  • QuestionSo.. I haven’t used my AC in a few months . I just hooked it back up and turned it on and no air is coming out.. Nor is the fan even spinning. The only thing I hear is the compressor. What should I do?

    Asked by Cooling.

    • Answer It sounds like the motor is gone. It will most likely cost more money to repair than it will to buy a new one.

  • QuestionI bought this last summer and it was working well throughout the summer. Now when I tried to start using it this summer the air coming out is not cold anymore? I already took out and cleaned the filter, I read online that I might have to add Freon to it?

    Asked by John.

    • Answer Hello, Thank you so much for reaching out. We're terribly sorry to hear that your air conditioner is not cooling properly! We know that can be quite a hassle. We would recommend the following: make sure nothing is restricting air flow, check to see if cold air is escaping by checking for open furnace registers and cold air returns. Also if the room was already hot, it will take longer for the room to cool down. We do not recommend having customers replace the refrigerant in the air conditioner. If it needs to be replaced, please set an appointment with a service technician. You can schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-432-2737. Hope this helps! Stay well! Mike@GEA

  • QuestionWhat is the db on this unit. I need a quiet air conditioner

    Asked by Star.

    • Answer Look elsewhere, this is anything but quiet. Listed as 56db "adjusted", not sure what that means but it sounded very loud when I used it. Just got a u shaped ac and it's at 40ish db and it's much quieter than this unit since all the noise making components have more separation. This unit has very little insulation so you hear all the outside components.

  • QuestionWould it fit my 32 long window?

    Asked by Joe.

    • Answer This will fit a 32 inch window. As long as you mean inches here. Also, this was two years ago. Are you seriously still walking around aimlessly wondering if anyone will answer this question. I'm sorry they did this to you.

      Answered by TommyDynamite

  • QuestionI just want to confirm that this unit (without panels ) will fit through the outside opening of my window which is 17.5 inches. The inside ledge of my window is 22". Specs show the same width 16 7/8" for both the 5000 BTU and the 6000. Is that correct?

    Asked by Dee.

    • Answer I have the 6000BTU unit. I just measured it and it's closer to 16.5" not 16 7/8" without side panels installed. I suspect the 16 7/8" may refer to minimum width with panels retracted against the unit, but it is in my window so I didn't measure that.

  • QuestionHow the get my ac to stop leaking on my carpet

    Asked by Rw.

    • Answer You're supposed to install this with the unit tilted upwards a little so anything drains to the back and outside. Try adjusting it and see if that works. This should be in the installation instructions

  • QuestionDoes this unit have an outdoor air damper? How do I make sure outdoor air can't come into the house? I'm concerned about smoke in the air from CA wildfires.

    Asked by GreekGoddess.

    • Answer Hi GreekGoddess, thanks for reaching out! This unit does not have an outdoor air damper. The unit will pull air from the room, filter and cool it, and then blow it back into the room. The warm air will be expelled outdoors. The unit will not pull air from the outside and blow it into your room. We hope that this helps! Stay safe. -Michael

  • Questiondo i need a window bracket and is it included

    Asked by sylvie.

    • Answer Do you mean a support bracket? Mine did not come with one but it wasn't needed. It comes with an installation bar that attaches to your window. I had someone install mine for me so I can't explain exactly how it installs. All I know is he was able to install mine with everything that was included.

  • QuestionI have a pole barn with a clean room inside and want to keep temp at 70-72 how much condensate water does this unit produce?

    Asked by WyoSharpy.

    • Answer Hi WyoSharpy - Thanks for viewing GE! It is normal for the base pan in an air conditioner to fill with water. This water comes from condensate created as the air conditioner draws moisture from the indoor air. It also comes from collected rainwater. At some point, it may be full enough for water to drip out of the back of the unit. Window air conditioners should be installed with a slight tilt (about a 1/4") to the outside so this dripping is normal. Air conditioners are designed to evaporate some of this water. All GE room air conditioners have a "slinger ring" around the rear fan blade. The ring is designed to pick water up off the bottom of the pan and throw it against the condenser coils. This design feature helps improve the efficiency of the unit by reducing heat on the coils, and helps remove moisture from the pan. We hope this is helpful. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue

  • QuestionWater drop inside what I do?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Hi - Thanks for reaching out to us! We are sorry to hear water is leaking on the inside and glad to help! The unit may be installed so that it is tilted slightly into the room. It should be level or tilted slightly to the outside (about 1/4") so that any excess water will drip outside rather than leak into the room. Dirty filters can also cause moisture to collect and drip on the floor.
