They did not install my smart thermostat because they wouldve need to access the roof where my ac unit is. It is not their fault the fault lies entirely with Angies List for not accepting that i knew where the ac unit was and arguing with me about it. They did refund the service fee i paid when scheduling this service.

Ecobee Smart Thermostat Installation

I first bought a LUX thermostat and did not know I would need a c wire for this to be completed, the tech said to have an electrician install a C-wire, so I decided to exchange the lux for the ecobee with the power extender, had another Geek Squad guy come by and he opened my furnace and said he could not connect it as my furnace is old, so instead of wasting more time with geek squad, I called an HVAC/ Air Conditioning service and the guy inspected my furnace which was fine but he replaced a part as it was old and installed the ecobee. The wires were right on top of the furnace so the geek squad Technician aparantly was never trained to install a C-wire extender on an older furnace. So, I would not recommend using them if you need to install a thermostat that requires a C-wire and you have an older furnace. If you have an update to date furnace than you will likely have the panel which is easier to install a C-wire extender. Thanks for trying Geek Squad but if my computer or TV has issues, than I'll call you.

Install NEST Thermostat

The second technician that came to get our Nest Thermostat was successful on getting it to work on my friend's Android phone. But did not know that passwords are case sensitive, thought we needed to change our WiFI password. It still does not work on my iPhone. The first technician that came out in June was only able to install it for manual use, which did work. He was unable to connect it to the WiFI.

Great Thermostat. Easy to use App and Web Site. This is the 2nd attempt at an installation. First one did not go well with the Geek Squad agent insisting that the thermostat was defective because it would only command the HVAC to blow hot air. Now it was installed correctly. Same problem at first, with it blowing hot air. Heat pump setting was not correct. Honeywell support walked us through the set up. Please be aware that if unit says it's cooling but is actually blowing hot air it's the heat pump setting.

The service tech was on time, and properly installed other devices on this service call. However, he was unable to install the smart thermostat in this condo, due to a wiring issue. Best Buy - after multiple attempts to reschedule - did refund the amount for installation.

Originally purchased an Ecobee and the person in-store didn’t ring out the install so when I went to chat with Best Buy to schedule it, they wanted to charge $120. This is the problem with running concurrent memberships when staffing is not fully trained on both. I tried to explain that I told the salesperson in-store that I wanted it installed under my membership so the cost would be waived but it wasn’t rang out properly. Returned it in-store. Re-purchased a second time and told the salesperson I have the membership that should include install and they tell me it’s likely best to order the thermostat so that the installer can bring it. Ok find, sounds like a good enough idea. Install get scheduled and I’m told they quote 7a-7p for all installs but the day before the install, I’ll get a call to narrow that window down. The night before the install (yesterday) - crickets. So around 9:30pm I chat with Best Buy to confirm the promised narrower time window and they have no new information to share but assure me someone will contact me soon. I get a call when the installer is on the way but the system doesn’t show a narrower time window on my end until after 10am - the install time window began at 9am - so the installer called me before I knew the time window. The installer shows up and no thermostat is in-hand. Turns out Best Buy decided it would be a better idea to ship it via FedEx who also loves a good time window and their time window is until 9pm today. Checking inventory in-store this was available in multiple nearby stores to the zip code provided (this was for an out of town home I was coordinating to have a family member at just for this install). Because of the option to ship the thermostat versus just taking it from a store’s stock and having the installer bring it, the whole installation needs to now be rescheduled. TLDR - Best Buy is trying to sell a membership and stresses the importance of it not being about the annual revenue but the relationship - but they can’t stop botching the benefits and their customer service/product knowledge is crashing down and making it consistently harder and harder to justify said memberships annual cost when the only real benefit is warranties that you likely won’t use within the [up to] two-year time period. At this point if the warranty is really that important to you, I would just buy it separate and in some cases (i.e. AppleCare on a Mac) it’s three years anyways and you don’t have to worry about Best Buy botching installs because you can also likely find someone to do the install for cheaper and with better reliability.

Let me say first that all my experiences with Geek Squad directly have been wonderful. No issues. However, for the install of my Ecobee Smart Thermostat, this was far from the case.
Geek Squad does not do this kind of installation but instead farms out to a 3rd party. The installer who came to install this and my Ring device was perhaps the worst I have ever seen. Did a very poor job on the Ring, and didn't even install the Ecobee. He basically told me to get a NEST instead. He was lazy, and did not know his products. While he was here, he actually took our his phone and googled the products to see how to install.
He told me my house was not wired properly for the Ecobee and that was it.
My wife and I printed out a copy of the full installations instructions for the Ecobeen and it showed exactly how to install. We took that back to Best Buy, and filed a complaint.
The company then sent out 2 other installers who were amazed at the lack of professionalism of the 1st one. They reinstalled the RING device perfectly, tested, made sure I understood all the options and how to set it, etc.
They then turned their attention to the Ecobee, They were amazed to see the majority of the product and parts didn't even look like they were removed from the box at all. They were able to set it up, test and show me all the options for it, and even provided some training on how to use it.
The two gentlemen who came to do the reinstall were wonderful. They empathized with me and just couldn't understand how the 1st person did what he did.
I suggested to them that they review their training procedures with the 1st person and all new hires and provide training updates when new versions of products come out, and to also train their staff (some who desperately need it) on their customer service skills.
I recommend the Geek Squad, but would think twice and carefully if they advise they are using a 3rd party installer.

He was professional, covered his face with a mask & asked if I had any questions. However, he did not seem familiar with the product, and did not clean up the drywall droppings left after he drilled holes in the drywall. I am in my 70's, that would have been nice.

Overall it was a good service. However, there is some issue with the thermostat which makes it go offline quite often.
There is no issue with my internet or the router as all other devices stay connected.
I got another appointment for the GeekSquad to come in again to check what is wrong after 3-4 tries with BestBuy.
Hope it gets fixed.
The 2nd appointment is 1 and half months later than the first appointment!!

One day my wife and I went to Best Buy to check out the Thermostat. We were excited that they had it on display and we started to mess around with it. We added it to list to make upgrade to our house. We fell In love with how easy we can control / access the thermostat on the go or when we on vacation or at work. Best purchase made not having to worry if we adjust the thermostat before leaving the house.

One thermostat, two techs, two hours, I still have my old thermostat installed, they could not get the nest thermostat to work.
The lead tech was supposed to void the charge. My Best Buy credit card bill just arrived and they did not void the charge.
My membership, which I’m going to cancel, was supposed to give me a great discount. My HVAC company successfully installed the thermostat, connected it to the mobile app, and charge me $35 less!
I will give the technician an A for effort, an F for success.

I admit I was somewhat concerned about having the Geek Squad install thermostats. I’ve installed basic thermostats myself, but we recently moved to a house with a propane furnace, two heat pumps and 5 thermostats. I thought maybe it should be done by our HVAC company. I was pleasantly surprised that our technician was extremely capable and did a great job with the installation. I probably could have done it myself but it would have taken all day. The Geek Squad did it in a couple hours, and the best part is that it was free with my TotalTech membership.

I brought a google thermostat in may got it install by The Greek squared in June and by August it stop working. They had a guy to come out and he took it off and left it with me to return to the store. Left a big hole in my wall where it was at. So i took it to the store they wouldn’t allow me return it which i was very surprised.
Then i got a call to set up and appointment to get a new replacement put in the guy said he was not able to get me appointment and would get it resolve and call me back. Well it’s been 2 weeks and I haven’t heard anything from them. I just want to return it and get something else or my money back . Please help me please
