT YOU BOUGHT ONCE THE BEEP STARTS. So find the box or go online to your UPS manufacturer website and see how long your manufacturer estimates that you may have FOR YOUR EXACT MODEL. AND CONSERVATIVELY, you probably ought to think of only a bit more than HALF of their estimated runtime in which to protect your wallet. THAT IS WHY THE BATTERY IS BEEPING DURING AN OUTAGE, besides the battery itself is not being charged.

• A:Answer A laser printer or shredder will most likely overload a 650VA battery backup; however, you can plug these devices into the Non-Battery or Surge Only side. I still would not recommend it and just get a power strip unless you really need to shred papers in the dark when there is a power outage.

• A:Answer Field replaceable batteries mean the internal battery can be replaced while in the warranty period. While it can also be replaced outside of the warranty, it's not recommended as it is not cost effective for the customer and CyberPower does not have batteries available for sale on unit's with that listed. • A:Answer I think the power chair is to much for this unit it’s made for computers, printers, tv’s, WiFi. I think if you want something that will work you’ll have to look into an outside generator that powers on when your power goes out. Or a unit that has the capacity to handle more power. Of course that will be more expensive.

The software is called PowerPanel and can be downloaded from the Cyberpower website product page for the SX650U (https://www.cyberpowersystems.com/product/ups/pc-battery-backup/sx650u/). Once you connect the USB data port on the SX650U to your computer's USB port using the included USB cable the PowerPanel application will monitor the UPS and allow you to set various other options including shutting down the PC when the UPS switches to battery power, and emailing the user with alerts or notifications of UPS actions.

Q: QuestionI have a 625VA unit. The battery has gone dead. Am I wrong in thinking this unit will still work as a surge protector or not? Or am I further ahead replacing the battery or the total unit altogether, with one like this? Thank you

• A:Answer Half of it still worked (just the surge side) for me, useless in my opinion. I tried a new battery for $20 and the new battery failed because of the electronics inside were malfunctioning so why would I trust it to work for surge protection. Bought a new APC unit and I'm good now for another 5 years.

• A:Answer I don't think it will. With that much of a load it may only last a few minutes if it is all plugged in. Also, not all of the plugs have battery backup connected, only one side. The company website has an interactive tool to show about how long each UPS would last with X device(s) connected.

Q: QuestionHow do you mute the beep? I don't understand why the default setting is to have a beep. I use it for the frequent power outages in my neighborhood which sometimes happen at night. It is so frustrating to have this thing beep - thinking of returning it

• A:Answer Hello Janet, Thank you for your question. The audible alarm can be turned OFF or ON by quickly pressing the POWER button twice. The default setting is for the Alarm On. To turn the Alarm Off, quickly press the power button twice while the unit is powered on. You will hear two short beeps when the Alarm is turned off. To turn the Alarm back ON, quickly press the power button twice while the UPS is powered on. You will hear a single short beep when the Alarm is turned on. Please note that when the Alarm is turned off, there will be no audible notification when the UPS reaches a low battery state.
