Installing the Chamberlain MyQ Garage door controller was very easy. The 2 hardware components mounted without any problem. Syncing the unit to the wifi in my home took a couple of tries but it has been working well. With the smartphone app. downloaded to our I-phones we can control the garage door, check to see if it is up or down from where ever we are, and eliminate the nagging question, "Did I remember to close the garage when I left the house?" We also receive notifications on our phone letting us know whenever the garage door is opening or closing. Our existing remotes are also still usable and have not been made inoperable when I installed the Chamberlain. If you are considering purchasing one for yourself, you should check their website to see if your garage door opener is compatible with the MyQ.

We wanted to automate our house after we purchased and installed our Wink and WeMo connected light switches, after getting two Nest 3rd generation thermostats. Brought two of these Chamberlain MyQ Controllers so we could open up our two garage doors using our phone. We braced ourselves for a difficult install because our Internet router was pretty far from the garage area. We we pleasantly surprised how easy it was to hook into our Chamberlain made garage door opener and our router. Installed the two controllers and the two sensors in just under 30 minutes. Both controllers linked up easily using our iPhones. Unexpected advantage was the units will give both push notifications and emails when each of the garage doors are opened and closed with the time and date. Best yet, in case you rush out of the house, and can't remember if you closed the garage door, all you have to do is check the status using the MyQ app. The App can also link to your Nest system to monitor you heating and cooling, although the Nest app interface is more user friendly.
Tip: If you are installing two units for two separate garage doors, make sure you mount the MyQ units as far away from each other as possible. We didn't do that and when one door opens using the app, the other unit sounds the alarm.

The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because of the app. The set up was a breeze. I rent so this option being as simple as it is happens to be a great way to be secure and I dont have to "install" a piece of hardware that is semi-permanent. All the options are a breeze for setup. I have even had to factory default the product (problems with openers) and was still easy to set up again.
The notifications come through push and email which is great. I bought because of security suspicions of garage being open when I came home each day. I was able to find out that someone else in the neighbor hood somehow had their opener programmed for my door. In the process of figuring this out I was able to close the door immediately after it opened by the app and its notifications.
Back to the bad about this. The app for android was developed by a second year programmer at best. The app only works correctly if you keep the screen on and it was the first time you opened the app. If the screen shut off sometimes you can go back to the app and control the door but most you see that there is no door to be found. The only way to remedy the problem of a missing door on the app is to kill the app. Yep, if you dont exit the app (double tap back <--other commenter said there was no exit but is wrong) you have to kill it to use the app again.
I am in the habit of not exiting apps everytime I go to use another so this can be cumbersome but I dont mind a bit because the notifications are 100% accurate. In fact the app may be bad but I deprogrammed my garage door and this is the only one set to work.

I got the Chamberlain MyQ Garage Door controller because I sometimes forget to close the garage door or accidentally activate the garage remote that is on my key chain. Since I have a detached garage, I can't conveniently check if the garage door is closed. I've waken up in the morning and have found that the garage door was left open all night.
The MyQ Garage Door controller was easy to install once I was able to get a WiFi signal to my detached garage. I needed to get a WiFi extender. Once the signal was present, it was very easy to get it installed and operational with my app.
I set the alarm to notify me when the garage door opens. The app tells you how long the door was closed and you can open and close the garage door by tapping on the garage door that is displayed on the app. I did receive a notification in the middle of the day that my garage door opened. When I launched the app to check the door status, it said the garage door was closed, but it was only closed for a few minutes. I don't know if it was false signal or if the garage door really did open and then close. I'm going to install a smartcam in the garage that can automatically record "events". If I get another alarm from MyQ Garage that my door opened and I know no one is at home to open it, I can check if the garage really did open and close by itself.
So far, I am satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it.

I read a ton about this and other products before buying. What I liked about this solution is that unlike most others, it was a complete kit, no extra hubs or adapters needed. Also, this can integrate with Wink smart home hub if you wish. Installation is really simple, you don't need to be a handyman. The ability to have the system email you with rule-based options is great. Using IFTTT, I get a phone call in addition to the alert email.
I did have a slight issue where the unit was not working when my car was in the garage, only when it was empty. But following a suggestion from the support site, I simply slid it off the mount, rotated it 180deg and put it back, flawless ever since.
Simple to install, simple to use, and so far pretty reliable. If I had an Insteon hub or SmartThings hub, I'd get something different. But with Wink or with no hub, this is the winner. When on sale, it's easy to get this for under $100, so that makes it that much a better deal.

Overall, a good product, but still plenty of room for improvement.
Installation was stupid simple. A monkey could do it. Honestly. Getting it programmed to my Genie garage door opener was a bit more of a challenge. Not terrible, but you better be familiar with programming remotes too, because I lost all of mine....twice.
The app is down right simple to use, and that s good and bad. I wish it had more features that just up, down and notify when open too long. Would be great if it could automatically close the door at a specified time, or sound an alarm and automatically close the door if open too long. Mostly, I wish it was more family friendly....in other words, the ability to let more than one person control the door, without giving out a single shared username and password. Like I said...room for improvement.

My husband installed this in our garage in less than ten minutes. I really like being able to open my garage door from work in case somebody forgets their keys. I also like being able to see when it has been opened and I am not home. This product really has been a nice addition to our home.

I installed this product because I was having issues with my keypad entry for my garage door which the family used frequently. Installation was a breeze. The supporting app can be quirky sometimes when the server appears to time out. Not a big deal as it works more often than not. I like the idea of controlling the garage door remotely and being able to keep track of the comings and goings. Nice security measure.

