A:AnswerWhile I don’t game with the PCs the external drive is attached to, it quickly runs other documents and media with ease without having to download to the computer. Works just as well with my MacBook Pro as well as when I’m running a PC virtual machine on it.
A:AnswerHi Ross, there are few differences between the external desktop drives and external portable drives. The desktop drives are not for traveling comparative the portable drives can be carried anywhere easily. Drive like My Book comes with the external power adapter and portable drives uses the power from the USB port. So, if you want to use the drive anytime you can keep it on. For more information on external desktop drives please refer to the link or you can also visit our WD product page: http://products.wdc.com/library/AAG/ENG/4178-707230.pdf -Need Help? A:AnswerI think so. The ease with which you create the backup depends on what backup software you use. With 4 TB there's plenty of storage space. I have a 4 GB backup image on the drive along with other files and still have about 3 TB of space left. Just assign each backup image its own separate folder each with a unique name and you should be fine.
A:AnswerI don't think you even need to get into partitions but it depends on what backup software you use. I use one where the HDD backup image is store in a folder I created on the external drive. I can restore the image to the hard drive anytime it's needed.
A:AnswerThis drive comes formatted ExFat. It would not work with my Roku I had to reformat it NTFS. You should check the TIVO website to find out what formats are supported.
A:AnswerIf you are as technologically challenged as you say you are perhaps it would be best to buy the MY BOOK and have the GEEK SQUAD BACK UP YOUR FILES FOR YOU!!!
A:AnswerA Simple format will "delete" all the files. Remember this just removes pointer to the files on the disk, the files are really still there until written over by a file being saved into the same location. If you want to physically erase the data (overwrite the data so it is physically removed) you could use aftermarket software such as Partition Wizard or Acronis which can overwrite all the data multiple times making it very difficult for anyone to recover the data that was on it.
A:AnswerYes it actually comes out to be about 3.7T after all the software. The 2.0 vs 3.0 refers to the speed of the transfer cable. For most people, you won’t see a real difference.
A:AnswerI have three Dishnet DVR's, two VIP722K and a VIP612. Each have a WD Passport 2tb for additional storage and they have been in constant use for years. Powered direct from the USB port with no issues. Dish can't use more than a 2tb hard drive due to the file format they use, their software can't format a drive more than 2tb in my experience.
A:AnswerYeah, that should be fine, I usually stand it up next to my PC, but I occasionally also rest it on top of the PC on its side, and there's been no problem.
A:AnswerTypically it is a WD Blue 5400 rpm drive. I commonly take these apart and use them as internal drives due to the price difference of a bare drive. These take a little more work to open than the previous models, so make sure to YouTube the take apart instructions.
A:AnswerMy understanding is TIVO will work with a 3TB with no modifications but anything larger needs special software. You are better with a "green" drive that runs slower and cooler as it will greatly help the longevity. This is assuming you are using it internally. If you use it externally it will work but for cooling issues may not be the best choice.
A:AnswerThere are some basic compatibility issues that I do not think need to be stated. 32 bit operating systems and specifically Vista will only access a maximum of a 2 Tb drive. It is not just this drive specific. There would be a compatibility issue with any 4 Tb drive. If you need 4 Tb of total storage your best solution (other than replacing the computer so you would have an operating system that will continue to be supported) would be two 2 Tb external drives. While that would cause the need for files to be split up, it would not cost much more. It would cost less than replacing the computer.
A:AnswerHello Ks, Please be informed that the WD Book drive is designed and tested for Windows and Mac computers and not tested on Xbox Consoles. We recommend you to check our WD Black series for Playstation or for Xbox consoles and for gaming purpose. We suggest you to contact your host device to know more about the compatibility. -Need Help? A:AnswerI use a dongle. My ipad does not have a lightning connector (it is USB 3) so I am not sure if they make a lightning dongle with usb. Best Buy search revealed only headphones so I would say your ipad may not have the power requirement for USB data.
