A:AnswerYes, you may use the converter box in place. The only down side is that you will no longer be able to watch cable TV. You will be able to get up to about 44 channels of regular TV on these boxes.
Pro: no more fees
Con: no more cable
Depending on what TV you have, Flat screen v. the bulky older version, you may also need to buy an antenna.
If you own a flat screen, then you may not need a converter box. Just the antenna.
A:AnswerThis is made for analog TV's some of which not be that old. See article and video clip on connecting at: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/electronics-computers/tvs-services/digital-tv-converter/features/features-dtv-converter-boxes.htm
A:AnswerI was researching converter boxes on the Consumer Reports website and found that we do need at least an indoor antenna to get UHF and VHF signals. Rabbit ears won't do as they work only in VHF and digital channels operate mostly in UHF. See video clip on the htm page: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/electronics-computers/tvs-services/digital-tv-converter/features/features-dtv-converter-boxes.htm

A:AnswerAfter trying just about everything and looking through all the menus, I found this:
1. Open the Menu.
2. Go to the AV Settings.
3. Go to the Sound settings.
4. Check the :"Alternate Audio" checkbox.
Back out of the menus.
1. Go to a station that has SAP and adjust the volume. A window will pop up with the bar indicating how high or low the volume is. When you adjust the volume, it reads "Espaniol".
2. When the window is open, press the OK button on the remote control. This should toggle the language from "Espaniol" and "English". Select "English".
This should solve the issue.
A:AnswerThe Tablo only works with over the air signals. In our area, this includes ABC, CBS, CW, Fox, NBC, and PBS. Some of our local over the area stations includes feeds from HSN, QVC, and a weather service on subchannels. There are also an increasing array of over-the-air subchannels showing older TV and movies. If you want shows on cable channels (ie USA, TNT, ESPN, etc.) you'll still need FIOS or some other service or combination of services such as Netflix, Hulu, or rent episodes or seasons on Amazon, Googleplay, Vudu.
AND you'll still need internet service -- so you may want to keep just that from Verizon, or price this service from cable operators.
Oh, make sure you can get decent over the air signals with the size and location you can place your antenna. I would suggest getting just the antenna first and using it with a simple inexpensive device to be sure you can get the channels you want at various times of the day and night, and both with and without heavy cloud cover.
A:AnswerAn update to my previous answer: This tuner will work on new HD televisions but only puts out 480i resolution. That's a shame. I'm looking for one that will do 1080i.
A:AnswerDear customer, this converter will work to convert the signal from the coax to HDMI however, it is important that you keep in mind that this will only convert the existing signal but it will not upgrade the picture quality. Omar S. - Insignia Support.
