If so, then yes, a separate router is required for this cable modem as it does not have a router built into it. It is a cable modem that is specifically meant to be used with Comcast’s Xfinity internet and voice services (internet telephone). This cable modem is on Comcast’s approved list for use on the Comcast Xfinity internet services. Yes, you would plug the router into the cable modem. Once setup, it will give you WiFi access to the internet. Instructions for setting up the router should be included with the router you buy.

Q: QuestionFor owners of this modem, does it ever drop your comcast internet, and you have to reboot it?

• A:Answer I have had my Netgear modem about one month, and not one drop with Xfinity have I experienced. Maybe you should ask Xfinity to check your line coming into where you are using the connection. Squirrels have been known to chew through those lines, diminishing bandwidth and/or causing signal loss and fluctuation.

Setup was easy and straight forward for both Internet and Voice, as long as the ISP provided the support on their side, automatically or manually. I cannot verify the 2.5 gbit connection as my router does not support it. My internet speed is up to 80% of my service consistently. Since internet speed could be limited by other external factors, I assumed the speed is acceptable. For Spectrum connection, one should consult the ISP compatible modem list.