I wish the MyQ Garage Door Controller existed years ago! I've had the product installed for about a month now and it's exactly what I wanted. There is no more driving back home or calling a neighbor to ensure the garage door is closed.
The product works well and has nice features. I've had no issues controlling the door via the app or the old remote control and the door responds to requests from the app within seconds. The status of the door in the app is even correct when I manually open or close the garage door without engaging the garage door opener's motor. There is a visual flashing light and beeping audio alarm to alert people in the garage before the door is closed via the app. Another nice perk is that you can customize alerts through the app so you can be notified on your phone when the door is opened or if it's been left open too long. You can even setup time frames for when you'd like to receive the alerts.
The physical installation of MyQ Wifi Hub and door sensor was very straight forward and took about 15 minutes. A first time do it yourselfer would have benefited from slightly more detailed printed instructions about things like when & how to use the included drywall anchors. But the overall installation was pretty easy.
The software portion of the installation wasn't too bad, but did have a couple hiccups. I was able to get the Wifi Hub connected to my home network & 8 year old Chamberlain garage door opener in about 15 minutes using the bluetooth configuration in the app. MyQ relies on the app to provide most of the instruction for configuration here, but the app did a decent job of walking me through the required steps. I can't remember exactly why, but it took me about a half dozen attempts to get the wifi hub fully connected to my home internet & registered to my new MyQ account. Pairing the Wifi Hub with the garage door opener was a snap.
I have been very please with my purchase of the MyQ Garage Door Controller and the added peace of mind has made this purchase worth every penny. I have no reservations in recommending this product.

This device is exactly what my wife and I were looking for. When we would leave the house, sometimes we had the doubts if we left the garage door open to our house. Not anymore with the MyQ device, is an easy setup with my iPhone to my WiFi and I can control from opening or closing the garage door from anywhere and get notifications when it opens and when it closes, also it tells you the amount of time it has been open or closed. GREAT PRODUCT!!

This thing is awesome.
Before buying I had few questions that I couldn't find the answer for on any of the reviews, I also called the MyQ company and was still not giving the answers I need, so I hope to answer the questions that others might have.
First off my garage is finished (dry wall and all) so I really did not want to mount the device, did not want to drill holes, so my question was does it have to be drilled, the answer is NO.
In fact I don't have mine in the garage, the company wants you to put in the garage for the flashing light and the alarm sound, but I use mine to just make sure it's closed when I'm away, so no need for the alarm in the first place, which leads me to the next question.
Does the alarm sound when you close the garage door with the car remote or the keypad or or or? answer is NO, again the alarm only sounds and the light comes on ONLY when you use your smart phone to or use the online app to close the door.
Alarm is loud but not as loud as some of the reviews make it out to be.
Last question I had is the range, I have a 3 car garage with 2 doors, problem is I have 2 car garage on one side of the house and the 3rd car garage is on the other side of the house, would it reach with just a 2nd sensor or I need to buy another hub? answer is it does reach.
That's another reason why I have the hub in the house to be in the center of both sensors, connects better to the WiFi network.
I'm an OCD person and needed to take pics of my garage door closed when I went out of town, now I can just check my app and make sure it's closed.
To upgrade my garage door opener was $450 each with installation, so for my setup it was $900, with this little hub and 2 sensors I was able to save $785 as I got it on sale from Best Buy.
Also the sensors I didn't want to drill in my garage doors, so what I did was use the velcro it came with and added some external tape to keep it in place.
Best of all, if we ever move, it is simple to take with me for the next house, unlike replacing the entire garage door opener.

I would have given it a 5 star, however I was remote and using it and even though I didn't try very many times it said I tried to many times to shut and then it wouldn't work, so garage door was left open with no one home to shut it, you then have to use the manual button and be there. Luckily my neighbor was home to help.

I have to say I had my doubts but after getting it installed, it works great! Install was probably the easiest wireless install I have ever done and I have done more than my fair share. The app is basic but works really well and the notifications are great.
I bought it for the fact that it works with my alarm system and offers alerts with it

This system installed the in minutes. If you garage door is like many, there is already an extra outlet for this unit to plug into. Plug it in, and follow the k structures to configure it with your smartphone and download the special app. You can set up alerts for garage open and/or close activities as well as alerts to tell you the the door has been opened for however # of minutes you define. Only con so far is you can't set it to automatically close the door.

I researched what I could when I was considering this item but there isnt much out there. This item is insanely easy to install, and works wonderfully with your phone. I didnt even mount it, I have it sitting on the side of the garage within eyesight of the garage door opener and its worked fine. The ap sends me push notifications and lets me know how long the garage door has been opened or closed, and I can control it from work. Never have to worry about whether or not we shut the garage door ever again. Giving friends and family access to the home is a plus as well. Buy it now.

Simple installation, which is a plus! Easy sync to my WiFi due to bluetooth discovery of wifi settings.
The Rules functions are great. I configured a rule to let me know when the garage door has been open an hour (or longer) so that I can go close it and control my energy costs.
Would recommend it, but it was pricey.

We were always worrying if we closed the garage door when we left our house and could never clearly remember doing it since it is an instinctive automatic motion. Since we made this purchase all we have to do is check our phone to know if it is open or shut. It has alerted us a few times that we have left the door open and has really come in handy since you can open and close the door with your phone.

This wireless garage door controller was easy to install and configure. Opens, closes and monitors our 5 year old Chamberlain garage door opener, but only monitors our older Overhead Door opener which was installed when the house was built in 1993. To be fair, the instructions say it will work with "most" openers made after 1993. Still worth the money.

Installed about 2 months ago. Very convenient. Installation was reasonable. Customer service was great.
Just reach for your phone and open the garage door.
The only annoyance is the warning beeps if using late at night.
