Smart Thermostat installation

Great people
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The technician was knowledgeable and polite, and while the thermostat I had ordered had not been compatible with the wiring in my house, he took the time to explain why, and gave me some options for moving forward. (As an aside, I've had three sets of HVAC techs to the house over the years to replace the large equipment, and nobody could ever explain to me why they'd drilled all those holes in my plaster walls and left me with the thermostats they had -- and now I know: No C wire!) So, to make a long story short, great service, even though we were unable to complete the installation.

Wouldn’t allow me to return a item with defect
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I brought a google thermostat in may got it install by The Greek squared in June and by August it stop working. They had a guy to come out and he took it off and left it with me to return to the store. Left a big hole in my wall where it was at. So i took it to the store they wouldn’t allow me return it which i was very surprised. Then i got a call to set up and appointment to get a new replacement put in the guy said he was not able to get me appointment and would get it resolve and call me back. Well it’s been 2 weeks and I haven’t heard anything from them. I just want to return it and get something else or my money back . Please help me please

Successful install only after three visits.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The technicians who did the install were honest with us on the first visit, that this was a new product that they didn’t have any experience with. It turned out the first attempt was wired wrong, and it took to return visits to get the work done right. Now that it’s done, we love it.

The lead tech was supposed to void the charge. My Best Buy credit card bill just arrived and they did not void the charge. My membership, which I’m going to cancel, was supposed to give me a great discount. My HVAC company successfully installed the thermostat, connected it to the mobile app, and charge me $35 less! I will give the technician an A for effort, an F for success.

Mesh installation almost perfect

Greek Squad installed my thermostat quickly

He took the extra time to make sure the settings were right and he hooked it up to my internet so I can turn it on when I am headed home so the house is cool. It is also great if you forget and leave it on when you are on a trip and you can shut it off remotely. He throughly explained everything I needed to know about the unit. Great job by Brendt.

Complete remote thermostat control.

The new thermostat provides us with complete remote access to the temperature we desire from anywhere and clear digital readings both from our phones as well as on the wall. We got more than we expected!

GEEK SQUAD IS THE BEST

IT WAS WORTH IT TO GET IT INSTALLED BY EXPERTS AND THOSE GEEK SQUAD GUYS KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING... YES, YOU CAN TRUST THEM TO BE THE BEST!

Third Party Company=0 stars...Geek Squad=5 stars
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A one star isn’t a rating for the Geek Squad installation but rather the third party company that they contract with for installation on Nest Thermostat. In Illinois the Geek Squad has to have electrician so this installation and customer service to this company is not important! The trust appointment after purchase was two weeks out. Fine. I took an afternoon work to be there for the noon to 8 pm window. I get home and have a whiny voice mail on my home phone (I had asked they call my cell) about calling me all morning and with no answer and he covered 150 mile radius and wasn’t coming all the way down here and couldn’t make it and I’d have to reschedule. In my email I had a polite email that due to circumstances beyond they’re control that they couldn’t make it today but we’re able to reschedule me for Friday between 11:00-8:00. To be sure I didn’t miss them I took the whole day off work only to get home Thursday to a recorded voice message that my appointment had been canceled and to get online to reschedule. I got online and the first appointment was at the end on the month... 20 days away! I called the 800 number and talked to a very nice Geek Squad Team member who explained about the third party company. She tried repeatedly during our half an hour conversation to call this companies dispatch but their answering machine each time leaving a message but didn’t get a call back. She said looked like the cancellation originated at my store and I should talk with them. I went to the store and was waited on my another great Geek Team member who couldn’t get an answer with the third party company either. I explained that I had already paid for installation and if they’re company couldn’t do it I’d call a local electrician to install it and have them bill Best Buy. I understand jobs taking longer than scheduled and getting behind, but why cancel a customer repeatedly and put them at the end of the line? The young man, Nick, at out store explained that he was going to schedule us for the end of the month and the put in an expedited installation request. He was also going to talk to his supervisor. He took my number and promised a call back within 24 hours. He did indeed call back and explained that he hadn’t heard back from the third party company on his expedited request but his supervisor agreed that they could send a team member out to see what type of wiring our current thermostat had and if it was one they could install. We set up a noon to 8:00 pm window on Tuesday with notes that I could be off at 3:00 so please place us mid day or later in his day and to call my cell phone. I take off from work to be home by 3:00 only to have a message from the tech on my home phone saying he’d be at our home by 1:00 and another apologizing for missing us and leaving his cell number to call and reschedule. Which I immediately did only to get a voice mail message and a full mail box. But, his voice mail message left his supervisors number to call if he couldn’t be reached. I called the supervisor, got his voice mail and left a message. When the supervisor called me back he had already pulled up our order and had reviewed all the notes so he already knew our frustrations. He explained that he was rescheduling the appointment to Thursday but with adding it to his tech schedule he wanted to make sure he could work a little later if need be. He promised a call back as soon as he confirmed with his tech. He did indeed callback to confirm. Thursday afternoon the tech called my cell number to confirm his approximate arrival time. He arrive promptly checked out the wiring and was able to install our new thermostat. So Geek Squad=Five stars; third party company=Zero stars.

Nightmare Installation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased an Ecobee premium smart thermostat that advertises that it works with or without a common (C) wire. (Ecobee website: "The included Power Extender Kit allows for installation in most homes without a C wire."). I also purchased installation from Best Buy. However, Best Buy outsourced the installation to Installs, Inc., who then outsourced it to a third-party handyman. The lead time on the installation was 3 weeks and the handyman finally showed up (1 day late) and immediately said that my existing t'stat's control wiring was only 4 wires and that I didn't have a common wire and that he couldn't install the thermostat. When I explained that the t'stat was supposed to work with or without a C-wire, he said that he understood that, but that he wouldn't install the power extender kit (that allows it to work without a C-wire) in my split-system's indoor fan unit (apparently because of liability reasons). [In my opinion, if you buy a box with 8 components in it, the installation charge should cover all 8 items in the box. - But I digress.] I didn't argue with him, but said that I would hire an HVAC firm to install a C-wire and then call him to get him to come back and install the t'stat. So, 3 days later, the HVAC technician takes one look at my t'stat wiring and tells me, "You already have a C-wire. It's the blue wire tucked back in the middle". So, I had to pay the HVAC contractor a service charge to tell me that the handyman didn't know what he was doing to start with. I called Best Buy that day and rescheduled installation with a new installer. (Installation is another 2 weeks out). To be fair, the Best Buy customer service rep was top-notch and very understanding. And generally, I don't have a problem with the Geek Squad's services. But they need to vet their 3rd-party installers.

Geek Squad installed

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The agent installed the Nest thermostat however the blower fan does not cut off. Contact with Nest was unable to solve the problem. Everything works well except the blower fan won't cut off even when you turn the thermostat off itself. I will contact an HVAC technician to solve the issue. I have to admit, I would not have been able to install it either. I do plan to use the Geek Squad in the future on other installations.

Troubleshooting needed post installation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m giving this a 3 instead of 5 star rating because the tech who installed the thermostat had to return an hour later since the house was not cooling after installation. Living in Florida, the house was at an uncomfortable 87 degrees while we waited for him to return to correct what was not installed properly. Overall, I’m usually pleased with work from the geek squad.
