• A:Answer Do not connect this directly to a cable modem that does not have a built-in router! If you connect this to a stand-alone cable modem (with only one port), any additional devices or computers connected to it will be directly exposed to the internet with no firewall protection. In addition, some devices may not function depending on how many IP addresses your ISP will issue.

Q: QuestionI have one of these downstairs. I need one upstairs. Can i connect two of these together to add more landline connections upstairs? If so, what ports do i use -- port 8 on the old and port 8 on the new?

• A:Answer Yes you can connect two of these literally you can plug it into any port, this Netgear switch model is a plug and play switch layer 2, so there is no specific Uplink, but of course if you want to be organize, use port 1 to port 1 or port 8 and port 8 for your Uplink.
